The whole context of 1 Cor. 9 is Paul talking about his ministry in preaching the gospel and that he disciplines himself so that he doesn't get "disqualified" from being in the ministry.

1 Corinthians 9:16-27 (NASB)
[SUP]16 [/SUP] For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion; for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel.
[SUP]17 [/SUP] For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.
[SUP]18 [/SUP] What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.

[SUP]19 [/SUP] For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more.
[SUP]20 [/SUP] To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law;
[SUP]21 [/SUP] to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law.
[SUP]22 [/SUP] To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.
[SUP]23 [/SUP] I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.

[SUP]24 [/SUP] Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
[SUP]25 [/SUP] Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
[SUP]26 [/SUP] Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;
[SUP]27 [/SUP] but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I
myself will not be disqualified.

Paul is not saying that he is "qualifying" himself for salvation as in going to heaven because our Father has already "qualified"
us because of Christ and we are in Him.

Being in Him gives us redemption - the forgiveness of sins. Thank you Jesus!
Colossians 1:12-14 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

[SUP]13 [/SUP]
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,

[SUP]14 [/SUP] in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Christians are "in the Spirit" 24/7 because we are in Christ in our inner man -
the new creation which has been created in righteousness and holiness.

We have to have the horse before the cart -
the "horse" being Christ's righteousness -
not our own self-attempts at righteousness.
I recognize these verses, but what do we do with those verses that say ...
we must practice righteousness to be righteous (to be considered such by God)?

And verses such as this totally destroy you ...

Roman 8:13 "For if you live according to the flesh, you will die;
but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live."

There is therefore no more condemnation for those IN CHRIST.
God does NOT consider you to be "in Christ", if you are habitually sinning.
Many NT verses say people who are sinning do NOT have eternal life.
If you do NOT have eternal life, you certainly are NOT in Christ.

What verse are you referring to as far as doing righteous deeds makes us righteous? I know of these verses that speak the opposite of that.

Titus 3:4-7 (NASB)
[SUP]4[/SUP] But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,

[SUP]5 [/SUP] He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

[SUP]6 [/SUP] whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

[SUP]7 [/SUP] so that being justified by His gracewe would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Being justified by His grace =
declared righteous because of grace alone that is in Christ our Lord's work on the cross and resurrection..

Romans 8:13 is saying that if we live "according to the flesh" then we will die in this life. Take up shooting heroin in your arms today and you will see the reality of this verse in manifestation in your life.

Someday, Zach you will realize the value of Jesus sacrifice and you will throw yourself at His feet and beg forgiveness

Know what He'll say? I already did, beloved child.

Jesus said "If you love me, keep MY commandments.
What do you say about that?
Jesus repeats da blue 4 times in John 14.
Then, ditto about being His friend in John 15.

The grace-only OSAS folks obviously say
... dey will be welcomed into heaven ...
without loving Jesus and without being His friend.

I say, NO WAY, Jose!

This "loving Jesus and being His friend" business is tied in with
those NT verses about the absolute necessity of KNOWING Jesus
to be granted eternal life ... esp. John 10:26-28 and John 17:3.

You will find that the scriptures state we
have to bring forth fruit to remain in Christ.
Yes, but how much fruit?
How about some fruit when foist being born-again,
and then falling away with no more fruit forthtowith, i.e. thereafter?

Personally I love the verse that says "If you love, keep my commandments".

A very big factor in looking at scripture is the "lens" you use to view the scripture.

In the Old Covenant " you had to do or else"..If you do this..then I God will do that.." = conditional on the person performing

New Covenant =
Jesus has done it for you which empowers you to "do"

Let's take a look at a common scripture with these 2 mindsets.

Jesus said.." If you love Me, you will keep My commandments"

Old Covenant mindset = conditional on the person "doing"..

So they would read it this way.."IF you love Me you will keep My commandments"..
in their mind it's saying.."Keep My commandment and you will prove you love Me."

New Covenant mindset = it's a description of who you are in Christ.

They would see this "Jesus' love is in me so I keep His commandments"..it stems out of relationship and it is not conditional but descriptive of the believer.

1 John 4:18-19 (NASB)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

[SUP]19 [/SUP]
We love, because He first loved us.

Then there is more..lol..there seems to be more sometimes eh?..just what are His commandments anyway?..Be perfect as My Father in heaven is perfect?...can we possibly do that?..of course not..that is Moses 2.0

Ahhh..found His commandments in 1 John 3.

1 John 3:23 (NASB)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.

...the "lens" that we view scriptures greatly affects us. We try to mix the Old Covenant ( before the cross and resurrection ) with the New Covenant and we get a religious mess.

Religious traditions of men, philosophies of men, ..what we were told all our lives in church or in the world etc. ..all influence how we view scripture. Sometimes some of our "sacred cows" can get sacrificed and it's painful.

Colossians 2:8 (NASB)
[SUP]8[/SUP] See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.

Interpret them correctly!

Obediance does not produce Salvation.

HOWEVER,

Salvation is when the Holy Spirit pours GOD's Love into our hearts (Rom. 5:5), and that LOVE will produce Obedience.

John 14:15 (HCSB)
[SUP]15 [/SUP]If you love Me {SAVED}, you will keep My commands.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (HCSB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift
[SUP]9 [/SUP] not from works, so that no one can boast.

A gift must be received, before it is YOURS.

Romans 4:3-4 (HCSB)
[SUP]3 [/SUP] For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness.
[SUP]4 [/SUP] Now to the one who works, pay is not considered as a gift, but as something owed.

Your theology is flawed, and by thinking you are earning part of your Salvation, you forfeit the GIFT.

Think of it this way, SALVATION by GRACE is the HORSE that pulls the CART full of OBEDIENCE.

You are trying to put the CART ahead of the HORSE, thus your theology is doomed to fail.

AND how far do you fall for one little infraction, in your walk of earning your own Salvation?

James 2:10 (NIV)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

The whole context of 1 Cor. 9 is Paul talking about his ministry in preaching the gospel and that he disciplines himself so that he doesn't get "disqualified" from being in the ministry.
This is a very interesting idea. DISQUALIFIED from an eternal crown NOT ministry

No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
1 cor 9:27

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
1 Cor 9:24

So G7 believes Paul is saying he runs the race so as to be disqualified from the ministry ???

Look at verse 24. All runners run to get the prize. And our prize is a crown that will last
forever.

This is salvation, not ministry.

But G7 cannot accept that simple conclusion because Paul could never be disqualified
from salvation or even suggest the idea, because it would mean G7 is wrong, heretical
and not following God.

Is it really this easy to punch holes in his boat? I mean, talk about blindness !!!!!!

LENSES

I have read the bible from beginning to end. The Lord anoints us with the Holy Spirit
after we have repented, believed on Christ for the forgiveness of our sins and started to
walk in His ways.

No lenses, no special change from new testament to old, rather fulfillment and intimacy.
We are now in the Kingdom, the Kingdom has come to earth in His people.
The Holy Spirit communes with His people like never before, with spiritual gifts,
encouragements of love, a whole community giving and sharing.

The sign of these people is open hearts, being a light on a hill, taking insults and
giving blessings in return, knowing that Jesus did not resist the evil man, but submitted
to their evil intents and gave His life for us.

All you need to know this saviour Jesus is to love and listen to His words , and see what
He did.

But G7 sounds like a cultists, words mean something than they appear, you need to dismiss
this part and accept this other part only like this, forget the obvious understanding we have
the secret knowledge that only the wise "wink" can see.

We do not "work or win" for the prize of eternal life. That is an anti-Christ belief system. Christ is our life and what He has done on the cross and resurrection.

The preaching of Christ is a stumbling block to the Jews in Paul's time and it is today to the D.I.Y. self-righteousness/holiness mindsets that think they must "do things" to earn eternal life but it is only found in what Christ has done.

The context of 1 Cor 9 is definitely about preaching the gospel as verse 23 shows too s well as all the verses before it - despite works-based mindsets trying to say people are kicked out of Christ because they are "disqualified". It's foolishness.

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (NASB)
[SUP]24 [/SUP] Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

[SUP]25 [/SUP] Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, ( crown ) but we an imperishable.

There are many "crowns" talked about in scripture.

Here is Paul talking to the Philippians saying that they are his crown.

Philippians 4:1 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.

Paul said the same thing to the Thessalonians and he did talking about his ministry in preaching the gospel. People don't preach the gospel to " work" for salvation.

1 Thessalonians 2:19 (NASB)
[SUP]19 [/SUP] For who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?

Salvation is not a "prize". You can't win it. You can only freely receive it as the free gift of God in Christ Jesus that it is.........or not.

FNC - This shows you are not listening to what Paul is writing. He is talking about the prize,
the desire to train, to walk, to be qualified, to run the race, to obtain that for which we hope
for.

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Phil 3:12-14

Paul is talking about walking in righteousness, the goal of knowing Christ, to be
in His image, the ultimate position we can reach. And yes salvation is wrapped up
in it all.

How can one claim they are not trying to earn salvation abd bit teaching works, yet call it a prize (or a reward one earns for work done) amazing,, simply amazing.
