His name is Jewel Jones and he's only 21 years of age.

Growing up, Jones’ parents kept their son active in the community and church. Every week, they took him and his sister, Shaina, to volunteer at a Detroit nursing home.

“They’d not only cook but actually help feed some of the older individuals,” says his uncle Carlos Jennings, head deacon at Jones’ church. “All he knows is how to help others, so this state rep opportunity falls in line with the way he was raised.”

As a mere toddler, Elder Dr. Paul Turner Jr. of Spiritual Israel Church and Its Army in Detroit made Jewell a “junior deacon in training,” responsible for church maintenance and finances with senior deacons.

“I put him in a position of authority at age 2 because I saw so much in him as a little boy, and I saw the potential for leadership in him,” says Turner, one of Jones’ mentors.

Now a senior deacon, Jones remains an active member of the church that shaped him into a leader.

Im all for youth being active in church but at 2yrs old? I think not. And the Spiritual Israel Church? I really think not. Red flags everywhere with this.

I sincerely hope he's a good representative who's fair and resilient. Trying to keep a congregation moving is one thing....keeping an entire state moving is a whole other ballgame, and Michigan has been battling financially since I was in high school in Indiana (no I won't say how long ago that was but it was wayyyyyy long ago) . Keeping all our government in prayer always.

if i'm properly informed, Dearborn has the highest Muslim population of any city in MI, and possibly (percentage-wise) the nation.

that a young Christian was elected seems a miracle. :)

I pray God directs this young man towards integrity and righteousness. On another note, speaking of politicians, where's Hillary? Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, even slightly remotely in more than 25 years, has the H-bomb completely shut that fat gutter mouth of hers and remained out of the news spot light. Hmmm, you think maybe she's secretly talking to stein regarding the recounts. Couldn't be? Could it?

I read an article last week about Hillary prompting Stein's recount process. I don't know how accurate it was, but......?

Back to the op....I have seen quite a few young people take state office. A 17 year old girl was elected in NC last year I think it was.....we have some powerful youth right now....I hope they are as open to learning as they seem to be at leading.

I apologize for derailing this thread, but just real quick, Hillary is behind the entire recount. Don't let anyone fool you otherwise, she's paying stein, its that simple.

Now back to our OP.

The kid is either under qualified or over qualified for the position.

Now there's a fence comment. lol kidding aside.....he's young...that makes him over qualified for an elected govt. position in my opinion. Most in the government act childish, so a child in office might help make politicians act more like grownups? You know the whole "setting a good example" thinking? Hub and I used to stop arguing if the girls walked in, maybe the adults in office will do the same....wishful thinking I know lol ahhhh such is life.

Just to add a little more on the topic...

Here is a picture of nineteen year old Sam Oosterhoff being sworn in as a member of the Ontario legislature on November 30th.

He has declared he is "100 per cent pro life" and campaigned against the sex-ed curriculum.

He was also home schooled.

I find it wonderful for young adults like this to take a stand at such an age and actually have a chance at making a difference.

I'm surprised that good stories such as these don't seem to make headline news for some reason.

Im all for youth being active in church but at 2yrs old? I think not. And the Spiritual Israel Church? I really think not. Red flags everywhere with this.

Exactly.
Red flags everywhere.

Very weird church, looks like some kind of wacky cult... they do not believe in Christ.

The Spiritual Israel Church and it's Army
That is the actual, full name of the church.

BISHOP BOBBY DAVIS, KING OF ALL ISRAEL

They seem to have several affiliated congregations, with a Bishop.
Their Bishop, Bobby Davis, has the title of KING OF ALL ISRAEL.
The Spiritual Israel Church & Its Army
(I couldn't make this up, look at the very top of the page, just under the title.)

What we believe:
They DO NOT have a comprehensive STATEMENT OF FAITH on any of their websites.
But 2 of their 4 sites do give a brief list of "what we believe"

We believe in one God, who is the Father of all, who is above all, through all and in all of us. Because we all must be taught of God, we believe that in every generation, the God of Israel sends an enlightened man to teach His people so we can live a life pleasing to Him. ( St. John 6:45)
We believe that we, the children of Israel , are God's chosen people. As such, " Israel " is the spiritual name upon which God intended for us to be called.
We believe that all mankind, regardless of race, creed or color, are able to hear and embrace the Word of the God of Israel, extend their hand and surname themselves by the name of Israel and reap the many benefits that come from serving Him.
We believe that to serve God, we must love and serve one another because God is Love.
We believe that if we adhere to the spiritual principles that we are taught, we can live a life free from sin and continue to live in our earthly bodies.(Ezekiel 18:31-32; Proverbs 12:28)

NO CHRIST
- Nothing about Christ in their belief statements
- Nothing about Christ on any page of their websites
- NO CHRIST

Synopsis
1. They don't seem to believe in Christ, at all... so they aren't Christians
2. They seem to believe they are Israel and the Army of Israel... odd to say the least.
3. Their Bishop is called THE KING OF ALL ISRAEL
(I'm sure Benjamin Netanyahu will be surprised to hear they have a new king, not to mention a new army.)
4. They seem to keep their doctrines and beliefs well hidden, so they're probably very weird... often the mark of a cult.
The "beliefs" I listed above were all very short, and very vague. They had NO info about doctrine or detailed beliefs. They didn't even have teachings on line. No teachings or lessons on line! Just a lot of nothing. So whatever they really believe, they don't make it easy to find out.

Quick Note:

This guy is from Detroit, which has a very high Muslim population.

Well, this church is NOT Christian, and it sounds "similar" to some black militant churches that claim to be Israel... and seem to be more political than religious.

So, although these guys are not Muslims, they might fit in pretty well with certain Muslim groups... some of which are more political than religious.
