You obviously have not read my other posts..

And yes VW, this is a
'no brainer' question because it cannot happen? do you get the point..it cannot happen!!!!!

Anyhow just go back a few steps and read my other posts on the subject and you will have a more balanced view of what I am saying.. thank you.

I would certainly die for love.. but as for swapping my salvation...IT IS A >NO BRAINER< IT JUST WONT HAPPEN EVEN PAUL NEW THAT.

In Love

I don't know why I answer you. It does not make any difference that it cannot happen.

It would be good if you read all the post on this thread from myself. then you would not come to the wrong conclusion and secondly have you read Johns post?

And importantly, I am sure we would all agree with Paul (apostle) if we could

I think the problem with this question is that it inherently invokes insecurity in people. The full intention of God was that all humans would exist in the full security of His Love. We were created with a need for this security to live fruitful and prosperous lives here and in heaven. Does God want us to be willing to lay down our Earthly lives for the sake of another? Yes, definitely! But I am not so sure that He wants us to be pondering a question that seems to undermine someone's faith for a question that God isn't asking. Especially if their answer to the question is not yes.

Quite honestly I don't see a beneficial point to this question. I am not saying that I don't value you Sharp, just that I would be curious as to the reason for this post. Please don't take this as an attack. I just want to know where you are coming from.

Much Love,

Matthew

I was wanting to know whether, God's commands for brotherly love, counting others as more significant than ourselves, serve one another, etc. etc., would extend to sacrificing our eternal reward for the sake of another, in the event that this was possible. I know this can not happen, and I stated that this question was a hypothetical one.

I'm of the opinion that love for another person should not outweigh our desire to be with God. I think if we were to choose the salvation of another over ourselves, we would definitely be loving that person more than God. Would God want us to want anything more than Him?

I have been following the thread. I am dismayed that I am unable to express myself with the clarity that you can understand what I am saying.

If I could give up my relationship with Christ and the Father through Him that one I love might have that relationship, that I would be willing to do this because the love of God compels me with a deep ache and heartfelt distress for that one, lets me know that His love is my love. I know that my love is nothing like this, and that it would be extreme for me to even give up my life for another.

Paul felt such love for his brethren in the flesh, the children of Israel, that he would give up his relationship with the Father for them, if they would believe, and this statement shows the depth of his love for them. It does not matter that it is not possible, what matters is that he would.

Paul walked in the love of God by the Holy Spirit. To tell the truth, Jesus walked in the love of the Holy Spirit, and this is why He stated that the things we saw Him do, the very same things and even greater things we would do. The over-riding principle here is that what we do in this life is to be governed by the love of God in us by the Spirit. And we know what this love is like. It will pay any price for what it loves. It gave itself for us.

When we see God with our eyes and stand before Him in truth, we will not be asked about which laws we broke. We will be asked about how we loved this one or that one, and why we withheld the love of God from those He wanted to love through us.

Agreed. It would seem that the first commandment to Love God with all of our heart, mind, and strength takes precedence over the second commandment.

I believe that the second commandment to Love our neighbors as ourselves isn't possible without the first commandment as something active in our lives. So it wouldn't even be possible to have selfless Love for others without the Love relationship between you and God in the first place. Our relationship with God seems to be a prerequisite to us being capable of Loving others as He commanded.

I do not think we can anyway since salvation is God's gift through Jesus.
But what ever I can give to help another gain salvation, Im willing.
Now I just hope I wont have to eat my own words.
Smiles and God bless, pickles

I thought about this a little bit, but didnt read through the posts lest it effect my response. We are each responsible for our own salvation. As parents it is our resonsibility to enstill a love of the Lord in the hearts of our children. I immediately thought of my sons when i read this post. Given who the Lord is I dont see that us giving up our salvation would ensure the salvation to the one who we gave it up for. This would be in essence giving salvation to one who choose other than God and putting that person above the Lord. I cant put a person above the Lord. Sounds selfish? I dont know that it is. I will exhault the Lord and give all who know me the opportunity to know of my faith and to know my Lord that Christ will ensure their salvation. I just couldnt be confident enough to ensure anothers salvation as I am not the Lord. Bless you all.

I think the real question that some of us may face one day is, are you willing to die for one person to get saved?

I remember going to Mexico two weeks ago for Missions when everyone told me it was too dangerous and I could get killed. I am really glad I didn't listen to them because around 70 people got saved. We went to the worst part of town in Tijuana in the middle of the Red Light District and saw God do amazing things!

YES Machew & thank God for young brave missionaries such as yourself. Lotsa love to you!

My youngest son's friend Logan, age 10, had invited my son to his church and mid-week Kidz Meeting on several occasions, which my son gladly accepted each time. I could never get Nicholas interested in going to church with me so I was quite happy he was going with his best bud.

Last Wednesday, Logan was on his way over to our house to invite Nicholas to join him and his church group on some sort of mission. I'm not sure of the details.

On his way over...Logan was hit by a pickup truck.

He died the following Monday...April 5th...

Logan died doing the Lord's work.
His hope was that his friend, my son....would know Jesus.

Rest in Peace Logan...you dear sweet boy.

Logan is surely present with the Lord! this brought tears to my eyes. How long ago did this happen? (maybe you've spoken to this, i've yet to read all the posts) Is your son now in Christ? ahhh i'm excited to read on to see if more is posted about this.

For as long as I can remember; my mother has accused me of "putting other people ahead of myself." I guess she may be right since it seems like so many people whom I've called "friends" took advantage of my good nature.

To answer this question: I would have to say that IF someone elses salvation was in jeoperday and IF that person was a family member and very dear to me. Like my Father, Mother or one of my Brothers; I would without hesitation.

I know that the Lord would understand why I would ask such a thing of him. I don't know what his answer would be, but I would plead the case with everything I have for my family member's sake.

I guess Mom was right. I have always been like that.

In mho, I would not call that an accusation but an exhortation! Bless your heart! Although it is good to take care of you too!

Sharp, I dont think it is offensive to reflect upon these things. Thanks for this thread.

It is not offensive at all, but rather very important that we examine ourselves in this and other ways.

Paul wrote that we should examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith.

The real question asked here, as I understood it, was do we love even as Jesus has loved us. Salvation is friendship and fellowship with God. Jesus endured separation from God for us, and we cannot imagine what that must have been like for Him. I think that it would have seemed like an eternity. He did not sweat drops of blood for nothing.

In His perfect love,

Imoss, please understand that I was agreeing with you, and not being disagreeing.

vic

No. and surprise surprise, you don't have to.

You can't exchange your salvation to save someone else, why not just
preach Jesus to them, would have a much better result.

You think you can handle the Truth?

I have another interesting question.

Instead of you being in heaven forever and your loved one burning in hell forever, would you be willing to stay 100 years in hell, so your loved one could stay 100 years in heaven? Then swap places for 100 years again and so on for all eternity.. you'll be in hell 100 years while he's in heaven, then he'll be in hell again for a 100 years, while you'll be in heaven?

well enough of this hypothetical question because it will never happen anyway..

(NIV ver.)James5:19-20 'My brothers,if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this;Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.'

No brainer?

If you cannot love someone enough to lay down your eternal life for them, that they might know God, then how can you fulfill the commandment of Jesus?

The question should bring about in us a searching to see if we have the love of God as our love.

Greetings VW,

I disagree. It is our great hope of heaven that spurs men forth to good deeds. We love God so greatly for his unspeakable gift that we are driven forth to snatch others from the fire. Even Christ was spurred on by the hope set before Him:

Heb 12:
2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The love of Christ controls me. I did not say it was possible, but that if we do not love enough to do so, if it were possible, then how can we know the love of Jesus? He not only gave up His Majesty, His equality with God, but endured the humiliation of the death of the cross, and before that, separation from God His Father. We cannot even begin to imagine the depth and the width and length and the height and the fullness of His love for us. And He commands me, not ask mind you, but commands that I love you, with the exact same love as He has loved me with.

With His love, all things are possible.

i can't quote any biblical verse or what not to emphasise my point but I say YES!!!!

how could I go to heaven knowing I refused to trade up my place for a person who is not in eternal suffering?? to
be honest if I said no I would regret it the moment those words past my lips. I would rather suffer then sit there knowing some else is
in eternal pain and I could have done something

but thats just me :)

I think you'd probably see it differently if you experienced hell for about 5 minutes.

And I think that we all will come to a different understanding when we see Him with these eyes.
