Where is it written that it's ok for parents to lie to their children about Santa Claus and magical flying reindeer? I'm pretty sure that God has said that He hates ALL magic in His word and that we are for the most part never supposed to lie.

Like I said though, the pastor should have talked to the parents, not the children.
Unless of course, the children are ready to hear the truth... but that is left for the Holy Spirit to lead someone.
It's not a lie; it's fiction; period. You know, literature. It's not a sin and it's not counterintuitive to the Gospel. Just more pharisaic nonsense from a bunch of graceless legalists.

So I'm to believe that the God I worship is a black and white God with no in between....no character traits that allow for anything in between? Ok...I guess.
So much for God's grace, eh?
When it comes to God's truth, yes it's black and white.
When it comes to the application of God's truth then there are many ways to apply it. It doesn't change the absolute nature of His truth. Sure we are allowed character traits and individuality by His grace. No one is saying otherwise. Please stop characterizing in error what others say.

Since when did the story of Santa become lying rather than a fun, endearing fable that helps teach children about the joys of giving while encouraging good behavior? I guess we should skip Santa and start teaching three year olds what Cain did to Abel.
I know right....then skip right to the part where david knocked up his generals wife and then had him sent to the front line.....oh and lets not forget Rahab the prostitute. These kids need a dose of TRUTH!!! What other things can we possibly imagine to steal the innocence of children from them.
And how are any of these the same as telling young ones the true story of Christmas?

I learned about Jesus' birth young. Actually, I don't even remember not knowing about it.

I'm kinda baffled at the opposition. It's not like it's a story that's hard for kids to handle, and I don't see how it would take away their innocence...?? Help me out here.

My Parents telling me about Santa ruined my whole childhood guys.... It taught me that lying was okay, and it is okay to ride wild animals, so before I knew it I was at a low point in my life, living out in the wild, capturing deers, and bears, and elk, and riding them, and the worst part of all....I told them Santa was real....do you really want to ruin another child's life by telling them Santa is real?

No one is speaking of pharisaic legalism. What we say can be truth by God's grace.

So did I...but I still believed in Santa until I was old enough to figure it out.....it didn't hurt my feelings or my psyche at all when I realized or my friend told me or whatever way I found out........what messed me up was all the religious anchors of guilt that were placed on me just like people wanna do to their kids in their very thread.

Satan! Don't forget to teach them about that piece of garbage and the very real power he possesses over, oh, I don't know, liars!

You still haven't proved that God is black and white.

(At least that will stop bad behavior)

So you like to pose random hypothetical questions. What we're discussing is simply a lie that has gotten out of hand over the centuries. Will I lie to my children if I ever have children? I will try not to of course. If I do lie by accident, I will simply repent to the Lord and He will forgive me. What's your point here? You surely aren't helping your case.
Lie by accident? Get real. No such thing.

Yes and people are free to state their opinions and discuss them. I just wanted to add that way of thinking in, sometimes people read it and try to see things from different points of view and make up their mind with the pros and cons
Except you didn't really express your opinions as opinions.
You pretty much stated your opinions as expressions of FACT.

And they aren't fact.
They're just opinion.

We're dealing with an extremely subjective area... it's loaded with all manner of personal bias, family bias, cultural bias, theological baggage of all different kinds... it's just a whole area loaded with baggage like a mine field.

Wellnow that I think about it.. when ''santa'' came in and asked me if I was good.. the first thing I said was '' I was, my brother wasnt'' So I guess it kinda taught me to lie too.. lol
Sometimes small things make the biggest mess and I just wonder why not just avoid the avoidable and give your kids the presents yourself

There is only one Truth; on that we agree. And yet our brave little pastor targets children regarding Santa Clause rather than targeting Muslims about their demonic encyclopedia of lies and hate. Yeah, he's a real brave soul.

Maybe she'll plead that before God...."it was an accident"!
Okay, maybe not by accident, but sometimes they'll slip out such as white lies or unintended lies.
In either event, repenting to the Lord is all that is needed and He who is our Mediator and Advocate is good to forgive us. It doesn't change the fact that we repent when we lie and by God's grace do our best not to lie.

I forgot manipulation too! Lol
Well, I mean, Santa is ruining kids lives....
I speak from experience....
When I was 7 I was out in the woods capturing wild deers, and elk and bears, and riding them.... and the worst part..... I told them Santa was real....because that's what I thought was okay....
I have a friend who grew up to be a burglar because she thought it was okay to enter houses as long as it was through the chimney because of Santa.
Did you know that more than half of burglars confess to going into that "field" because Santa taught them they could?

I think the main point is being missed here.

Parents have a RIGHT to raise THEIR children the way THEY see fit! That's the HUGE problem I have with this guy. What if a muslim started shouting to your children "Jesus is not God and you must renounce Him!" while they were in line? If those parents want to tell their kids that santa will come and bring them toys that is THEIR business.

Years ago my sons were friends with an Indian boy who was Hindu. As much as I wanted to tell him that his religion was wrong, and he must have Jesus, I knew that a person's child was off limits. After he grew up that was a different story.

That's what the issue is here. A trampling of parental rights.
