I'm not sure who they have as a covering---before---Peter Wagner (Fuller Theological Seminary)---he just died recently...

Don't throw out the baby with the bath water----there are real things happening in prophetic ministry----got to find the real MCoy----if I was the devil---I would put so many weirdos and flakes out there----people would reject all prophetic ministry---God placed real prophets in the Church---along with Pastors, Teachers, Evangelists, and Apostles----we know how many flaky teachers are out there---we don't reject the ministry of teaching...

weirdos and flakes

....The other problem I see, linked to the first, is that in every other gift, people are encouraged to grow in it. With prophecy, people try to apply Old Testament tests to New Testament gifts as an all-or-nothing. I think we need to encourage potential prophets to submit what they hear to testing, that they may be refined and edified in how they hear the Lord, and learn not to embellish or aggrandize what they do hear. Where the gift is real, it will be proven real, and will be accompanied by good fruit.

are you saying modern prophets can be wrong?

I would think the same thing about something said like that----but if you know the person---their lifestyle---their friends---their prophetic history---that can change your perspective----I have seen Chuck Pierce---his friends---Dutch Sheets----Cindy Jacobs----Nigol Bigpond (Indian Chief)----and many others----they are the real deal...

O the usual suspects.

Personally, I see no particular use for it. All it seems to be today is just some nice words of encouragement. I don't think we have any Biblical basis to invent new prophecies.

Rather short sighted comment there Willie, considering that Christ has set them in the Church (along with Apostles, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers) during the whole of the age of Grace! 1Cor 12v28, Eph 4v7-16, Rev 11v3-6

Do you reckon you know better than the Trinity?

That's surprising. I thought you believed in speaking in tongues. But you don't believe in prophecy?I've had different experiences with prophecies. I've seen a lot in the way of personal prophecy that points out details in an individuals life and brings some really detailed encouragement that strengthens the person.

Paul wrote that a man is not supposed to cover his head. Besides, if a man wore a pastor on top of his head, he'd probably break his neck, especially is the size of some of the pastors they have in the Bible belt. That would be rough. Women couldn't handle it either. I suggest we refrain from wearing pastors and church celebrities on top of our heads. It's dangerous.

That's hilarious! :)

The Bible speaks of elders having oversight in the local assembly, but it doesn't use "covering" in the same sense. Your post highlights the errancy of that practice. A "board" can function in the same way, but a single person probably shouldn't.

I checked all the packs recently and they were not in there...

I visited them recently and they were not into self glory or exalting themselves---they have a wonderful ministry in the Dallas area...

are you saying modern prophets can be wrong?

Yes... where they embellish what God has spoken to them. They may have received a message from the Lord, but may add their own thoughts or try to interpret the word instead of just speaking it. The testing should be the same as in the OT (does the word come to fulfillment, and is it consistent with Scripture) but that there should be grace to allow a person to grow in the gifting. Even in the Old Testament, there were "schools of prophets"... I suspect something similar took place.

To clarify though, anyone, even someone through whom God has previously spoken a true prophetic message, can claim to speak for God where He has not spoken. This is where it gets fuzzy, because the speaker, and others, may claim that it is a prophecy when it is not. This muddies the water, and leads to "horoscope prophecy" or worse. This is why I don't like the concept of "office" for a prophet... I haven't seen the gift in operation in this manner. A ministry, yes; an office, no.

The gift of prophecy allows for mixing these gifts----- you can bring a prophecy---- a word of knowledge or wisdom can be mixed in..

If you want to study Prophecy then I suggest you read the Bible. There are about 1800+ of them and so far it has been 100% correct. Can you say that for the propheteers you speak of.... Stick with the Bible Prophecy, it is safer and a whole lot more accurate.

Why does it not bother people when they admit their prophets can ((and frequently do)) falsely prophesy?

Maybe we need a new word for whatever it is they are doing if they're not prophesying in the Biblical sense. You will notice that nowhere in the new testament is "prophesy" redefined, as it must be now if we are to accept these people who need to somehow learn to muddle through their own sayings by trial and error as prophets.

I rather think that if God should use me to add to His very own words, there's not going to be some % wrong in what He puts on my lips. He is able.

It would be much easier to swallow if they admit they are coming up with this stuff on their own. But when it's God told me this, God told me that, God says so and so, and then some of it is wrong, how should I believe they really know the voice of God?
