I've seen some of his sermons and watched some interviews he's done and he seems like a nice guy who wants people to succeed in life. I know some Christians have a negative attitude towards him and I don't really understand why.

I guess you could argue that he's more of a motivational speaker than a preacher. I can't think of any other reason why some Christians don't like him.

He doesn't seem to preach hate or fear enough for some people. They can't understand a God without those factors at the forefront.

I think he is just what total strangers to Christianity need. However, I also feel that is about as far as his calling goes. He seems to be a necessary "first step" for many people. But everyone needs to go far beyond the little he preaches.

False prophet, I don't recall once he preached about the importance of repentance & consequences of living in sin. He even admitted homosexuals attend his church yet gives no sermons about what God feels about that livestyle so their souls can be saved. Another pastor spoke about Joels book "Your best life now" and said to the effect "The only way you're living your best life now is if you're going to hell."

uh...I'm pretty sure Osteen has never referred to himself as any sort of prophet

and I am also pretty sure that Jesus said that if someone spreads the word about Him, that he is not an enemy

you know, there was a time I might have joined you in stating what you said, but reflecting more on what scripture states about it all, I am pretty sure God can sift the wheat just fine without me...

Do you think Joel believes being homosexual is a sin or not a sin?

He says on various interviews it's a sin but i haven't heard him tell that to his church members. Plus whenever he discusses topics like it he comes across as ashamed of preaching gods word. In which Jesus tells us blessed are those who aren't offended of him. Joel always seem to try to present himself as a friend of the world. Whenever sin & hell is mentioned he says he don't like talking about it.

I give he is both a motivational speaker and preacher. He's not a Christian, yet he pretends to preach the gospel. Hard to preach what you don't know. What bothers me is the amount of people who think what he is preaching is the gospel, believe it, and then think they are Christians and saved, because they trust in Olsteen.

There are alot of those nutjobs around the world which are pretty obvious. I'm more concerned about the subtle ones who creep into the church tickling peoples ears even the lost into a false salvation.

Osteen isn't creeping anywhere...he's pretty much 'out there'

see, part of shepherding a flock...pastor/congregation...is to keep out the wolves

people often run to and fro because they do not have good food or water where they are pastured

so we get a two fold problem...the end result would not continue to exist without the first ... dead churches

people also want encouragement once in a while too you know...not always pass the offering plate and God bless as we leave exactly one hour after the service started

I admit I've only listened to bits and pieces of any of his talks, but I always get the feeling I'm listening to a new-age, feel good kind of "preacher".

That's just the vibe I get, so I can't really judge what his theology is.... nothing wrong with talking about the benefits of positive thinking... but like Willie says.... a Christian needs to get way beyond that simple "have a nice day" philosophy..

He flip flops depending on the situation. Pro gay marriage, against it, pro..
He has a few good messages but mainly hes all ''happy love'' and prosperity gospel. And besides that, I cant even see him without everything in me just going against him.. cant stand him
imo

................................................Why?

I had a coworker ask me one time did I like Joel Osteen. I almost said no only from what I heard and saw a few minutes of his sermons flipping through the tv channels. So I said I didn't know because I really didn't listen or knew the guy. So this woman let me borrow one of his books. I gave him a chance and read the book. It was very motivational but I just have a issue with trusting somebody that has that big of a church and lives in a huge house calling themselves a preacher. To me having a huge church with all them people makes me wonder does he really speak on the hard topics. No matter what my Bible and small town preacher is all I need. I have the truth in hand to filter anybody's words through it. After all we can all learn from anybody as long as it's filtered to line up with the word of God. Did his book motivate me? Yes but his book didn't work for me. Basically his book was about if you believe God can heal and do all things. Saying for me to command my back problems to be healed and they would be. In Jesus name.

Maybe I just didn't have enough faith but the book motivates and only left me wondering was my faith not strong enough for Jesus to heal me. So I had my first real opinion of him and like I said seems to be good at motivating.
