Re: Polygamy -- continuation of older thread.

I am having trouble following you. Where did you get the idea that there is any "Half" of anybody? There is only unity. Marriage is intended to last a lifetime.

I am not changing anything. I am not the one adding to God's Word.
If you will turn to Genesis 2 you find that Adam was one person alone. God wanted a helper for him as his complement. A part of Adam (a rib) was used to create a woman helper. Now there were two. Those two were united in marriage, and God said they became one. I called it half's coming together, call it anything you like. Two parts, one man and one woman became one in marriage. It is complete. I don't see how this can be the way God created and still it also be that one man and two women can make one.

Two Whole people, not Half of anybody, making One United Family. Nice try!

Re: Polygamy -- continuation of older thread.

So, your wife has a good thing(you)- and therefore will not want another man. Then, logically that means you must not think you have a good thing (your wife)- and therefore you want more women?
Just one, but not until God reveals to her what He has revealed to me. It is not necessary for me to air out our dirty laundry with regard to what has gone on in my marriage. I have my reasons, and that is all anybody needs to know.

The point is, there is no Biblical justification for this form of legalism that emanates from the Roman Catholic Church, whether I myself want a second wife, or if I am simply approaching this from a purely theoretical point of view.

I have no intention of ever becoming a bishop.

Re: Polygamy -- continuation of older thread.

If you read your bible, you'd see this is taught IN the bible.
All polygamous relationships in the bible end in families that are dysfunctional and disastrous.
The king was specifically told NOT to have multiple wives... it's in the bible.
Not true. I have already pointed out several examples of non-dysfunctional polygamous families in the Bible.

It's not MY fault if YOU can't read.
Who says I can't read? I have read the Bible from cover to cover.

If you want to do the OPPOSITE of what God shows us in Genesis, and what God says and shows all through scripture... go ahead.
I have no desire to do anything that is the opposite of what God shows us all through Scripture. I am quite happy with what God allows.

You are free to be as harmful to yourself as you like.
I have no desire to do anything harmful to myself either.

I never said it was.

However, you don't get to back everybody down just because you're loud.
If I have backed anybody down, it is because they have failed to point out where the Bible supports the legalism they wish to impose on everybody else.

Re: Polygamy -- continuation of older thread.

Are we not priests and kings in God thanks to Jesus?
Paul never made that requirement of priests, and I don't believe the Bible indicates that we are Kings.

Swans only have 1 mate. I believe penguins are also the same. It's not in the Bible but aren't they amazing? How can you be loyal equally to several wives?
It appears you are admitting that you have no Biblical justification for your claim. You remain loyal to your wives by remaining with them through thick and thin; by never divorcing any of them.

Re: Polygamy -- continuation of older thread.

Still the requirement is only for the leaders of the church.
If we are priests and kings in God thanks to Jesus, then are not we the leaders of the Church?

Re: Polygamy -- continuation of older thread.

Hi Galatea: In answer to your question, yes polygamy is only for men in the bible. For myself, I can't imagine why any man would want more then one woman unless there was a shortage of men and it was simply to have children. There is a place in the bible where it says that a time is coming when seven women will ask the same man to marry them so they can have children(obvious shortage of men). Polygamy was never called a sin in the bible and it is mistake to call it a sin, however I don't think it would ever be popular unless there was a shortage of men for the simple reason that most men want to be in a love relationship with one woman...not a whole group of women.
Very well said. Unfortunately, too many people including our brothers and sisters in Christ, fall for the Arugmentum ad Populum logical fallacy.

Poor logic. Along the lines of Judas hung himself, go and do thou likewise.

Re: Polygamy -- continuation of older thread.

I edited to elaborate.
I don't understand your logic on why we should hang ourselves like Judas the betrayer.

Can you elaborate on why you think it is poor logic that if we are priests and kings in God thanks to Jesus, why we are not the leaders of the Church?

That is not my logic; it is an illustration of what you get when you take disjointed passages of Scripture, as you have done here, and try to bolster false teachings with it. Paul spoke of specific leaders of the church, and priests and kings were not among that group.
