It is often taken to be Abrahams faith being reckoned as righteousness.
Abraham was justified by works in respect to the faith of Christ that worked in Him, it provided the grace. Having the faith of Christ in respect to Abraham would be to blaspheme the name we are called by. We do not attribute Christ's faith to persons.
Was not Abraham our father
justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?am 2:21
See how Christ’s faith worked with his work and by that work of Christ’s, faith was made perfect/complete.The same applies to Rehab.
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and
it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?For as the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith “without works” is dead also.
It was the faith of Christ that worked in Abraham to both will and do His good pleasure as an imputed righteousness.
When I learnt imputed righteousness of Christ is an invented theological term, it settled for me another issue, that our faith is reconned as righteousness not our walk.
Now through Jesus's righteousness sacrificed on the cross we gain forgiveness of past sins, washed clean and purified, so that we can walk blamelessly before the King.
All sins, not a downpayment. He is the lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world .Any sin after that fits His righteousness. No man could be found with a righteousness of themselves.
The problem is without imputed righteousness surely one sin and we have lost salvation.
Without Christ’s righteousness of faith a person has no salvation. But if salvation or righteousness is actually founded on faith, then this is the grace covering while we resolve our sinful issues through repentance and confession.
We are saved by His work of faith ...the one source grace(unmerited favor)
Now if we do not resolve them over time, our faith will wane and finally fail and we will fall away.
Every time we deny Christ in unbelief(no faith) we have an advocate to call us back . He cannot deny he paid the wage as a free gift to a believer.
It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:If we suffer, we shall also reign with him:
if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we
believe not, yet
he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.2Ti 2:11
Unlike the group in Hebrews 6 that offers dead works. Every time they sin they crucify Christ over and over subjecting Him to public shame as if once was not enough to pay the
eternal wage of sin. Better things accompany salvation the redemption of our souls
Now for most this is so bad and terrible, the idea of falling away it is unbelief to even say it is possible, so you definately must not know Christ
.
If he did not turn us so that we then can repent(be comforted) then a person does not know Christ.
So this is a different faith structure within the same theology, but a different take on almost everything, even involving reinterpreting what repentance actually is.
Repentance is a work of God, only believers repent after God turns us.
