When you have a lot of rep points, does that mean you are posting meaningful stuff, or does it mean you are telling people what they want to hear?
wouldn't it be great if they were always the same?
sigh.

It is sad to see it's about numbers for people. Members can write any number of posts all day, every day which are totally meaningless. If they have a few followers and the need for attention via endless posts because they don't otherwise fill their time with anything substantial, anyone in this position can receive aforementioned 'points'. For me, it is about content. If someone can take something away from what I've said that's valuable and meaningful to their life, then that's the most important thing.
Hello,
How about a calculation of the number of posts divided by the rep points, or vise versa? This will give a number to how meaningful a person's posts are to others. For instance, if someone has only a few posts but with high rep point, his posts will have more value than someone who has low rep points but a high post count. This could help people take note of people they might want to follow.
Thank you.

again, just curious, but for whom is it about numbers?
Now this is a good question.
PS to all: The "reputation" shown is rep power. That is; that person's ability to give rep to others.
so if someone has a high rep power, their reps give more rep points than the rep of someone with less rep power.
This is such an apt description of the forums and a beautiful piece of wisdom to follow.
Something else that occurs to me is that if you want to have a high rep points to posts ration, you need to stay off the New Members Forum, because you'll never get rep points over there.
I try to welcome everyone who posts on the New Members Forum. Can't remember ever getting a rep point for it.Or...you welcome people because you want to, not because there's a reward.
