this is why I asked the question.... If we cannot agree on what a "pastor" is, then how can we discuss it? I agree with your understanding of the word..
Unfortunately, MANY people think a "pastor" is a preacher, who is the de facto "leader" of a church. Both of which are scripturally wrong.
I believe women have many roles as Christians.. "teacher" is one of them. I think women are allowed to teach in individual type settings, or even in a small group type of setting. We have scriptural examples of this, with Priscilla. Other women are mentioned as well.
I don't even have much of a problem with a woman addressing the assembly, if it is a specific topic she is a sort of "subject matter expert" in... which is a bit difficult to define, I suppose....
For example, in my younger years, we had a woman social worker speak in our assembly about adoption and ministering to un-married teen mothers. She was unquestionably the most qualified person in our area on that subject, and our eldership asked her to speak. She did so, but she insisted on wearing a hat as a head covering....
I do not, however, see any evidence that women were put in the role of elder (overseer, pastor, bishop, shepherd) I see scripture as being specific about that role being reserved for men.
I believe if there is a discussion going on in the assembly, then women should be able to participate just like the men do. I just don't see any scriptural evidence that points to a woman being the full time teacher/preacher
of the assembly....
These are just my thoughts on the subject... I am certainly open to being convinced otherwise, scripturally.. I happen to still be learning, I hope.
