James 2

24 [/SUP]You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

The bible is the most beautiful book in the world and at the same time - the most dangerous book in the hands of a religious belief system in all it's forms.

Here is a scripture that says that if anyone who has ever sinned against God will be blotted out of the book. This means that all of us have been blotted out of God's book for who has not ever sinned? No one.

Exodus 32:33 (NASB)
[SUP]33 [/SUP] The LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.

This is a true statement but it is not the ultimate statement of truth because what Christ did on the cross and resurrection trumps this truth.

Everything in the bible is truly stated but not everything is a statement of ultimate truth.

All scripture must be filtered through the finished work of the Lord Jesus on the cross and resurrection or we end up with a works-based/works-righteousness belief system that is actually denying the Lord Jesus Himself and all that He has already done.

We are as reliant on the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ in the scriptures to us as Mary was reliant on the Holy Spirit to conceive Jesus in her womb.

Jesus did not lie to the ruler who asked the question (Luke 18v20).
Jesus also did not lie when he replied "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God" to those who questioned "who then can be saved":

Luke 18:

22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?

27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

Exodus 32
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Then Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord, that He may bestow on you a blessing this day, for every man has opposed his son and his brother.” [SUP]30 [/SUP]Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” [SUP]31 [/SUP]Then Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have made for themselves a god of gold! [SUP]32 [/SUP]Yet now, if You will forgive their sin—but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.”
[SUP]33 [/SUP]And the Lord said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. [SUP]34 [/SUP]Now therefore, go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, My Angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I visit for punishment, I will visit punishment upon them for their sin.”

So as we can see, the above scripture is ABSOLUTE TRUTH. For God is referring to those who built the Golden Calf ---- and all of these who sinned against Him were blotted out of the book.

So this scripture does stand the test of time. Because it addresses those specific people in the wilderness, and for the specific sin they committed.

As per post #105 - you should apologize for twisting this scripture. Because it is clear that you have abused it.

Jesus also did not lie when he replied "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God" to those who questioned "who then can be saved":

Luke 18:

26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?

27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

Absolutely. It needed to be mixed with faith. God gives the sustenance and power.

Exactly.

So why do you not allow God to work out the eternal salvation of the believer?

1 Corinthians 1:8-9 Who [God] shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

I can guarantee you my friend that the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and what He has done for us is not being abusive. The gospel of the grace of God in Christ is the power of God for salvation.

Telling people that Jesus is a liar when He said that the Holy Spirit will be in you forever. John 14:16 - is abusing people and scripture.

I encourage you to ask the Lord if you are a Christian and He will show you His love and grace and how magnificent He really is.

Who says we don't let God work in our lives? Of course we do. But it takes our co-operation.

Moses interceded for aaron and the people after they built the calf, and moses, was the mediator of the first covenant

exodus 32:11-14 "And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? 12Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people. 13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever. 14And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

Jesus even provides for those who died in the first age before the law, those who died in the times of the flood...(Note the importance of baptism in water)

1 peter 3:`18-22 "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 22Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him."

So will you now fix your screen dump database to take into account the truth that this statement by God to Moses was specific to the people being addressed?

I was showing the reality that we can take any scripture out of it's context and say what we want to say. It looks like you missed the whole point of the post to begin with. It wasn't for you obviously.

The truth of what of the finished work of what Jesus did at the cross and resurrection is the absolute truth.

That was "the message".

We need to filter all scripture through what Christ has already done for us. Without that - we create man-made religions like - lose your salvation and we end up creating "unbelieving believers".

I didn't say you don't let God work in your lives.

I asked about the eternal salvation that God works out in the life of the believer.

God confirms the believer to the end.

And please note, vs 9 also states God is faithful.

We're not so faithful. At times we do stumble and fall. And when we do find ourselves having stumbled, our Lord Jesus Christ seeks us out and brings us back.

And I am not saying that we are not to do good works. Believers have been created us in Christ Jesus unto good works (Eph 2:10).

I am saying that we need to rely on God to confirm us to the end. He is faithful. We are no more able to confirm ourselves to the end than the man in the moon (who is nonexistent I might add).

Again, if/when we do stumble, we have a Lord Who seeks us out and brings us back.

Luke 18:18-23New King James Version (NKJV)

Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler

[SUP]18 [/SUP]Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

[SUP]19 [/SUP]So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. [SUP]20 [/SUP]You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”[SUP][a][/SUP]

[SUP]21 [/SUP]And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”

[SUP]22 [/SUP]So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

[SUP]23 [/SUP]But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.

Why is it that Jesus did not tell this one to simply "Believe"? Why was Jesus talking about commandments in answer to the question of eternal life?

Or do you think there are multiple ways to eternal life? A set of commandments for one set of people, and for set of people its faith?
The rich young man needed faith - i.e. he had to believe what Jesus instructed him to do, and then do it. Whether he did or not is unclear isn't it?

It seems pretty clear that he had idols he was unwilling to relinquish...

You have completely missed the point of what Chris said. The young man obviously believed Jesus 100% - that is why he asked his opinion as a revered teacher, and then got very upset when the answer was not what he wanted to hear.

But unless he acted on what Jesus told him, his belief is meaningless.

It is a very good example of how faith without action = diddly squat

To whom are you speaking? Do you deny that the young ruler had idols? You then completely miss the point of what I said to you. You are deceived to think the text is not clear!
