This should help to know the difference between"sin" - the noun used in Romans 6:14 "sin shall not have dominion over you" and "sinning" the verb which is the action of sinning.

In order to understand Romans 6-7 ( and then finally chapter 8 where the Spirit comes in ) we need to understand the difference between "sin" and
"sinning".

Not knowing this leads to all kinds of doctrines like this "sinless perfection in the flesh" one that some try to promote. This doctrine will upset the faith of the young Christian and really in the end promote turmoil in their minds and ship-wreck their faith.

This will also create a works-righteousness mindset instead of a faith-righteousness one that is completely fixed on Christ's completed work for the believer.

We will always have the flesh with us and anyone that says they never are "sinning" have a very low opinion of the holiness of God and are only thinking of the "biggie sins" which they don't do and not including things like outbursts of anger, malice, slandering others in the body of Christ, causing strife and divisions..etc.

Malice and slander and things like these ( Gal. 5:21 ) are just as destructive as living a homosexual lifestyle.

There is a difference between sin the noun and sinning the verb. Set free from sin does not mean set free from sinning entirely the rest of one's life. Whatsoever is of faith is sinning. This is why the blood of Jesus continually cleanses us from all sin because we are in the light. 1 John 1:7

Sin the noun has been quarantined in the flesh which is why the Holy Spirit circumcised our hearts ( where He lives and is joined as one in the spirit with us) from the body of flesh.

Romans chapter 6 and 7 uses the noun "sin" 48x times ( which speaks of thelaw of sin that is in our flesh ) and only once as the verb which is the action of "sinning".

Here is what Vine's describes this "law of sin" that is in the flesh - acting through the members of our body when we yield to it.

"agoverning principle or power,e.g., Rom. 6:6; "(the body) of sin," here "sin" is spoken of as an organized power, acting through the members of the body, "

Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.

The set free from sin (the noun ) is relating to not having to be subject anymore to the flesh because we have been sealed in our spirit in our inner man in Christ. - the new creation in Him.

The law of sin is in the flesh and will be there until we leave this earth. Romans 7:19-22. which is where we are not "in the flesh" as Paul says in Romans 8:9 : BUT "in the Spirit".

Colossians 2:11 (NASB)
[SUP]11 [/SUP] and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands,inthe removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;

Now we are to walk by the Spirit so that we will not fulfill the flesh to do "its" desires. Romans 6:13

As our minds get renewed to the truth of Christ and what He has already done for us - the Holy Spirit transforms us and we live a holier life. This is all God's work but we participate in it with Him. ( sometimes this is also called the saving of the soul which the mind is a part of )
Hebrews 10
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? [SUP]30 [/SUP]For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”[SUP][e][/SUP] says the Lord.[SUP][f][/SUP] And again, “The Lord will judge His people.”[SUP][g][/SUP] [SUP]31 [/SUP]It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Galatians 6 v7,8

[SUP]7 [/SUP]Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. [SUP]8 [/SUP]For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

Yes...the Lord will judge His people the Jews as Hebrews 10:30 says - and they will be judged by the Lord Jesus Christ by Paul's gospel if they reject Christ. All the world is in the same boat.

Jesus said to the Jews - "Don't say that we have Abraham as our father - for God is able to make children out of these stones".

It's time to repent and believe in the gospel just like Jesus said in Mark 1:15

All the world has been sanctified ( including the Jews ) set apart for the gospel. God is the Savior of all men - especially of believers - Paul says in Timothy.

Even the unbelieving spouse is "sanctified" ( set apart) because of the believer.

1 Corinthians 7:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

Sorry I am stuck on this statement:

So, the inner man in Christ created in righteousness and holiness cannot sin - not even once. Sin done in the flesh does not affect the inner man in Christ.
When you sin the whole body, heart, mind and soul is effected.

What happened is God gives you a bath daily and that is why His children are holy and righteous. Not because your sin doesn't effect your inner man. What is pure and totally unaffected by our sin is the Holy Spirit, who will never leave us. However our spirit is not the same as the Holy Spirit. Our spirit is tied to our mind and our heart and our bodies.

When we sin it like adding salt to our pure life giving water that God gave us. When we sin it hides our light behind a bushel.

When we pray and listen, the Holy Spirit adds oil to our lamps and burns away the Bush that we hide under, the fig leaves we use to hide our sins. When we read the Bible and listen, God gives us discernment to separate the salt from the water and let's the water fall back as life giving rain.

Learning God's laws allows you to see the edges of the path God wants us to walk. It gives you lines in the race called life. It helps you from falling in a ditch. It helps you discern God's true light from the false gospels preached by men.

Why would you call teaching of the law legalistic?

God's laws are good and teach people to live godly lives.

God's laws tells us to forgive others even when we don't think they deserve it. Go the extra mile, turn the other cheek, give your enemies the shirt off your back.

God's laws tell us if we want to be great in heaven, we are called to be servants here on earth. Wash others feet, humbly sit in the lowest place in the feast, esteem others comfort and not higher than your own.

God's law tells us to be content with the blessings God has already given us. Don't envy your neighbors wealth and good fortune. Bless God for your food, shelter, life. Don't worry about tomorrow because God loves you more than the grass whom he clothes with flowers. Focus on today and trust God to provide for your needs. Focus on doing the good works He has given you to do instead of worrying about the things the world concerns itself with.

So what is wrong with God's laws?

John 8

[SUP]11 [/SUP]She said, “No one, Lord.”

And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go andsin no more.

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

A woman caught in sin has an encounter with the Lord.
She calls Him Lord.
Her condemnation is lifted
His instruction to her is Go and Sin No More. (If it were not possible, Jesus would not have said so)
He then says: I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

Tremendous power is available to those who FOLLOW JESUS. All of His words.

We are joi8ned as one spirit with the Lord. 1 Cor. 6:17

The Lord Jesus Christ is in our spirit by Holy Spirit. The new creation in Christ cannot sin - as 1 John 3:9 and 5:18 shows. We are still responsible for the deeds done in our body.

Romans 8:10 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Understanding the circumcision in Christ is paramount to growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord. I

'm off for the day but I will post about this circumcision when I get back. It's the "cutting away" of the body of flesh from the inner man that is created in righteousness and holiness. Col. 2:11

The understanding of this truth has dramatically changed my life to not let sin dominate me as it did in the past. The knowing of Christ's work for us is paramount to having our minds renewed to the truth.

No where do I see where Paul said that we lose our salvation because of sin especially if one reads 1 Corinthians in context.

This verse here in 1 John 5:18 says the same thing basically as 1 John 3:9...it says that the one born of God cannot sin. I don't believe the new creation in Christ can sin as 1 John 3:9 and 1 John 5:18 speaks about
.

It is definitely in the present tense which means "doing a sin now". Present tense is always present tense. Whether it is one sin or a thousand sins. I don't believe the new creation in Christ where Christ dwells can be contaminated or touched by sin.

What happens to our spirit where Christ is joined as one with us when we sin if the theory that sin can reach our new man in Christ - which has been created in righteousness and holiness. Do we go in and out of righteousness because it is NOT our righteousness but Christ's alone?

Let's say we sinned ( and whatsoever is not of faith is sin so this could mean any type of sin ) and then we die in a car crash just after we got angry at someone and called them a name ( which Jesus says is a sin in Matt 5:22 ) - we have lost righteousness and thus not able to go to heaven?

There are so many problems when you really stop to ponder the ramifications with the theory that we lose our righteousness because sin touches the inner man in Christ.

We can sin by yielding our members in our flesh if we yield to it and we are responsible with what we do in our bodies.

1 John 5:18 (NASB)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

Jesus is keeping us from the evil one in our new creation in Christ.

I was reading an old journal this morning and came across this writing. I can't remember where it came from or if it's a compilation of some things from others as well as myself but I though it might be good to ponder.

3 Ways sinning affects the life of the Christian

1) Christian bondage

Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. The more our minds are submitted to sinning in all it's forms - the more in bondage we become.

In reality we are free in Christ - in our new creation - the inner man of the new heart; however, the one who lives in sinning has lost sight of their freedom and sin will rule their life. Sinning bluffs us into submission by it's deceitfulness but it has no power other than what we give it. Rom. 6:12-14.

2) Religious Bondage

Legalistic religion masquerades as "godliness". Legalism doesn't trust God, so it implements rules. Many under legalism declare that Christ is sufficient with their lips, but if people really believed this they wouldn't turn to human effort instead of receiving what Christ has already done by faith.

At the heart of legalism is a distrust of God despite what the lips may be saying.

Legalism is just as much a source of bondage as out-right sinning is. Yes, legalism is sinning because it is not by faith.

Many who live by legalism deny that they are legalists. Perhaps we should clarify what legalism is. Legalism is to attempt to make yourself right, do good works, or keep yourself in God's will by human effort. It is to focus on any law other than the law of faith and of love.

When the Christian struggles with sinning, the message of the gospel is "Trust in Christ, for this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith." Our responsibility as teachers and brethren is to help one another find comfort in the love and grace of God and remind each other that even after failures, we have victory in Christ.

Cont....

Great post thanks for sharing.

1 Corinthians 15a

[SUP]34 [/SUP]Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God.

- To the church.
- And many lack this knowledge (whilst it should be so obvious).

He is?!?

If He is He's doing a lousy job, 'cause everybody I know still has to deal with it.

G777, I can always count on you to post something unscriptural.

These people will think they can 'blame' Jesus for 'their' ongoing sinful behavior on the Day of Judgement.

They refused to Repent. And instead they sought out teachers who would do for them the following:

2 Timothy 4
[SUP]3 [/SUP]For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires (lusts), because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; [SUP]4 [/SUP]and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

No where do I see where Paul said that we lose our salvation because of sin especially if one reads 1 Corinthians in context.

Here we go. Last I checked Paul wrote the Letter to the Ephesians:

Ephesians 5[SUP]
3 [/SUP]But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; [SUP]4 [/SUP]neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. [SUP]5 [/SUP]For this you know,[SUP][a][/SUP] that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. [SUP]6 [/SUP]Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. [SUP]7 [/SUP]Therefore do not be partakers with them.

Enough proof?

Still got the same threads on tap? Just checking back in after a few months gone! I find some new voices since I left and still some of the same oldtimers!

But as I said before, I still have not seen anyone give a verse that clearly teaches "that once a person is save, they are always saved" -- . . . . . . . . .

Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

Ro 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Having eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear.
