yeah alot of folks are confused by the old english language i used to be also which is why i studied the niv for a long time. after college and alot of shakespear and old writings i picked up the language quite well and dont have to go look up definitions like i used to, it used to really slow me down, would have to read 2 or three times to get what it was saying.

cup of tea i guess lol
Lol yah I never got into that language to deeply. I figured if im going to bring people to Christ I at least can make the language understandable lol. That way once they mature and can know how to study scriptures then its up to them what translation they like.

yeah lol i wish i hadnt either haha the hebrew and greek was a waste of time cuz i only did it thinking id find some flaw in the kjv text and i found no differences after all the study of the texts. the shakepear was required reading so i actually kind of enjoyed a few of those and did learn to better understand the old english so im glad for that.

yeah thats how i look at it He made the way home for the prodigal.....butr the prodigal has to repent and start walking home on the path :)
He paved the way for all no matter what stage in life.
Some come for the first time and others like me walked away and lived in sin knowing it was wrong and just like the prodigal son. Life became meaningless and hard to uphold. And God forgave me and set me back up right, gave me a calling, and loved me like I never had felt.

This is why I plead with all who test the Lord and or living lukewarm. Love is only a choice a way. A love like no other that will take all the hurt and reasons for walking away due to lies of satan and worldly pleasures or distractions used by evil.

God weeps over your stubbornness knowing the destruction of the choice to leave him. Just as God countless times told Israel to come back and I will make things right.

yeah o can relate to that also, was a terrible sinner for awhile evenj knowing the word, i never felt lots even at my worst i just was blind to the obedience things in scripture at that time because of my deeds being so violent and lascivious, and always drunk and high and everything. hes changed me alot over the years all through His words. i think thats why i stick to pointing people to the words in the gospel, because like jesus says so often they are life and freedom from our pasts colored scarlet, i know what happened in my life and probably was worse than alot of folks, now those things i hate and dont even appeal any longer. i still work on things daily, but man its truly a freedom ive never Known and accomplishments i never thought possible like the addictions He broke and the ways he straightened out, so thankful for His words. i think of His words as the greatest gift of all to be honest

Surely Paul in the Epistle to the Romans explains it!
And in his Epistle to the Galatians he clearly explains the consequences of not understanding the real message of the cross.

I've got to say that I am a bit reticent about answering here because in another thread you tried to blow me out of the water by claiming how self-evident the Bible is and how "long explanations" are not necessary.
I did accept your apology, but here you are apparently asking for help in understanding what to me is a fundamental doctrine of Christianity, and so I don't really understand how your claims in that other thread can stand with what you are asking now.
Wow! I forgive you but......

The death of Christ is 2 fold. You can study the old time sacrifices and conclude it to be a starting point. But remember our high priest is in the order of melchizedek. We are grafted in .
Time does not allow me now but consider what the Lord said in Isaiah. "Behold I do a new thing".
Jesus with the woman at the well " the time has come and now is that we worship in spirit and in truth.
Paul writes " all things become new.".....
Jesus fulfilled the old and created all things new. Reckoning the old man dead.
We now walk with God once more.

amen to alot of that,

but isnt the mosaic Law what was placed beside the ark of the ten commandments law ? and a witness against those who broke them?

deuteronomy 31:After Moses finished writing in a book the words of this law from beginning to end, 25he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord: 26Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God. There it will remain as a witness against you. 27For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you have been rebellious against the Lord while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die! 28Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to testify against them. 29For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the Lord and arouse his anger by what your hands have made.”

where as the covenant law was the ten commandments placed inside the ark?

exodus 31:18 "When the LORD finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.

exodus 25:16 "Then put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law, which I will give you."

so the mosaic Law written by moses was a witness against sinners which makes all of what paul says about it being removed to me anyways really clear

colossians 2:14 "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

to me it makes sense with other things paul says regarding being dead to the law through the body of Christ, and also makes sense with this

1 timothy 1:9 "Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

so it makes sense to me that the thing removed was the first testament given through Moses because it was a witness against the people who God knew were going to rebel at moses death, as he tells moses just before His death. and when that mosaic Law is taken away you have only the covenant law of the ten commandments remaining. and then the new testament of Jesus, replaces moses? because we Know that Jesus came " to call sinners to repentance" and is our "advocate with the father" and is at Goids right hand, which is where the book of the Law was placed beside the ark before because Gods glory at that time dwelt just above the ark.

i see Goid removing the witness against us, and placing the advocate for us. does that seem plausible?
I have heard folks try and make the separation but I don't accept it because of these verses..

2 Corinthians 3:7 ►
New International Version
Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was,

The ministry of death includes the tablets of stone that contained the 10 commandments. The "Mosaic" law is all of it.

romans 2:6-11 "Who will render to every man according to his deeds:7To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11For there is no respect of persons with God.

seems the reward is pretty plainly eternal Life. like Jesus says in matthew 25, like paul says in galatians 6

galatians 6:7-9 "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

its not pleasant, but its not to be ommited when ots so plain. its not as if God is gonna pay us a wage some will have alot of possessions and others wont. its about the Kingdom, Life eternal. our place is to walk in what we know of Jesus and thus keep our conscience clear. if we mess up, repent and follow the forgiveness thats readily available in His gospel. forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
If one reads Romans 2:6-11 in isolation from the rest of the book of Romans, one might conclude that Paul was teaching salvation by works. However, as you read and study these passages, it is imperative to keep in mind that these verses do not describe how one becomes saved, but the way the saved conduct their lives. These works done are the result of, not the means or basis of receiving salvation. So patient continuance in well doing, seeking for glory, honor, and immortality; (vs. 7) is not at all set forth as the means of their procuring eternal life, but as a description of those to whom God does render life eternal.

Notice that ALL who receive eternal life are described as such, everyone who does good (vs. 10). Good deeds flow from a heart that is saved and evil deeds flow from a heart that is unsaved. Verse 8 - but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath. This is descriptive of unbelievers. Notice that ALL who do not receive eternal life are described as such, everyone who does evil (vs. 9). What those passages convey is that though our deeds are judged by God, it's not the good deeds themselves which are the basis or means of our salvation, but the type of deeds expose whether our heart was saved, or not. These deeds done out of faith are the fruit, not the root of our salvation.

If Paul wanted to teach that we are saved by works, then he would have clearly stated that we are saved through faith and works in Ephesians 2:8,9 and that we are justified by faith and works in Romans 5:1 but that is clearly NOT what Paul said. Also see (Romans 4:2-6; Titus 3:5; 2 Timothy 1:9). Eternal life is a gift (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8) and not a reward that we work for and earn.

You continue to read the Bible through the lens of "performance-based" works salvation and you also continue to confuse DESCRIPTIVE passages of Scripture with PRESCRIPTIVE passages of Scripture.

Dave wilkerson preached a message at times square church "the death of a promise"

truly awesome.

Abraham,Joseph,Moses,David,...and the biggie,Jesus.

these all saw the promise 'die" then come back to life.

The cross was a stepping stone. Not an end all.

We live in resurrection life.We die to the flesh.,but the living is the main component.
The devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy. Jesus said "but i have come to give life"
Jesus is the promise. He is the gospel. The cross is not a stepping stone. It's a cornerstone.

Without it, the whole building falls.

I skimmed the last few pages. I currently use Bible hub in my studies because you get all the versions of the Bible and even the Hebrew and Greek cross references to help understand a confusing word.

It helps me see that the message is basically the same.

I tend to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation once a year because I find my memory sometimes forgets.

Also I come on here and there is so many different understandings that I need to read the Bible verses in context to see if what I believe is actually in the Bible text itself or something I heard at church or read in a sermon or commentary.

I typically don't blindly accept what others tell me and believe God wants us to be Bereans and search scripture ourselves.

However, I realize that the Holy Spirit works in the lives of believers. I have seen it in my own life and in the lives of others. I know that spiritual maturity isn't limited to physical age or Bible knowledge. It is dependent on how long you have walked and actually listened to the Holy Spirit.

God teaches heavenly wisdom and the fruit of the Spirit. He shows us who we should learn from and it's not due to charisma. God's mature kids aren't powerful speakers with lots of money plastered all over TV. They are the humble servants serving food at the soup kitchen. They are the ones hugging widows and orphans. They are laughing at weddings and weeping at funerals.

We are drawn to the light of God reflected from some people because it reminds us of our Father and gives us a sense of peace and being back home in this strange world.

It is finished.

The cross is the healing love of God expressed to mankind, that the door to eternity is open,
to love, to reality, to victory, to freedom from sins bondage, to communion and oneness with
the creator of the universe.

God became our Father, our friend, our Saviour, our Lord, He came along side us, took our burdens
and showed we can walk with Him and experience life in a totally new way filled with love and life.

But first we need to know we are loved and forgiven, to start again. It is at the cross this healing
begins and continues throughout our lives.

Now if you want to see how hard this road is for us to see or walk, ask people about love and
emotions. Who do you really know and love? Who would you die for? Who do you live for?
Who have you bonded with, ever?

We live in families who we know throughout our lives, yet often they can strangers to us.
Intimacy, hearts, emotions can be distant, deep hurts that tare our lives apart, betrayal,
and also union, becoming one from two wills, seeing new life grow and become new and strong.

Jesus speaks beyond this, beyond ecstasy, beyond dreams or soppy dreams, in justice, purity,
healing, wholeness, a family who all can be trusted and relied upon.

The more I see Jesus, the more stunning He is to me. He wants our hearts, freely opened,
cleansed and washed clean, to be not just servants but friends, to be like Him and flowing in
all that He is. We have a King who wishes to share all the wonderful things He has, but only
is possible if we can accept the limitations to true holiness, purity and love, shown in the
cross, the totally contradiction of the ways of the world.

The ministry of death includes the tablets of stone that contained the 10 commandments. The "Mosaic" law is all of it.
I think this verse (2Cor 3:7) has more to do with the two covenants, rather then doing away with God's Law. God's Law (10 commandments) is very much a part of the Gospel of Christ. The first covenant was God's Law written on stone with the finger of God, the people were told to obey it and could not and the second covenant is God's Law written on the heart by the operation of God when the believer is born again through faith in God's Word.

God's Law written on tables of stone is called the ministry of death because it only shows sin and the wages of sin is death which is the first part of Rom 6:23 it does not show a remedy for sin when the Law is broken. The second part of Rom 6:23 in a way introduces the new covenant which is the gift of God with the Law written on the heart by the operation of God.

The Law of God is part of the Gospel and cannot be separated from it because it shows us that we are sinners in need of a Savoir every moment of the day. When we see that we are sinners we feel our need of a Saviour and we feel our need of a Saviour God is able to open the door of salvation to us as we have faith in His Word. That is why God's Law is our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ that we might be justified by faith (Gal 3:24) and "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul." (Ps 19:7)

The Law of God (10 commandments) is God's law given to the people through Moses but was not the law of Moses it was God's Law. The laws of Moses included a lot of the ceremonial, sacrificial system, feasts days and Holy days that all pointed to the coming Saviour of the world, Jesus. Which when Jesus died were finished or were nailed to the cross.

However all these Laws were in a sense nailed to the cross in that they all pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. However, this does not mean God's Law was done away with like some people claim like the laws of Moses (ceremonial and sacrificial system), because without God's Law there is no knowledge of sin, if there is no knowledge of sin then we have no need of a savoir and if we have no need of a savoir we have no salvation. God's Law is the test that God has given us to help us to see if we are following Him or not and leads us to the foot of the cross.

God's Blessing

We probably need to look at what exactly was nailed to the cross.

Colossians 2
6Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

8See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spiritsa of the world, and not according to Christ. 9For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15He disarmed the rulers and authoritiesb and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.c

Let No One Disqualify You

16Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. 18Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions,d puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, 19and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.

20If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21“Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22(referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

So these are the ceremonial laws of Moses that pointed to Jesus right? Time to sleep my end.. we can chat more latter nice to chat ...

God bless you
