Can Christian schools have a positive influence in kids' spiritual lives? Can some of them do more harm than good? What are the pros and cons of Christian schools?

It all depends on the school and the teachers. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the parents to teach their children, so even if they go to a Christian school, the parents should still be discussing the material with their kids to ensure consistency with Scriptural truth.

What I have seen of Christian schools is that there is a greater culture of encouragement and recognition of different gifts. Kids in my neighborhood who are socially awkward are encouraged in what they do well, even if it isn't "cool" by the wider culture.

I go to a public school. I don't speak from a parent's perspective, but a students. I am about to graduate this year, and let me say, if there weren't other people in my life, i would have been completely corrupted by public school teachings! Not only do they teach things that oppose the word of God, they also are full of people who slander his name etc..... it's messy. It can be hard to cling to your faith.

I am not sure if it is just as bad in a christian school or not

I sent my children all three to Christian schools. I have no idea why a parent would not choose to use Christian education if it's available to them. They also went on to Christian colleges. Did not hurt them a bit.

Public schools are populated with impressionable children and tons of perverted teachers. If you want your children influenced by sodomites, atheists both overt and introverted and haters of God then the government indoctrination system is right up your alley.

If you want to have fun go and ask an educator or administrator at the school system to define education. The education they plan to give your child.

For the cause of Christ

There are more benefits than cons for sure. I would recommend that you not allow your child to go into a Christian school that would keep your kids naive about the world or cause them to rebel later in life.

I was raised in one like this until I finished the 7th grade. My parent then put me in a very good public school and that is where i graduated

I don't know how things are in your part of the world, but here they are teaching kids that sexual immorality is good, in some schools, according to what I am reading. Christian schools can cause harm, but if I had kids, I'd rather have them in a Christian school in this day and age.

Here in Brazil schools don't encourage homosexual practices, but they say it's acceptable.

I have a close friend who has custody of three grand children (6 to 16). He is a single parent and a very active Christian. He was having a difficult time with them until he enrolled them in a Christian school three years ago. I see these children at least twice a week, and based on their progress, I recommend Christian schools. His advice is always, talk to other parents before you select the school.

My youngest son has his children (11 and 15) enrolled in virtual (on line) public school. The are excelling academically, but they need a lot more social interaction with peers. The church provides supervised activities, but I don't believe that is enough. I believe that all churches should consider supporting social activities ministries for virtual schooled children.

Most Christian schools are non-profit. If you are looking for a place to invest in Christian education, consider making regular contributions to one of them, or paying the tuition for a student(s). Talk to parents with children in the school first.

I went to a private Christian school for a bit while in Jr. High. I felt it was a much better atmosphere than most public schools offer. I’m sure it varies from school to school though.

It is our ministry to raise and teach our children the way of the Lord.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.5 You shall love the Lordyour God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Read chapter 5 it is the giving of the 10 Commandments, we need to teach our child the 10 Commandments, why?

Romans 2:17-24, 3:19-20 But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God18 and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed from the law;19 and if you are sure that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth—21 you then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal?22 You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?23 You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law.24 For, as it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

19 Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

The 10 Commandments are the foundation of Christ, they are the embodiment of truth and knowledge, what do they bring knowledge of "sin". Unfortunately many people that name the name of Christ do not know how the 10 Commandment pertain to their lives. They bring us to the knowledge of sin and they guide us in our walk with the Lord, the Law of liberty, sweeter that the honeycomb. We as parents need to teach our children, not a christian school the ways of the Lord. Many christian
school have the same problems are public schools the only difference is the indoctrination. Public is worldly and the christian school should be Godly, but there is no guarantee that they will teach your children these things. Here's the sad part is parents spend all that money to give their children a good education and shield them from the world. Then they go to college and get shell shocked because in any school not everyone in a place of christian education are christians.

As all as you do your part to teach your children I don't see a problem with either. The children will be exposed to the world sooner in public schools as opposed to christian school.

My son had to go to public school because he is autistic and Christian schools, where I live could not provide for his special needs, and I did not have 60k a year to send him to a privet special needs school. He was what they “called” 70/30. 70% he was with special needs only classes, but because of the law he had to have 30% typically developed schedule; which was made up of lunch, gym, and like music/art. But even in his special needs class in health they sent home school work, for, sex-ed, about same sex relationships. I fought the school and got my son out of that portion of health class.

In public schools’ parents, really must advocate for their children. One must be involved, I know it is not just like my case a child in special needs class. Yes, it is true, it starts at home, Christian values and so forth, but at least a Christian school is not on purpose teaching a curriculum contrary to the Word of G-d.

I went to a Christian school from kindergarten through first year of college.

While no school is perfect, the chances of your child being taught (and modeled) virtuous, Godly living are exponentially better.

And, many Christian schools are academically better. Not all, but many.

they also are full of people who slander his name So if one wants to use the Lord's name in vain, that's fine. However, bring a Bible to school or discuss Christianity in a positive way and the American Criminal Liberties Union steps shouting "separation of church and state" because it's a place supported by taxpayer dollars and the school can't have students endorsing a non-Muslim religion?

You specifically mentioned spirituality. Is that supposed to carry throughout the line of questions?

Public schools are becoming more and more hostile to Christianity. It'd hard to get worse on a child's spirituality than at a public school.

Bless you for being a young person standing for Jesus

And just remember... one of the leading ways the devil causes all kinds of problems in a young lady's life is... gets them involved with a young man that is not being led by the Lord.

Hopefully you know that by now, but if not just thought I'd throw that out there.

I'd imagine your parents are very joyous over you...

We send our kids (11 and 9) to public school and talk to them about what they learn and what the Bible says.

We encourage our kids to pray and read the Bible for themselves and establish in their hearts what God's truths are.

My kids have at least 3 different versions of the Bible already and a lot of children's bibles.

I used to read to them the Picture bible and they would "help" read the words that had pictures above them.

We talk about the Sunday school lesson and how there is more in the Bible than typically taught at Sunday school. Sometimes we read the passages together from a real bible (versus the children version) and talk about it.

What I find is that many people who go to Christian schools only read the children book stories and never have read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

Going to public school or Christian schools doesn't mean your kids will be taught Biblical truth in either.

We have to teach our kids discernment and the ability to separate God's truth from the world's lies.

Sometime that is hard in Christian schools who claim to be teaching God's truth when instead they teach man-made doctrines.

So really you just have to be active in your kids lives which ever school you send them too.

I volunteer at the public schools a lot and get to know and pray with the teachers. So I feel comfortable sending My kids into their care for a few hours each day,

Maybe it's because I live in the south but we still have teenagers praying at the flagpole every morning for their classmates.

There is also the Christian Athelics association and other student lead Christian groups at the public schools I have been in contact with.

Yes some teachers are atheist but some are also Christians.

My daughter told another kid about Jesus on the playground after she was baptised in the 1st grade. They asked what that meant...she said...God loves us and wants us to be a part of His family.

Sometimes it amazes me how God uses our little ones to witness to others.

I do not have kids, but if I did, they would 100% go to a Christian school. there is no way that they would go to public school and here about evolution , it's o.k. to be gay or tranny, a twisted version of history. no way they would get exposed to that.
