I think they are two words for the same thing a holder that holds a light source. I'm trying to understand why God had the KJV translators use both lamp and candle. :)
Instead of asking yourself if it was really God or just their middle ages knowledge error.

It's obvious they knew what "ner" meant because they translated the word lamp in some places and candle in other places so it's not a question of middle ages knowledges wouldn't you agree? They used different words that have the same meaning - candle and lamp for a reason.:)

I think the KJV translators used candle and candlestick because the vulgate used them.... so the question is why did they use Vulgate terminology... inspiration is the only reason I can think of.

Error is another one.

I'm curious, do you think the KJV translators didn't know the difference between a wax candle and an oil lamp?
I do not know. We are talking about middle ages. Middle ages, you know? They knew almost nothing.

If you would tell them it is possible for a man to walk on the moon, they would burn you at stake.

They could have various strange things in their heads.

They took it from the Vulgate, do you think the Vulgate was wrong too?

"A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump." If what you said is true, then throw them all out.
If you wish to throw all out just because they have candle instead of lamp, do it.

I can live with such errors.

I need every word to be right because I don't want to make any calls concerning God's word. It's either correct, or I don't want it. Candle is correct.

I watched a video recently that changed my mind on the type of Bible I should keep as the over-riding bible authority. I have an NIV, ESV, Gideon's new testament, NKJV, KJV and am picking up a n Amplified Holy Bible tomorrow. I will probably use one of the most accurate to the King James, for quick reading, but highlight thereof area's and swap back to KJV. But will try to stick with the old English in the KJV until I get confused.

I watched Pastor Steven L Anderson's, New World Order movie. Just under 2 hours long, very interesting. Puts potentially the NIV, ESV, NKJV and more to shame, depending on version's and errors of course.

So, (1) Have you watched the video? If not,
watch it first, please.

(1b) Did the video change your mind?

(2) What Bible do you support?

(3) Why do you support it?

At the bottom of your post, please put final Bible choice in caps, alone, so it can be seen as a tally. Thanks.

KJV
I use the "Companion Bible" which is KJV! Alongside, Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the (KJV) Bible. Of course, people these days, want everything handed to them on a silver platter! INCLUDING SALVATION! But?...it doesn't WORK that way!

One extrem is to think that every mistake a translator or copyist made is inspired.

Another extrem is to think that if some small mistake is present in the text, whole the text is to be trashed.

You can for example check the Revelation in your KJV. There is a known error Erasmus did (he did not have any Greek manuscript so he took some words from Latin and created something non-existent in any Greek manuscript).

You can either burn the KJV because it has some error in it or you can pray to it with "oh, dear KJV, show me how is this latin reading inspired" or you can take a pencil and make a note "tree of life, not book of life" and continue with your Christian life.

Your choice.

C’mon trofimus…you mean to tell me that a menorah isn’t a candlestick? That’s impossible. The KJV says it’s a candlestick. The KJV is infallible. These newer versions trying to say that a menorah is a lampstand have it all wrong. I’m sure we could ask anyone who owns a menorah, and they would confirm that it is indeed a candlestick, not a lampstand.

Plus, if I find another manuscript that agrees with my KJV translation, then it has to be right too.

Similar situation to Vulgate's changes of Greek culture into Roman culture.

Like:
"And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker."
(Acts 14:12 KJV)

But it must be inspired because... I do not know... some deep meaning or something.

And if not, whole the Bible cannot be trusted! Or someting like this.

Do you have an opinion on why the kjv translators used candlestick instead of lamp stand?

Yeah I agree. The whole “if one word isn’t translated accurately I can’t believe anything” argument is ludicrous.

I’m sure you have an explanation. So let’s hear it. How is a menorah a candlestick?
