Several of my schools did teach it. And, it was not an elective. I can remember that one of the earliest assignments was to stand before the class, and tell them how to get to our house. Today, I know very few adults who can manage to do that.

If I tell you that an earthquake is about to happen would you think I was speaking of an earthquake that will happen 1947 years later?

Mat 17:12 (Young's) and I say to you -- Elijah did already come, and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they would, so also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them.'

Mat 17:12 (KJV) But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

You're playing with semantics. Either way, you would learn NOTHING without the Holy Spirit teaching you. Let Him teach you and stop trying to learn by intellect alone.

I don't think it is important when this happens. I believe that we should live the
life of Christ day by day and be ready regardless of when it comes. No one knows
the day or the hour, not even the Son. In my opinion, we would be better off not
to be speculating but spending that time to furthering our journey to the Lord.
As it says in John 6, once God has us by the hand, nothing can snatch us away.
Personally, I put all my faith in that.

I do not know, English is not my native language. So I can miss such nuances. Thats why I ask.

Also, I would check with Greek. It may be that if it is only in the KJV, it can be because of older English.

Every generation manages what it needs to manage.

We have GPS (US), Galileo (EU) or Glonass (Russia) in every mobile phone today, so we do not have a need to learn a precise description of routes.

Which, naturally, produces problems when you will want me to do it. It will be foreign to me.

On the other hand, I know of many young adults being able to talk about what they are really interested in and really using - about youtube, mobile phones, computers, games etc.

So no change. No "our generation was better".

We are only a matter of years from many nations (or rogue powers) having the capability of disrupting all sorts of electronic and technical trinkets we depend upon. At that time, those old methods of communication will be indispensable.

That is very possible.

But because we already have the know-how, we can repair the IT infrastructure quite fast.

And if we are talking about some kind of nuclear war/winter, in that case we will have quite different worries (like what to drink and how to die without much pain).

I'm a pilot. And no pilot can get their license without learning the unaided basic functions of navigation and visual communication, simply because that "repair" scenario just isn't going to happen at the time you might need the basics to save your life and the lives of many others.

Well I agree that as far as public speaking there were courses taught. That is not the same though as sharing emotions to your wife. That is not the same either as telling your best friend he stinks on some days? (snicker) How would you go about telling your lovely wife how when she gets angry it terrifies you because of the way you were raised? Or how would you tell your beloved that you hate the way she does something? That is a different kind of communication than telling someone how to fix a bicycle.

OK, but being a pilot is a very specialized profession where navigation and communication is, of course, very basic thing...

I think you admit that some game developer or a database specialist or doctor does not need such skills...

Which does not mean they would not be able to learn it if they would need it.

Nobody needs what he does not use in his real life :)

For example, as you do not need to know how to do a heart surgery, a doctor does not need to know how to get oriented in a deep forest in Alaska :)

That does not mean that one of you is less clever.

I agree but EVERYBODY needs to know how to communicate with other people. Unless you live a mile underground in a 55 gallon drum encased in concrete?
