It sounds as if you sprained a back muscle. Probably will last a week. Sorry, I really don't know any home remedies. OTC pain relievers may be of some benefit.

That's what I take and it works somewhat and allows me to sleep at night. From what you described I know exactly how you feel. Each day the pain is a less and less. Believe it or not but it will heal faster if you remain somewhat active but not so active enough to cause an increase in pain. Ben Gay is of some use but you did say you are putting ointment on it already. Yeah, figure a week. Don't worry, it's not permanent. Pain is the language your body uses to tell you to be more careful in how you use your back.

For serious back pain take ibuprofen three times a day. I take 400 mg at a time, but do what you're comfortable with. You can take higher doses but it may make you nauseous. Also lay flat on your back on a hard floor, pull your knees to your chest and hold for a while. Return your feet to the floor but keep your knees up. This will stretch out your back muscles and get your back flat. Do this as often as you feel you need relief. I have had some serious back strains in my life, one that took years to get over. The long term cure came from doing a job that involved a lot of exercise every day. I hope yours is not so bad.

I'd tell you brand names, but I don't know if you get our brand names. Anyway there are creams that you rub in to the sore spot and it feels cold or hot. (Two different kinds of cream.) They help. Also, if you can pick up a TENS unit at the drug store, it will help. The fancy, expensive ones are for people like me with bad backs, but the drug store type ought to help your short-term pain.

Once when I was slightly turned in my seat, I felt a hot little pinch in my back while a passenger in a car that braked suddenly... throughout the rest of the day, my back pain and discomfort increased, and by the next morning I could not move, not even to roll over in bed.

A rib had twisted out of my spine and put me into chiropractic care that will last possibly for the rest of my life. At first it was really bad, going out all the time and causing me much pain and losing days of work, barely able to stand or roll over in bed etc, and I had to be very careful, for instance, no torquing when lifting anything. Now I can go for months at a time without having to see my chiropractor.

If your pain persists, see a medical professional. That first day when I phoned the hospital, I was shocked when they told me they could not do anything for me and to see a chiropractor. Back then, chiropractors did not get the respect they do these days. Every back injury I have had since then stirs up the original, also, such as whiplash. I hope your injury is not as serious, but the smallest thing can cause a great deal of damage.

There are not any needles involved with chiropractic care, but just submitting yourself to someone who is manipulation your body and bones to realign them can be scary, especially when they work on your neck. That injury was more than half my life ago :p The chiropractors I have seen over the years have all been very well trained, and helped me a lot. I did need x-rays more than once... but they do not hurt :D

I hope you are feeling much better very soon! :)

cold is good for hot pain, and a really good 'rubs' from someone close
to you will help a lot, it will get your circulation going and may even
help to release what ever got caught or pinched../
prayers sent from us both...:):)

Some back pain is muscular, some is mechanical and muscular.

Best thing to do is rest for 24 hours and apply something cold or ice in a pack
to reduce any inflammation for short periods of time. If you try to push yourself
too early you will make it worse.

Then next day try walking around a little bit every hour to get your muscles working, otherwise
you will just stiffen up too much. Gradually add some light stretching exercises
and also try heat at this point and maybe alternate between heat and cold to see
what works the best.

If it's very mild muscular problem then it should be ok after 2-3 days.
If it's bad muscular spasms, you are looking at around a week to ten days.

If its mechanical as well, like a slipped disc, sciatica etc, it will soon become apparent
as the above and normal pain killers just won't work. If no improvement after a
week or it gets worse, then see a doctor.

I've experience all the above levels of back problems, once it gets to the mechanical
stage, it's just agonising.

One thing I discovered is my back was generally weak. Also one side was stranger
than the other. Which made me more prone to back problems and muscle spasms
when twisting and turning at certain angles.

So ive been doing some exercise to improve my posture and strengthen both
sides of my back. Making sure I strengthen both sides together.

It really has made a massive difference, Im also more aware of my posture now and
the effects of slouching too much.

Use this as warning that you have a problem and do something about it now to
correct it, and strengthen your back when you feel fit enough. But don't over do it
build up gradually.
otherwise you could pull your back again and it will get weaker and
worse.

Hope you are feeling better soon. :)
