Dear friend,

You provide no scripture again only your opinions. We should believe you over the Word of God, because you say so, why? No one is saying that it is not God's Rest. (Gen 2:1-3)

God bless:)

Be honest with us. Do you love Jesus? Jesus wants you to be honest with us.

Just answer this one question: It's a yes or no answer.

If a Christian doesn't follow the Sabbath day as outlined in the Old Testament - are they sinning and dis-obeying God?

Hi Nehemiah,

So nice to meet you. Thanks for sharing what you believe. I have posted some comments for your consideration and discussion. Much of what you have said already has already been answered throughout this thread so if that is the case I will provide a link for you to read that answers something already discussed and if you would like to add further comment for discussion we can.

Some Christians believe that unless something is stated explicitly in Scripture it has no significance. While there is no explicit statement which says that the Lord's Day (not "Sunday" a pagan concept, but "the first day of the week) has replaced the sabbath, that is the actual reality from Scripture (not Constatine).
There is only one "Lords Day" and Jesus through the Word of God says it is the Sabbath Day. Jesus is the creator and maker of this Day. He made it for His people. He blessed this day and made it a Holy day and commanded his people to keep it. It is one of the 10 commandments which are the foundation of the Old and New Covenants and the Judgement to come. If we break it we commit sin and are guilty before God. If we do not repent of our sins we are guilty before God and in danger of the Judgement

Scripture proof:

Mark 2:27-28; Gen 2:1-3; Ex 20:8-11; Heb 8:10-12; Ecc 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1John 3:4, Acts 17:31; Ps 111:7-8; Rev 12:17; 14:12; 22:14

The sabbath was observed (1) as a day of rest and (2) as a day of worship. Those functions were TRANSFERRED to the Lord's Day or the first day of the week. We can look at just one passage (Acts 20:6,7) to see that the apostolic churches had already adopted the first day of the week as the day to (1) gather together for worship (2) "break bread" meaning the Lord's Supper, (3) hear the preaching of the Word of God, and (4) bring their gifts and offerings to God (1 Cor 16:1,2).
There is NO scripture in God's Word that tells us that the 7th Day Sabbath has been transferred from the 7th Day of the Week to Sunday. This is a commandment of God (Ex 20:8-11) and if we knowingly break it we commit sin. Sunday worship is a man made tradition introduced into Christianity by the Roman Catholic Church. Now it is very clear from God's Word that Jesus and all the disciples kept God's commandment as a Holy day according to God's Word. This is highlighted in the New Testament.

Scripture proof:
Mark 2:27-28; Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10

Let's look at the scripture you use;

Act 20:6-7, And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

All this scripture says is that Paul was in Troas for five days and on the 1st day of the week the disciples can to have a meal together or eat bread together. This was because Paul was leaving the next day (v 13-15). The scripture does not say that Sunday (1st day) is a holy day. The scripture does not say that this event was the "Lord's Supper". So this scripture simply does not say what your inferring.

1Co 16:1-2, Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Once again all this scripture is saying is to store up your collections for the saints on the first day of the week so that when Paul arrives everything has already been collected. This scripture does not say that Sunday is a Holy day.

At the same time Paul tells us plainly that because Christ is the reality (and He is our perfect rest or eternal Sabbath), new moons, sabbath days, and holy days are to be regarded as shadows. Therefore there was no apostolic teaching on sabbath observance in the New TestamentLet no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon,or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. (Colossians 2:16,17).
I won't spend too much time on this one as it has already been answered in many places. I will provide some links for you to look at where this has been answered thoroughly. However I will give you something to think about as well in relation to the Shadows. God’s Law (10 commandments) had a similar (not same) role is it did in the Old Testament as it does in the New and that is;

(1) God’s Law (10 commandments) point out what sin is and the wages of sin which is death. It was never a cure for sin in the Old Testament as well as in the New. (Rom 3:20; 1John 3:4).

(2) The laws of Moses however were the prescriptive cure for sin in the Old Covenant, with all the Levitical and ceremonial laws, burnt offerings, annual feast days foretelling the plan of salvation which were connected to Feast days with New Moon sabbaths, food and drink offerings and other Holy days. These where all types pointing to Jesus.

Every referenced by Paul in Col 2:14-17 is in context to (1) burnt offerings; (2) Sabbaths held at the New Moon feasts and at appointed festivals and (3) food and drink offerings. Every one of the scriptures used by the writer all have their context to the annual feast days described in Leviticus Chapter 23; Numbers chapters 28 and 29 and other places in the Old Testament. As mentioned earlier these were all done away at the cross because they were Shadows of an unfinished work that was completed at the death of Jesus (Col 2:16-17).

On the other hand the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] commandment only says this..

Exo 20:8-11,
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day.

Now please notice some key points;

Where does it say in the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] commandment of God’s Law that we need to do (1) burnt offerings (2) keep the Sabbaths at the New Moon feasts and at the appointed festivals and (3) offer food and drink offerings? It does not because it is God’s Law that points out sin. It is the same Law that we have today and is forever because it was made by God himself and represents the character of God and is the knowledge of good and evil. It shows us what sin is (Rom 3:20; 1John 3:4; Rom 6:23).

Now notice the last part of the commandment in Ex 20:11 this is the reason the commandment was given. (v11) For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day. This is a reference back to Gen 2:1-3 we touched on earlier. Highlighting that the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath is a memorial of the FINISHED work of creation and if it is a FINISHED work and a memorial of God’s creation that was given BEFORE the FALL of mankind before SIN had entered the world and before the plan of salvation was given to FALLEN man. It cannot be a Shadow because it was a part of a finished work before God’s Laws and the plan of salvation was given!

Lessons from the Creation Week

1. Gods 7th Day Sabbath was created BEFORE the fall of mankind (Gen 2:1-3)
2. It was given as the result of the FINISHED work of creation (Gen 2:1)
3. God blessed the 7th day of the week and set it apart from the other days of the week as a holy day of rest (Gen 2:2-3)
4. Jesus tells us that the 7th Day Sabbath was made for mankind (Mark 2:27)
5. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath day – the God of creation (Matt 12:8; Mark 2:28).

Now all of this was the result of the FINISHED work of creation and it was made for mankind BEFORE sin entered into the world. This is a very critical point because if the Sabbath was made for sinless man before the fall and was the result of the FINISHED work of creation (Gen 2:1). It cannot be a shadow of anything because it is finished. It was the annual Sabbaths connected to the New Moon Feast days that where done away because they all pointed to Jesus.

I referenced Hebrews chapter 4 and Genesis chapter 2 - do I really need to actually quote the texts - again.
Are you blind?
I know your doctrinal spectacles filter out what is plainly stated.

You "quoting" dozens of verses does not make your point because it is the understanding of what they actually do say that is important.

Nonsense - Paul said that "coveting" was in the Law. Unless it got kicked out of the 10 for getting caught "coveting"

Romans 7:7 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET."

God Himself said that He would make a New Covenant - NOT LIKE the old Covenant when He brought them out of Egypt and gave them the LAw on Mt. Sinai and the 10 commandments were included.

Hebrews 8:7-9 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP]
For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second.

[SUP]8 [/SUP] For finding fault with them, He says, "BEHOLD, DAYS ARE COMING, SAYS THE LORD, WHEN I WILL EFFECT A NEW COVENANT WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF JUDAH;

[SUP]9 [/SUP] NOT LIKE THE COVENANT WHICH I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS ON THE DAY WHEN I TOOK THEM BY THE HAND TO LEAD THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT; FOR THEY DID NOT CONTINUE IN MY COVENANT, AND I DID NOT CARE FOR THEM, SAYS THE LORD.

Hi Magenta,

Absolutely, "His rest" (Heb 4:1) is in reference to Gen 2:1-3

Gen 2:1, Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

Gen 2:2, And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

Gen 2:3, And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

This is further evidences in v 4

Heb 4:4,
For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

God bless:rolleyes:

Be honest with us. Do you love Jesus? Jesus wants you to be honest with us. You are free in Christ to observe any day or feast as you choose.

But just answer this one question: It's a yes or no answer.

The Greek says "or a sabbath". The KJV puts "days" in italics.
Μὴ οὖν τις ὑμᾶς κρινέτω ἐν βρώσει ἢ ἐν πόσει ἢ ἐν μέρει ἑορτῆς ἢ νουμηνίας ἢ σαββάτων·

There is not a single English translation which says "on one of the Sabbaths". They either say "the sabbath day" or "a sabbath day", "a sabbath", or "the sabbaths".

In any event, the import of that verse is that THE SABBATH DAYS WERE SHADOWS, And that the reality is Christ Himself.

I agree that the Sabbath is a shadow. One can celebrate the day or not.

But what I was pointing out is that the real interpretation is incorrect. In greek it reads, "kata mian sabbaton".

Some commentaries say it should read "upon one Sabbath". Other commentaries say, "on one of the Sabbaths". The word week shouldn't be there. In fact there's no word for week in greek. The word day was also added by translators.

It just seems like there was a push to downplay the Sabbath.

Acts 15

... some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”

6
The apostles and elders met to consider this question.

7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.

8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.

9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.

10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear?

11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”

Hi Desertrose,

I found what you said in this post very interesting for my own studies. Can you supply some references to your thoughts above? I would love you have a general friendly discussion with you about it if you have some time?

Also if you have some time I would like your thoughts on what I have posted to Nehemiah above in post 2182 with attached links
in that same post in regards to the ceremonial laws of Moses (e.g. annual Shadow Sabbaths connected to New Moons, Feast days with burnt offerings with food and drink offerings etc) in Col 2.

God bless and thanks for sharing

Absolutely Magenta,

Great post. We are no longer under the ceremonial laws of Moses. They were Shadows that pointed to the plan of salvation and to Jesus and were nailed to the cross. God's Law (10 commandments) however are the foundation of the Old and New Covenants and the Judgement to come. They point out sin. (1John 3:4) and the wages of it (Rom 6:23)

God bless you

The law includes the 10 commandments, since Jesus said love fulfills all the law (and all the prophets), which Paul explained, love does no harm to another, which makes no sense if it were just the 613. God bless you as well.

Hi Magenta,

If that was the case please show me your scriptures to prove it. Here are some scriptures showing the difference between God's Law (10 commandments) and the laws of Moses. Maybe you have not seen these as they are very interesting.

God’s Law (10 commandments) had a similar (not same) role is it did in the Old Testament as it does in the New and that is;

(1) The first is God's Law (10 commandments). This is the work of God alone. God wrote it with his own finger or two tables of stone. God spoke it himself personally to His people for all to hear. God separated His Law from all the laws written in the book of Moses and placed it in the Ark of the Covenant. The purpose of God's Law; was to point out sin and the penalty of sin (death). It was never a cure for sin just like it is in the New Covenant. It is the foundation of the Old Covenant and the New Covenant and the very foundation of the Judgement that each one of us will be judged by in the last days. God's Law is forever.

Scripture proof:

Ex 32:16;
Ex 31:18; 31:18; Ex 20:1-22; Deut 10:5; Rom 3:20; 1John 3:4; Rom 6:23; Heb 7:19; Ecc 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1John 3:4, Acts 17:31; Ps 111:7-8; Rev 12:17; 14:12; 22:14; 1John 3:5-8; 1John 2:3-4; Ecc 3:14

(2)
On the other hand we have the laws of Moses (civil, Levitical and ceremonial and health laws). These laws were the work of Moses. They were written by Moses as he was inspired by God for God's people under the Old Covenant. Moses wrote all these laws in a book. the laws of Moses were spoken by Moses. The book of Moses was placed in the side of the Ark of the Covenant and separated from God's Law. The purpose of the laws of Moses; was to describe God's plan of salvation from sin. The purpose of the laws of Moses was to provide a cure for sin through animal sacrifices, food and drink offerings, annual feast days connected to New Moons etc. The laws of Moses where a shadow of things to come that finished at the cross.

Scripture proof:
Lev 1:1-13; Lev 23:1-44; Num 28:1-31; 29:1-40; Deut 24:10-11;
Ex 24:3; Deut 31:24-26; Col 2:16-16; Heb 10:1; Eph 2:14-15; Lev 4; 5; 6; Heb 4:14; 9;10; John 1:29

The Law of God (10 commandments) is the work of God himself (Ex 32:16; Ex 31:18; 32:16; Ex 20:1-22; Ex 31:18; Deut 4:13)God Law was to be separate from everything else (including the laws of Moses). God’s Law was placed inside the Ark of the Covenant the laws of Moses were written in a book and placed at the side of the Ark of the Covenant (Deut 10:5; Deut 31:24; 25). Whatsoever God does is forever nothing can be added to it or taken away (Ecc 3:14). God's Law is perfect converting the soul (Ps 19:7). It is the very foundation of the Old and New Covenants (Ex 20:1:17, Heb 8:10-12). It is the foundation of the Judgement were all of us will be Judged in the last days (Ecc 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1John 3:4, Acts 17:31) God's Law was spoken by God himself to His people (Ex 20:1-22). Jesus says Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away (Matt 25:35). Gods Law is still in force today (Ps 111:7-8, Rev 12:17, 14:12, 22:14, 1John 3:5-8, 1John 2:3-4 etc.). The Law of God reveals sin to us so we can see ourselves as we truly are sinners in need of a Saviour (Rom 3:20; 1John 3:4). It is the great standard of the judgement (Ecc 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1John 3:4, Acts 17:31). God's Law is our teacher revealing sin and the character of God and brings us to Christ at the foot of the cross that we might be saved by faith by Him who loves us and washed us in His own blood (Gal 3:24; Rev 1:5). God writes His Law in our hearts so that we become like him and we follow him because we love him (Heb 8:10-12; ) LOVE is the fulfilling (doing) of God's Law (Rom 13:10). Still in force today (Ps 111:7-8, Rev 12:17, 14:12, 22:14, 1John 3:5-8, 1John 2:3-4 etc, etc.) God’s people obey it through faith (Rev 14:12)

More scripture proof that God's Law is different to the ceremonial laws of Moses (post links):

God's Law and the laws of Moses (1)
God's Law and the laws of Moses (2)

God's Law and the laws of Moses (3)

Please feel free to share your scripture proof for what you are saying. Love is indeed the fulfillment of God's Law in us who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit (Rom 8:1-4)

Hope this is helpful

Jesus said so. He said ALL the law. That includes the 10 commandments. I take His word for it, not your interpretation accompanied with a wall of prefab text, no matter how many verses you try to use to erase what JESUS said. The 613 do not reveal our sin, the ten do. You defeat your own argument with some of your logical fallacies, which are not helpful.

Dear Magenta,

Our opinions do not really mean much to anyone. Only God's Word is true. If you have some to share I am sure we can have a nice discussion. But if you do not then why do you not believe the Word of God? I believe Jesus and I love him so I must follow Him. Do you love Jesus? Jesus says "If you love me keep my commandments." Closing our eyes to God's Word does not make it go away.

God bless you:)

Acts 15

... some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”

AMEN.....no sense in being entangled AGAIN with the yoke of bondage.....we have been set free and when JESUS has set us free, we are free indeed.....

Jesus said all the law and all the prophets were fulfilled by love. Do you not believe this? I am repeating myself but you talk to me as if what I say is not Scripture. Do you need chapter and verse? Paul said love does no harm to others. Do you need chapter and verse for that as well? I mean, I have mentioned these, and talked about them as if they are from the Bible, but you act like I am just giving my opinion. You misrepresented someone else earlier too in this very thread, saying they gave no Scriptural references when they did. Is that a habit with you?
