“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
“Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Are these not all characteristics of the new man, the one born of the Spirit. I remember in a study a few years ago, that is what we were taught.

What do you guys think?
Many view the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes as just moral duty....not so, Jesus was prophesying what the new man would be here and in spades...nice catch...many miss this....

Pretty green star on your paper...

Abide in Me reminds me to always CLING , to hold on with both hands and not let let go...Abide is to trust, lean and rely, just as Jjesus said...We should abide with everything we got for our dear pathetic life`s...xox...Just said pathetic because that is what we are if we do not abide in Him...xox...
To abide is to to become one with him....or to "know" him....

Look at what Peter tells us to add to our faith with all diligence (haste).

2 Peter 1:1-11

Vs 1-4
Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

Vs 5-11
Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.

God has done His work in verses 1-4.
And for that reason we are to grow in faith by supplying to our faith with all haste moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.

God has given them to us and blessed us beyond measure, but we must live out this life of faith now by applying the fruit of the Spirt to our walk. We have every characteristic of the Holy Spirit, they are within us through the new birth.

And now our work is to bring them forth to add the Spirit's fruit to our faith. Faith is active, it's growth in the true knowledge of God and Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. It's what we walk in......we walk in moral excellence, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love.

This venue is a great way to supply the fruit of the Spirit to our faith. As we abide in Christ, these will come forth in our life as we grow in the true knowledge of God.

Sin hardens the heart, it doesn't humble it, at some point the heart can become so hardened it can no longer repent...... a very scary condition indeed,
Hi Willybob...I believe that also...We fall into sin then we repent, but those that fall deeper, their hearts get a harden on the corner, so when they sin again, the sin does not feel so bad so it hardens again and so on to the point that their conscience is seared...It`s a terrible thing to fall into the wrath of our Father...xox...

This is known as becoming a partaker in the divine nature....Vs 4 above says so....

To understand this truth, one must understand they were purged/purified from their old sins and are a new creation in Christ Jesus....

You cannot partake of the divine nature and grow in these qualities if they view themselves as the old man.....

This is why I state at conversion you are no longer a sinner saved by grace, but a sin-forgiven saint that will still sin...This passage show us this and in spades....you cannot have the old man and new man fighting it out...you are one or the other...light or darkness, good or evil, bitter or sweet....righteous or wicked.....not both.

Sin hardens the heart, it doesn't humble it, at some point the heart can become so hardened it can no longer repent...... a very scary condition indeed,
Heb 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

The Bible warns the brethren to not depart from the living God,by being hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

But it does not matter the warnings in the Bible to some people, which there would not be warnings if it were not possible for that to happen if people do not take heed to do what is right.

Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

God speaks concerning the Jews in the Old Testament that was given to the nation of Israel, that if they did not abide in the truth, they would be cut off,and warns the saints that if they do not continue in God's goodness they will be cut off.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

1Co 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

Everyone that names the name of Christ has to depart from iniquity, but some do not have the knowledge of God.

The Old Testament was given to the nation of Israel, and they had to abide by it whether they liked it or not,and if they did not abide by that covenant, then they were cut off from the promises.

The Jews had no choice, but to abide by that covenant.

Act 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Act 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Rom 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Rom 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

God commands all people everywhere to repent.

The New Testament is given to the world, and they have to abide by it whether they like it or not,and anybody that does not abide by it will be cut off from the promises.

Whether they claim to be with Christ,or not, that New Covenant means abstaining from sin by the Holy Spirit, for God will judge the world by the man Christ Jesus, who by the Holy Spirit abstained from sin,and that same power is available for the world to receive, and be like the man Christ Jesus.

This sin does not affect our relationship with God does not fly,for that is what the New Testament is about, abstaining from sin by the Spirit, and that is why Jesus came so our sins could be washed away, and we could receive the Spirit, and be like the man Christ Jesus.

That is the New Testament, and all those who confess Jesus has to depart from iniquity, and if not they are of the world.

Confessing Christ does not count if you do not want to be Christlike, and we know how Jesus behaved while on earth,so we have to do the same.

I agree, the old man is laid to rest, God does not see us as sinners, I mean He's not blind to our sin, but he sees it as forgiven. We are Saints that sin.
I do believe however that we are at odds with our flesh, as we still carry it with us. I'm not sure if our old man and our flesh are the same?

ONCE I ACCEPTED IT !

THE QUESTION IS:

HOW does Jesus' Death do anything for a person WHO DIES UNSAVED.

The point is that Jesus' Death did nothing for the unsaved.
Because I had said that His Death was wasted on the unsaved.
How was it NOT wasted? What good did it do for the UNSAVED through till Death.
agree; Paul said that those who continue in sin receive the Lord's grace in vain. (the blood that was able to send the Spirit of grace was wasted in the vanity of pride and sin of the rebellious) ....God loves sinners so much that He will send them to hell for eternity, lest they reason together with Him, repent and forsake their ways....

Gee, if this site reflects the real church at all, there's only a small real number of us, & we're outnumbered at over 20 to 1, outnumbering us even more in resources.

There's nothing plenteous about our number.

What we do have plenty of is the very thing you keep claiming in vain to have: grace.

That's right..... and it's your group's fault.

Note the scripture:

Romans 5
20The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,21so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

When sin abounds around us, God's grace abounds even more. It always does.

So, when sin surrounds me to fight me, & sin works behind my back with words of flattery to deceive me, more grace is at my disposal.

God's grace is always sufficient for me regardless of the traps Satan sets for me.

And there's nothing you can do about it.:D
Also, I would suppose Noah was outnumbered probably a million to one. Its a good thing strength in numbers prevails not....

There is no strength in numbers here WB, we as true believers are the minority, we are outnumbered by the world. Not by each other.

That's a great question. The old man that has died with Christ on the cross is not the same as the flesh.

Here is what I have found that scripture has said about "the flesh".

The term "flesh" is used 3 different ways in the NT.

1) the carnal ways of thinking and actions left over from the prior manner of living from the old man which has been crucified with Christ on the cross ( Gal. 2:20; Romans 6:6 ) - this is where renewing our minds to the new creation in Christ in our inner man comes in ( Eph. 4:24 and many others like Galatians 5:19 )

2) it is used when talking about self-effort ( Romans 4:1-6 ; Phil. 3:3-9 )

3)and sometimes it just means the "fleshly-meat - the body" itself ( many places in scripture it is used in this manner)

Context will determine which "flesh" is being spoken of in the scripture.

The body itself is not evil - just what is in it - namely the flesh and the law of sin which functions like a parasite in the flesh ( Romans 7: 17-22 ). Jesus had a natural body too and it was not evil.

I love this subject. The understanding of this has helped me immensely to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.

I believe that "sin" - the noun - not having dominion over us ( Rom. 6:14 ) is referring to the sin that is in the flesh not having dominion because we are in the spirit in Christ and not in the flesh.

I look at "sinning" ( the action ) as a response to the deceitfulness of sin - the noun ( that which is still in our flesh ) if we yield to the lie that the sin in our flesh is saying to us. Kind of like cause and effect - that is if we believe the lie of sin that speaks to us.

I too believe that the more we get a revelation that we are not in the flesh but really in the spirit because the real us is in Christ - the new creation - then "the influence" of sin loses it's power because of walking by the Spirit which is all based on the grace of Christ alone.

It's the influence of sin in our flesh that deceives us into doing the action of sinning. That is what I see in "sin shall not have dominion over us".

Romans 8:9-10 (NASB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

[SUP]10 [/SUP] If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Galatians 5:16 (NASB)
[SUP]16 [/SUP] But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

The flesh ( which are the ways and old habits of getting things from the world instead of through faith in Christ ) and the law/principle of sin ( Romans 7:23 ) work together in cohoots.

They know what works on us individually. For example: If in the past we are trying in our own fleshly ways to get love by having sex with others. Then the power of sin will inflame that desire in us to be with other people.

If we have a problem with pride - then the power of sin will use that to influence us to think that we are the beginning and end of all things... If we think lowly of ourselves then the power of sin will use that to say we are worthless.

Each of us have our own unique fleshly ways of trying to find life from the world's belief system instead of through Christ's life that is in us. This brings death but walking by the spirit brings life and peace through the Lord Jesus Christ's finished work alone.

One more post to look at some things about the flesh and the law of sin.

This should help to know the difference between"sin" - the noun used in Romans 6:14 "sin shall not have dominion over you" and "sinning" the verb which is the action of sinning.

In order to understand Romans 6-7 ( and then finally chapter 8 where the Spirit comes in ) we need to understand the difference between "sin" and
"sinning".

Not knowing this leads to all kinds of doctrines like this "sinless perfection in the flesh" or "we must do good works in order to keep saved" ones that some try to promote.

These doctrines will upset the faith of the young Christian and really in the end promote turmoil in their minds and ship-wreck their faith.

This will also create a works-righteousness mindset instead of a faith-righteousness one that is completely fixed on Christ's completed work for the believer.

We will always have the flesh with us and anyone that says they never are "sinning" have a very low opinion of the holiness of God and are only thinking of the "biggie sins" which they don't do and not including things like outbursts of anger, malice, slandering others in the body of Christ, causing strife and divisions..etc.

Malice and slander and things like these ( Gal. 5:21 ) are just as destructive as living a homosexual lifestyle.

There is a difference between sin the noun and sinning the verb. Set free from sin does not mean set free from sinning entirely the rest of one's life.

Sin the noun has been quarantined in the flesh which is why the Holy Spirit circumcised our hearts ( where He lives and is joined as one in the spirit with us) from the body of flesh.

Romans chapter 6 and 7 uses the noun "sin" 48x times ( which speaks of the law of sin that is in our flesh ) and only once as the verb which is the action of "sinning".

Here is what Vine's describes this "law of sin" that is in the flesh - acting through the members of our body when we yield to it.

"a governing principle or power, e.g., Rom. 6:6; "(the body) of sin," here "sin" is spoken of as an organized power, acting through the members of the body, "

Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.

The set free from sin (the noun ) is relating to not having to be subject anymore to the flesh because we have been sealed in our spirit in our inner man in Christ. - the new creation in Him.

The law of sin is in the flesh and will be there until we leave this earth. Romans 7:19-22. which is where we are not "in the flesh" as Paul says in Romans 8:9 : BUT "in the Spirit".

Colossians 2:11 (NASB)
[SUP]11 [/SUP] and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands,inthe removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;

Now we are to walk by the Spirit so that we will not fulfill the flesh to do "its" desires. Romans 6:13

As our minds get renewed to the truth of Christ and what He has already done for us - the Holy Spirit transforms us and we live a holier life. This is all God's work but we participate in it with Him. ( sometimes this is also called the saving of the soul which the mind is a part of )

sorry for the misspost Limey, anyway did you know that all of Noah's brothers and sisters died in the flood?
