I wear makeup when I feel like wearing makeup. Personally I like minimal.

I don't go for the whole Tammy Faye thing...that's not enhancing anything. I've heard that a woman is beautiful with and without. Truly I guess makeup or no makeup should be left in the eye of the beholder...me.

Makeup doesn't bother me. I like when a girl puts in the effort. I don't know how any of it's done xD but lips, eyes, nails, etc. I'm about it. It looks good if done right.

I wear eyeliner, mascara and lipstick. I quit using foundation or concealer to cover my freckles cause it didnt work anyway.

I usually wear makeup, mainly because I have scars and rosacea that I like to have evened out and makeup is the perfect fix. Although, this last month I haven't felt the need to wear makeup and went to work without wearing any. I consider myself pretty low maintenance and desire to enjoy life for the way God created it to be including me

I must confess that I very much prefer a woman with makeup, especially eye makeup.

My wife rarely wears make-up and even then, very little. I love her just the way she is. There is nothing biblically wrong about a woman wearing make-up.

I always wear light makeup to work, usually even less makeup to church and other places. If I'm just running errands, shopping, etc, I usually don't wear makeup at all and I feel "free" when I don't!

People who are so used to seeing me with makeup would also give me the "Are you okay?" line if they see me without makeup and they'd be so surprised that my almost unnoticeable makeup actually makes such a difference!!!

I like me better with makeup especially that I usually don't get enough sleep so I always have black under my eyes and makeup is a good way to cover it!

Every once in a while, I feel like wearing more makeup and I get positive comments from people. However, it doesn't encourage or pressure me to wear heavy makeup more often.

It doesn't matter much, but I tend to prefer no makeup. Sometimes it can be correlated with confidence and good priorities (please don't read too much into that comment).

I have heard some say that guys like girls who are pretty without makeup when I have mentioned that I didn't love makeup to Christian friends who are girls (it wasn't directly aimed at me)... So I'm not 100% sure whether that is just me being idealistic, where if I didn't notice the makeup it might be different.

*shrug*

For the guys, and YES we are going to be slightly SHALLOW here for a minute because I know, I know "It's the personality that counts, Rachel." Cool, yes, yes it does. Looks play some factor though, so let's just play along, mkay? Do you truly like a girl best when she isn't wearing makeup? Why? Does makeup ever bother you if she does wear it or she enjoys wearing it?

The full answer:

It's not so much "makeup vs. no makeup," it's just a matter of being genuine. If a girl likes it for herself, then it's almost always attractive - if she's wearing it to copy someone or appear like something she's not, then it's easy to see through. I'm attracted to self-expression, and this usually means natural "plain" looks because that's the most real and genuine. Style in general reflects a personality type, so it kind of goes hand-in-hand. The most confident/outgoing girls look better with it than without, and the introverts almost always look better without.

The purely physical answer people care about:

It doesn't matter. Vices can change on a weekly basis and "the girl" is going to be pretty covered in mud or straight from a magazine (rare). You can't convince a guy to think you are beautiful, and you can't make him think you're ugly because he's already decided within the first 2 seconds. No amount or lack of makeup will change your status, only enhance/diminish it. That being said, goth is an improvement 100% of the time (JK... but only a little).

I have very few. Not more than 5. I happen to LOVE one of them and wouldn't cover it..

His post is dreamy, I never would say otherwise
No...but you have a few...and you have to admit...that what he said was goose bumpy ;) at least I thought so :)

A few responses in the Aging thread made me curious. I saw several responses about how the guy likes the girl in their "natural state" (face/hair wise), and I've heard a few comments outside the online world from men (in general) about how they like seeing their girl first thing in the morning pre-makeup, or post-shower, etc.

Yet, society/media/culture leads women to believe that they need makeup to be pretty and to look professional and put together. Many things guys consider "hot" are smoky eyes, thick lashes, red lips, etc. (amongst provocative poses, I suppose) Is this all just a ploy to get women to buy makeup products?? Have I just been listening to the wrong males - are they the immature ones only? I guess I wouldn't be surprised at either.

I wear makeup every day to work. Sometimes very minimal, sometimes not. Even if it's not minimal, I never spend much time on it. I just know that if I didn't wear any, I'd get the "Are you okay? You look tired." Or, "Whoa, when did we hire a 13 year old boy to work here?" I kid (kind of). I like getting creative with it because I am a creative person and I've worn some pretty wild stuff (though not to work), but I also feel comfortable without it, unless I'm already feeling self-conscious.

Ladies, do you feel like makeup is "expected" of you? At work, going out, from men, in general? Do you like wearing makeup? How do you feel going out (or even staying in) without it?

This thread is NOT:
- A place to shame ladies for wearing, or enjoying wearing, makeup
- A place to shame guys for liking women who dress up/wear makeup
- A place for holier-than-thous to come in and say that makeup is un-Biblical. for whatever reason If you want to have that discussion, take it over to the Bible forum.

I see it this way. There are, in this arena, two types of males generally. The dogs and the men.
The dogs are the ones running things that dictate how women 'should' look, the things you're saying you see. Often times these types are the macho, notches on a bed post type that view women as sexual conquests. Many are outgoing and outspoken, and it creates this sense that this is all men.
Then there are actual men, not horny dogs, that don't hold such views and are interested in more than bagging as many womb as possible. They typically are less outspoken and not interested in dictating what a woman should be, hence a lack of them in the advertising industry. These are the guys that like women for who they are.
This example was very broad and general just to make a point.

So I'd say how you present yourself tells men what kind of woman you are, which determines what kind of man you attract.

I say ignore the fashion industry, the women's magazines and anyone telling you what you have to be to attract a man, or just to be a woman.

Step back and look at the caliber of people known to be in such industries. The women in charge often push for women to be trashy, self absorbed and shallow while pretending to be deep. Countless flamboyant, over the top gays. And straight men that view women as points to earn.

I could go on, but i think its pretty clear.
Ultimately just be you. Forget what others say you should be.

I'm going to both agree and disagree whilst noting that you said it was a broad and general example. I think that rather than binary types of men, there is a chart sort of like a Punnet Square, but instead of hard categories it's a spectrum. I also don't think it's men dictating as much as it is women trying to one up each other and gain an advantage in the "sexual marketplace". Of course this means that they play right into what men want, but I don't think it's necessarily an imposition.

And while I agree that how you present yourself tells others what kind of person you are, in reference to this thread I don't think that the decision to wear or not to wear makeup says anything about sexual promiscuity.

It's at this point that I'd like to note that you may disagree with my disagreeing position. At that point it would be considered a disagreement which, some might find disagreeable to a degree, but I find amicable disagreements to be rather enjoyable. Wouldn't you agree?
