How far would you put yourself on conservative/liberal scale from 1 to 10.

1 being "women are to cover their heads in church" and 10 being "my church has a gay polygamist preacher"

I put myself at a 3.

I think I'll put myself at "I don't give a thing since I'm not American" out of 10.

...Buuuut unfunny jokes aside, I think about...a 5.

I don't make a habit of predicting trouble... but I think there will be trouble in the near future. This thread gonna have more arguments than the Not By Works thread.

I'm not disparaging you, Innerfire89, but I know some people on this forum and I can already predict what they're going to start arguing about.

Of course I could be wrong. I'm wrong sometimes, and sometimes I don't mind being wrong and this time I really hope I'm wrong.

Uhhh thats hard to say. I consider myself to be like moderate right, so I guess a 4? Maybe 3, but simplifying your political views to a number between one and ten is kinda confusing : p

That's a very interesting thought provoking question. I would rate myself at a 6.

Oh classic question.

Maybe a 3 or so, though could depend on the specific issue.

Hmm, what base are we rating from, the Christian viewpoint or the world's viewpoint? Also, are we talking about politics or our faith, because those aren't necessarily the same score.

Politics:
I struggle with this actually, because if it were up to me, the government would have as little to do with our personal lives as possible. In direct opposition to that, if I'm going to vote, for example, on abortion, I'm not going to condone it with my vote. Which ends up with the government telling people what they can and can't do. I'm a political hypocrite. Of course, if the government truly had no involvement we wouldn't be funding abortions in the first place and this discussion would be different.

The same goes for gay marriage. If you want to be gay and married it's not going to hurt my feelings. You're no worse a sinner than anyone else, but I'm not going to implicitly approve of it with my vote.

All in all I guess this means I'm fairly conservative, but I've got some out there views as well, like all drugs should be legalized, taxed, and regulated with a portion of the taxes going to recovery programs. Put me down for a 5.

Faith:

I am fairly conservative here, especially since I believe in the infallible truth of the bible and the complete sovereignty of God. ;) I don't believe women should be preachers and I'm not sure where I stand on other forms of female leadership. I believe church discipline should be practiced. Carefully, but it should. On the other hand, the body of Christ are not the people who go into buildings we call churches. Sure, many of them are, but not all of them and some of them never step foot into a "church". I have tons of problems with what "The Church" has become. I think that the world is right to generalize us as a whole as hypocrites. Not because we are Christian and sin, but because when you look at the way the Bible says to live and be and look at the way we live and are it's not even close. I'll rate myself at a 3.

I guess that it would be fair to say that I am a fiscally conservative Republican who is leaning socially moderate as far as treating people fairly and equally.

There's definitely a big difference between politics and theology.

Theology is a 3. Politics it really depends on the issue.

I'm opposed to the classic Christian things, but I think you Americans are nuts for not having universal healthcare.

Can't really rate myself on church issues because there's too many. On doctrine probably a 1, but on operation probably 7-9. Your example was an operation issue to me. Doctrine would be sola scriptura and deity of Christ, etc. But it's still hard to gauge these things with a simple number, because the opposite of burkas is not gay preachers.

I was addressing faith more than political standpoints, but to a certain degree one reflects the other.

I had the same thought as you for awhile on the gay marriage deal, but now I see it as that our laws should govern if they have the right to marry and our laws should be modeled after the absolute truth Scripture.

I've never thought about it. Probably somewhere in the middle though I suppose. I tend to look at the extreme ends of scales as not right for me and the central area as giving me room to consider options.

I gotta ask, who on the right is claiming we shouldnt treat people fairly and equally?

I thought I was conservative, but can't say I think all women should cover their heads. Only when they are lead to do so by the Spirit to humble themselves that way. Otherwise it would be legalistic. 2.5???

I would like to respond to this thread without having to analyze the question in the OP, but I can't. I'm a natural analyst, and when I see a question that inherently skews the responses, I balk.

Which reminds me of something which I'll post in Streams...

I mean I don't think women should cover their heads and wear skirts all the time...but I don't think they should lead either. As far as men go, they should be the main provider financially, emotionally and spiritually. He should lead the household and what he says is what will be done. That's why women ought to really look at who they marry. I believe they have to submit to him. But the husbands should submit to God.

I'm not saying that the wife shouldn't submit to God. What I'm saying is that because the husband is depended on for so much by his family, he REALLY needs to have an intimate relationship with God in order to lead successfully.
