Does the Holy Spirit convict the born again believer of sin?

Amen...we are all learning how to live by the life of Another in us!

Now we see through a glass darkly and we only know things in part. We are learning how to manifest the life of Christ that is in our inner man of the heart - the new creation in Him. We have to work through these brains and un-renewed minds to the truths of Christ's work accomplished for us.

I love to say this about the Lord. "He will be caught in the act of being Himself and He will be faithful to all of us!"
 
For the record, I have never heard either Ellis, or Prince speak, not one tiny word. So when you speak of these people I know nothing about them.

you have stated He taught the law

Paul indicates he taught the gospel

scripture has been posted several times now

when reading those scriptures...please, what did Jesus teach?

there is only one answer and it is straight from the Bible

Bad news, Adam, sin and death
Good news, Jesus, forgiveness of sin and life, everlasting. That is the Gospel. He Himself is the good news. What He accomplished by His death is the good news.
Jesus taught under the law and was bringing the lost people of Israel back to it, to show how utterly impossible it was to gain rightousness through it, and they, if they accept Him as the Messiah, will then turn to His Grace and Mercy for the renewal of life because of His sacrifice.
It's really not that complicated.
 
I hope I can say this right.

I think we need to be careful when talking to people concerning what we have been discussing here.

I remember when I was really struggling with God.
I went to a week multiple church gathering. A bit like Glastonbury but this week was Stonleigh.

There was an alter call and I went forward.

The person assigned to me as such asked the question "What's the problem"
I replied "I feel so distant from God, don't feel he loves me"

He asked me "Do you pray in tongues, to which I said no"

This was his response "Oh you don't pray in tongues, you obviously have not been baptised in the Holy Spirit, if not the You don't have the Holy Spirit in you, have you considered you are not actually saved"

He then asked me "Can I pray for you to speak in tongues and I said yes"

It didn't happen

So what is the consequences of this conversation?

I walk away, shattered and questioning my salvation, thinking it's a sin because I don't pray in tongues, therefore I am not forgiven until I do and if I die before I do where am I going?

I carried that for 20 years.

We need to be very very careful when coming alongside people.

Meggido I am going to mention you here. Having read your posts I am sure you would have said something along the lines of "Do you know God loves you as much as he loves Jesus, now let's see what's behind the scenes"

In fact the majority of the people that I have conversed with on this site would say the same.

Dcon, PeterJ, G777, Stones, EG, and the list could go on and on.

May the Holy Spirit work in is rather than us taking over from the Holy Spirit.

The law was already showing them the need for the savior and had been...this is why the people responded to him and not the law and why the pharisees and others of the Law wanted to kill him....

There is one thing that you ought to think about here....If Jesus was bringing people back to the law to show them the need for him as savior through the law, he would have never had to tell those he healed to go show themselves to the priest.....he would have also never had to defend his disciples....

Be careful here my man....Jesus was not preaching the law...he said himself he was preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom...the Gospel of the kingdom is not redirecting people back to the law to see their need for a savior...

Jesus was under the law, but never preached the law...he came to give them life and life more abundantly....he did not come to steal, kill or destroy them any longer....

Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Believe Matt 5.18 refers to himself being the complete fulfillment of the law...not the law itself...

Lets add Vs 17 and 20 to the before and after of Vs 18-19

[SUP]17 [/SUP]“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.<<<<<Christ was the perfect fulfillment of the law....

[SUP]20 [/SUP]“For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven<<<<<<<gotta put on the righteousness of Christ not the self-righteousness of the law.....

Matt 7.28
[SUP]28 [/SUP]When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; [SUP]29 [/SUP]for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

These words were Matthew chapters 5-7

That's the whole law.

Gal 5:3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

Under Pharisaical Judaism they believed that they had figured it out, the Pharisees believed that they could fully obtain righteousness through the law. They were not by any means in doubt of their righteousness. The law was the way. Jesus came to show them otherwise. That is why the Pharisees hated Him so much.

I agree. Good post.

Jesus spoke the law to those that needed to be exposed for their self-reliance on their self-righteousness. The law condemns the best of us.

Jesus actually elevated to Law when He said "You have heard it said - you shall not commit adultery - but "I say" to you - if you have lust - you have committed adultery."

I call it Moses 2.0 - if you will....:)..

Jesus also spoke the kingdom of God too to those that needed the grace of God and knew they needed a Savior.

The genius of Jesus is that His words brought was needed for each person that He spoke with. He spoke "life" to those that needed it and knew they needed Him. He also spoke words that revealed the darkness that was in the self-righteous.

We need to learn not to take medicine that was for someone else. For example - we don't call our brethren "vipers and snakes" like Jesus did to the self-righteous religious Pharisees and Sadducees and scribes of the law.

All of scripture is useful for us especially the words of Jesus but we need to filter all scripture through the finished work of Christ on the cross and resurrection and in what He has accomplished in the establishment of the New Covenant in His blood.

Galatians 4:4-5 (NASB)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

[SUP]5 [/SUP] so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Did the Pharisees practice Mosaic Law?
 
Phil 3:4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

Phil 3:5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

Phil 3:6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

Phil 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Example, The law of Moses taught that you could not harvest on the Sabbath, Pharisaical Judaism went one step further, and said you cannot walk through the grass on the Sabbath, just in case your hand accidentally plucked a head of wheat.

I think they thought they did but Jesus said that they were white-washed tombs full of dead men's bones.

I have asked you before but I don't see where you have answered but I may have missed it too because I don't see all the posts - you started in May 2017 on CC - were you on CC before as another name? If so what was it?

I loved it when Jesus allowed his disciples to pick it on the Sabbath...........and the fact that he ate with sinners, publicans, whores etc........the fact he drank and was called a winebibber........Jesus said.....I sent John (a hard line straight as an arrow in your face) prophet and then I came eating, drinking etc......and no matter who I send you will not dance.............some people will ride the proverbial train straight to hell while rejecting the truth no matter how it is presented and or given while refusing to acknowledge simple truth that will set them free......

Not saying this is the case, but reminds me of Jesus questioning the Pharisees about John and who he was from......
