As if the storm itself isn't bad enough. After the storm you have to try to exist in hot, buggy, humid air with no electricity for who knows how long, and standing in the Red Cross line everyday for your food and water with everybody else. That's why I moved out of Florida. Did not want that to ever happen to me. Saw it happening over and over again and knew it was just a matter of time before it was my turn to endure that kind of crisis.

Haven't read much about it, but I keep hearing from people about how this is a record setter. 'Epic' I think is the term we use for these kinds of things. We seem to have went back to sleep after all the hurricanes of the late '90s and early '00s. Not me, though. I moved north and knew these days would visit us again. And so we see they are upon the U.S. once again. God spare us.

It's bad enough wherever it hits, but seeing that a storm like that may go into the Gulf is terrifying.Current projection (updated a few moments ago) is a Cat 4 direct hit on Florida.

Florida was spared for a time. But, we were told there would be three bad ones this year.
Weather.com said yesterday that Irma was the worst in 10 years. Now I hear ever. Hopefully it will lose strength soon.

So no matter what going to trust Him and do prep that needs to be done and if storm heads this way with high winds move north. Tape up the windows to try and keep glass together and put up things that can fly around.

While the Floridians are bracing for Irma, would you mind praying for Puerto Rico? The nurse in charge of John when he was in rehab was Raphael, and his family still lives there.
BTW, I'm not Floridian, but am keeping up with this because I'm praying for y'all/you guys.
If this is any comfort, some thoughts I'm having:
-- Katrina was a Cat 5 right until it was bearing down on NOLA. Then it became a Cat. 3. (You guys are above sea level.)
-- Katrina caused the average amount of problems in NOLA. (I had a friend living in the French Quarter when it hit. And yes, she and her husband were still living in the French Quarter that night. I will never forget why. They were too poor to leave. She gave me a line I still remember. She said, "No matter what the news says, don't think of this as a black problem. It's a poor problem.") Katrina caused the average amount of problems in NOLA. That they didn't maintain the levies to Lake Pontchartrain for 20 years caused the major problems. (She was flushed out of their home after Katrina passed.) NOLA and Houston have a problem that is part of Florida's problem, but not all of Florida. If you're on higher land, then all you have to worry about is wind and rain damage. (Not saying that's nothing to worry about.) If you're at sea level RUN!!! If you have the means to get out for a week, get out!
-- My cousins/uncle/aunt in MS were a feisty bunch. They lived in Biloxi, (on the Gulf, not inland), and yet refused to leave for every storm, except Katrina. One hurricane caused damage. It knocked down part of their chimney. Doesn't sound too bad, huh? The name of that hurricane was Camille! (For you younger folks, that's the worst hurricane to hit the States since they've been keeping up on this stuff.) Sure enough, decades later, it was a good thing my cousin went inland. Katrina did cause damage too. Knocked out the outer wall of their attached garage. Better yet, termite damage, so it was fixed through insurance.
-- Most of Florida will be affected at some degree. Most of Florida won't be affected badly. Even the places that are affected badly, won't be entire train wrecks. Even if you are in direct path, you may lose some trees, your garden, your chimney, (I'd say your basement, but you don't have one, right?), and flooding, BUT all in all, the vast majority of people make it through with only needing repairs on their homes when they're done. Your state has been preparing for hurricanes since I was kicking inside Mom. You are THE most prepared state in the union for hurricanes. Don't let the hype scare you even more. Be prepared, but remember you're covered by something even the state didn't legislate into action -- God!
-- One day, I lived on a mountain. Without moving out, the next day I lived on an island. That night we found every single container in the house to try and keep up with waterfalls coming out of recess lighting. That wasn't a hurricane. That was Tropical Storm Agnes. The one thing I would have changed had I known then what I learned the next day -- do NOT throw that disgusting water down the drain. We could have used it when ten people had no indoor plumbing for a week. (Nothing to flush the toilets with.
)
I've gone through a lot of things in my life. There was a long moment when I saw what the end of life looks like. I've learned two things that will help you:
1. There is NO end of life! Yes, we're going to die, but that's not the end of life. That's a new beginning. We're always home, it's just what "home" can mean changes.
2. God always, always, always does the best for his people. Always! Even when it doesn't feel like it, it is still the best! He promised! And out of all that happens, you cannot lose the important stuff. You cannot lose "home," and you cannot lose God! The rest? The rest is just stuff!
BTW, that friend in NOLA? We became friends because we have something in common -- teddy bears. She had even more stuffies than I do, and she had to leave quickly. (I'm being literal when I said they were flushed out of their home.) She was in her pajamas brushing her teeth when the lake entered their first floor apartment, when she opened her bathroom door, a stuffed chair was floating to her. She had a cloth bag where she shoved what was most important at that moment -- a cellphone, a laptop, a bag of cookies, a bottle of water, and her two favorite teddy bears.
Three weeks later, she was settled into Los Angeles for a while. (Estranged daughter lives there.) I contacted Build-a-Bear to see if they'd do a favor. They did. Here is a picture of those two bears with their first clothes after the storm.
They're home now. Back in NOLA.
There is always after the storm too.

The path is a Cross. Not sure how current this is but was on my Facebook. It comforts me.
Uh..................... The Cross was an instrument of torturous death that the Romans murdered Christ with. It is not an omen to use to protect us from hurricanes... or even vampires.

Garlic is still a deterrent and the wooden stake through the heart remains the only known effective technique to slay a vampire. I know that this is true 'cause it's on the internet.
Tourist, JesusLives, and Willie-T as I look at current possible trajectories for this storm it seems that nowhere in Florida is guaranteed safety since some projections that I've seen have it coming right up the middle of the state, some up the eastern seaboard, others up the west.

Thank you prayers always welcomed. The state is so big, so many people roads crowded, some gas stations empty. If you are poor you can only go as far as a tank of gas and no guarantee of a place to stay when you run out so home is better than a car in a hurricane. We have two floors so just keep moving up and pray the roof stays on. God is in control no matter what.
