This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Of course, I live on the gulf coast of Florida in the Tampa - St. Petersburg area and the hurricane strikes tomorrow. Maybe I'll rejoice when the electricity is restore and the facets in the sink work and the toilets flush. It's the little things that count.
Praying for you both!

Sorry for my recent disappearance my friends. As much as I'd like to be a part of your daily joys and challenges, and as eager as I am to share with you mine, one of my life-time dreams (may not be that grand for some, tbh, but it means a lot to me lol) is unfolding in front of me and I cannot look away.

I mean, last week was my first week at university! So yeah, with my full-time job and family duties, it's a little challenging to maintain a social life (and by that, I mean, CC). But I'll still come visit my CC family whenever I can, just to say hello, how are you. Also, I still update my blog, at least once a month so you could visit me there as well. (shameless plug!)

I love you all! *e-hugs*

Tomorrow is election date in Norway. It is very close. I am going to vote today. I know Norway is far away, but this election is also important in regards to the relations to NATO and values concerning immigration and gay's demand for assisted pregnancies and adoption. Unfortunately abortion is already a lost cause.

I got my current dog because he was the only one at the shelter who looked like he had a brain in his head. I should have gotten a dumb dog instead. Dan is too smart for his own good.

He figured out when I leave at 8:55am I don't come back until about 5pm. So he's always around the house when I'm home... and he does his raiding of neighbors' trash cans in the midday. Here I am thinking he's a good dog, then I start getting complaints from our neighbors.

Party's over though. I put his electric collar back on. Partly because I don't want my dog causing trouble with the neighbors, and partly perhaps because I hate it when a dog is smarter than I am. :-/

I am not surprised. A dog is clever. And he surely knows what a work interval is. My dog refused to come to work when I taught Afghan kids, but insisted to join when I taught adults. How he knew? The routines are identical.
What I am surprised of is that you can leave your dog outside when you are at work. With no leash or fence. In Norway that is not allowed. I can't even walk my dog without leash from March through September. Even in the woods. Hunting starts Sept. 15th, and then dogs can run freely. But... With all those crazy gunmen with bad sight, I wouldn't let my dog run there anyway.
Sceptical to electric collar... It can make the dog nervous. And you don't want that. Whish I could be doggy sitting while you were working. I think Plato would make great company to your Dan. Who could possibly be smarter than Plato???

Nervous? This dog isn't nervous. He's opportunistic, but lazy, but greedy, but chicken, but fat.

The collar is connected to a wireless transmitter. If he goes too far away from the transmitter the collar beeps, and if he keeps going it will buzz him. Not enough to make him jump, but enough to make him unhappy. After he got used to the boundaries, he's back to his old lazy self.

EDIT: One difference is, his dog food consumption is going up. Mostly because now he's not able to get at the neighbors' trash. It's worth it though - the neighbors are unhappy about having to pick up dirty diapers off the yard.

Oh. He is a dog for dirty diapers, too... Plato would be bad company for him.

The collar seems to have developed since the 80s. Anyway. Plato is going to retire soon. In October I will get my new dog, Memo. I am going to miss my toilet roll eating dog.

Actually wireless collars are a relatively new thing. This one runs on a wifi signal (though you can't connect your laptop to it.) Wifi-based systems give a lot more distance for the dog to play in than the older 900mHz transmitters.

Cool. I am not sure if it would be legal here, though. Anyway my yard it fenced, so he can go out freely. Even regarding your dog you are a nerd. I should have guessed.

Has anyone seen the movie "Gone Baby Gone?" I saw it last night and it was really good. Wanted to know what others thought about the decision Cassey Affleck's character makes in the end.

Occasionally it occurs to me that it might, just possibly might be the slightest bit of a trial for my coworkers to put up with me.

Today at work one of the managers said "Hi Isaac, how ya doing?" I replied with a mild giggle like a crazy person might give, indicating moderate insanity. She said something like, "Oh, well then!" and went on her way.

Two and a half minutes later she again said, "Hello Isaac, how ya doing?" Really?
"You already asked that question and I already answered it."
"No I didn't."
"Yes you did. You don't remember?"
"I did not say that!"
"You don't remember my answer?"
"Oh yeah, the creepy little giggle..."

So for the rest of the day at work today I have been walking up to her and saying "Howdy Denise, my name is Isaac" as though we have just met for the first time... or as though one of us has no memory of the other.

After I got done with my job I saw her on my way out. I said, "Howdy Denise, my name is..." (she glared at me) "Uh... mud, my name is mud. Excuse me, I'm just... um... going to get some distance..."

Sometimes I think maybe I should request prayer for my coworkers, that they will be able to find the patience. Then sometimes I think maybe my purpose in life is to teach other people patience.

No joke,

It still feels a little surreal, but life is slowly starting to become normal, to some extent.

Still going to be a lot of people without homes for awhile. The damage was bad. And some of the schools and homes still have water in them. One of the highways, they finally had to drain nearly a week and half after the last of the rains.

Took long enough. :p

How are things down there in Texas?

Yeah, my mom has been down around Corpus Christi for the past week working with Samaritan's Purse.

They got it really bad. Rockport won't even be having school for the rest of the year. Not sure where their kids are going to go.

A coworker shared today that he forgot his wedding anniversary yesterday and is going to make it up tonight.
After hearing that, I couldn't tell if I was in a better spot, not having to worry things like wedding anniversary.
Couldn't really tell and just continued with my work, as if nothing has happened.
