This is just my point. What does the single word, "soon" (or any variation of it your translation might use) mean? Even in the original Greek, there is no way you can stretch it to mean, "2,000 years from now." Yet this is exactly what you guys are swallowing, then you are basing all sorts of wild speculations upon that change you have accepted. Read the word for what it is, and deal with the facts as the book states them.
I mentioned in a previous post that the OT prophets referred to the time period of "the day of the Lord" and that the apostles wrote about the same time period as demonstrated below:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joel 2:31
"The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord"
Rev.6:12-14
"I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Above, we have Joel prophesying of the same event that is defined at the opening of the 6th seal, which has yet to be fulfilled. Below are some more examples:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Isaiah 2:19
"People will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from the fearful presence of the Lord and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth."
Rev.6:15-17
"Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Isaiah 13:10

"The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light."

Matt.24:29
"
Immediately after the distress of those days “ ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' "

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are just a few examples of the OT prophets prophesying about the day of the Lord and the apostles prophesying of the same event. I'm sure that would agree that that the fact that there are hundreds of years between these OT prophesies and those of the apostles and the fact that they are still yet to be fulfilled, would demonstrate that the phrases "is near, is coming, is close at hand, soon to take place, etc.," does not mean within a few weeks, months or years or anything that we can set a date to, but is imminent, always about to happen until it does.
As I also posted earlier, the book of Revelation between chapters 6 thru 18 is a detailed description of this coming "day of the Lord" which will be fulfilled through the seals, trumpets and bowl judgments, as well as the plagues that the two witnesses will bring upon the earth during that time.
If you once believed the day of the Lord and their events of wrath as being future, you ought to go back to them, because what you are believing regarding the events leading up to the end of the age is not the truth.
We can do it all and not just one or the other. By proclaiming the truth of God's word regarding these events, we are serving the body of Christ. Satan has infiltrated the word of God on every Biblical subject in these last days. Unfortunately he has found a foot-hold using believers to pass along these distortions of his word.
Satan has distorted the Word of God from the garden, and it seems that the majority of believers promote the lie at the heart of the fall of all creation... As to not just one or the other, nobody has said otherwise, that I know of, certainly not me :)
You have just proven that it is speaking about the day of the Lord being against Jerusalem in 70 AD.
Because Peter said, "But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel."
Peter is saying that the day of Pentecost is the fulfillment of that prophecy,
And the rest of the passage in Joel 2:32, confirms that it is about Jerusalem.
These are just a few examples of the OT prophets prophesying about the day of the Lord and the apostles prophesying of the same event. I'm sure that would agree that that the fact that there are hundreds of years between these OT prophesies and those of the apostles
This I agree with.
and the fact that they are still yet to be fulfilled,
This I disagree with this.
would demonstrate that the phrases "is near, is coming, is close at hand, soon to take place, etc.," does not mean within a few weeks, months or years or anything that we can set a date to, but is imminent, always about to happen until it does.
Yea, like 2000 years?
The end of the age in Matt 24 is the end of Jerusalem in 70 AD, confirmed by the parallel passage of Lk 21:20-24.
Friends, you don't realize just how close we are to the rap/resur coming and the end of this planet. It may be only months or a few years.
Israel is restored to Jerusalem.
Israel and Jerusalem are surrounded, right now!
The kings of the East (Iran), and the gentile nations (Magog) will soon attack.
The battle of Armageddon is imminent. Israel will lose and Jerusalem will fall.
Then 3 1/2 days later, Jesus comes for the kingdom and this planet is fire.
But it seems that it will only be realized, recognized, at a time very close to the end.
Christians are supposed to understand, and get ready, save souls.
========
I can show you, if you want to know, but the end is bitter, for Israel.
Hello Muzungu256,
Yes! The prophesies of the OT with the phrases "is near, is coming, soon to take place, etc." are used to refer to the coming of the day of the Lord. Below are some examples:
"See, the day of the Lord is coming—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light." - Isa.13:9-10, Matt.24:29
"Alas for that day! For the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. - Joel 1:15
"Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand—a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness." - Joel 2:1-2
"Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.The sun and moon will be darkened, and the stars no longer shine." - Joel 3:14
"Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the Lord is near." -Zephaniah 1:7
"The great day of the Lord is near—near and coming quickly. - Zephaniah 1:14
"Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the LORD's wrath." In the fire of his jealousy the whole earth will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live on the earth." - Zephaniah 1:18
Note: If the day of the Lord is near and soon to take place means that it already happened, then according to the scripture above, the whole earth would have been consumed and God would have put and end to all life. Has that happened yet? No! Then near and is coming quickly must have a different meaning, as being imminent, i.e. always about to take place until it happens.
"The day of the Lord is near for all nations. - Obadiah 1:15
"Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty." - Malachi 4:1
"The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place" - Rev.1:1
"Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near." - Rev.1:3
"For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” - Rev.6:17
"Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty." - Rev.16:14
Conclusion:
The day of the Lord, which is near, is at hand, soon to take place, carries with it the meaning of imminency, always about to take place until it finally does. The day of the Lord will be carried out via the seals, trumpets and bowl judgments, as well as the plagues of the two witnesses, which are all still future events. The fact that the OT prophets and the apostles both refer to the day of the Lord as that time of wrath which will bring an end to the current age, demonstrates that "is near, close at hand and soon to take place" did not and does not mean next week, next month or next year, but is imminent, always about to take place.
I pray that God blesses you with the knowledge of this information.
Amen! The blessed hope about the day of the Lord being near and about to happen is that the gathering of the church will take place prior to the day of the Lord and that because we are not appointed to suffer God's coming wrath. So, the gathering of the church of both dead and living, with the day of the Lord, the time of God's wrath to follow.
The Zechariah 14 Prophecy
“For I [Jesus Christ] will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle;
and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished;
and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people
shall not be cut off from the city”
-
There are three phases to this crisis. Zechariah starts at the Second Coming of Christ,
the third phase, and works his way backward chronologically.
The verse starts with Christ conquering the European and Asian powers
who are gathered together for battle.
-
The first semicolon introduces the second phase of this violent time.
The city shall be taken, houses rifled and women ravished.
This is when the king of the north conquers the whole city of Jerusalem,
shortly after he conquers the king of the south[Iran] (Daniel 11:40-41).
-
Then there is another semicolon. This is the first phase, when half of Jerusalem
goes into captivity—suggesting some violence in the process.
-
This first phase could happen at any time, The fall of half of Jerusalem triggers
a violent and massive chain reaction that leads to Christ’s Second Coming.
So what about America.
If someone believes in British Israelism, it would go something like this.
Ephraim[Britain] and Manasseh[US] Judah[Jews in Holy land]
-
Ezekiel 4
13And the Lord said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled
bread among the Gentiles, whither I will drive them.
2Thou shalt burn with fire a third part in the midst of the city, when the days of the
siege are fulfilled: and thou shalt take a third part, and smite about it with a knife:
and a third part thou shalt scatter in the wind; and I will draw out a sword after them.
The siege of Judah, though it begins later and is much shorter,
will still destroy one third of the Jewish nation.
The sieges against Israel and Judah begin at different times, but both will end
at the same time. Why the siege against Judah is shorter is not stated
“Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread
in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall
drink water by measure, and with astonishment: That they may want bread and
water, and be astonied one with another, and consume away for their iniquity”
(verses 16-17).
“And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp knife, take thee a barber’s razor,
and cause it to pass upon thine head and upon thy beard: then take thee balances
to weigh, and divide the hair. Thou shalt burn with fire a third part in the midst of
the city, when the days of the siege are fulfilled …” (verses 1-2).
When God says, “Thou shalt burn with fire a third part,” that concludes the siege.
The siege will keep intensifying until the cities burn with fire.
When it concludes, the economy will be absolutely destroyed!
Society will be burning with race wars, crime, chaos and murder.
This first third—including 100 million Americans—will experience atrocious deaths.
This siege is part of the “great tribulation” that Jesus Christ prophesied in Matthew 24:21.
“[A]nd thou shalt take a third part, and smite about it with a knife .…” This second third
of our peoples will be conquered militarily. This is a prophecy of a military attack.
When the siege ends, then comes the attack. Life for the surviving Americans, Britons
and Jews gets a lot worse. America is already weak and bitterly divided today; once that
division explodes into widespread violence, it will be easy for a foreign power to lay siege
to it—and then to attack.
Many other prophecies show this attack will leave cities without inhabitant!
This implies nuclear holocaust. Hosea 5:5 says America, Britain and Judah will fall
together—which refers to the military attack, the second third of Ezekiel 5:2. After
more than 100 million people die in the siege, more than 100 million will die by the sword.
What happens to the final third? “[A]nd a third part thou shalt scatter in the wind;
and I will draw out a sword after them” (verse 2). God says that after the attack,
the one in three who are still alive will be forcibly removed from their homeland,
taken captive and enslaved. By this point many of the larger cities will be left
without a single inhabitant! So most of these enslaved survivors will have to come
from more rural areas.
Deuteronomy 28 is the “blessings and curses” chapter. In it, God promises many
wonderful blessings if nations would obey Him. “[T]he Lord thy God will set
thee on high above all nations of the earth,” it says, “and thou shalt lend unto many
nations, and thou shalt not borrow” (verses 1, 12).
Is America experiencing this blessing today? This nation is more than $18 trillion in debt!
“The stranger [Gentiles] that is within thee shall get up above thee very high;
and thou shalt come down very low” (Deuteronomy 28:43).
and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land,
which the Lord thy God hath given thee” (verse 52).
“Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers [Gentiles]
devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers” (verse 7).
this sounds just like America that was founded in God we trust,
Protection
God’s prophecy for Ezekiel continues: “Thou shalt also take thereof a few in number,
and bind them in thy skirts” (Ezekiel 5:3). Here is a little group of people who
will be protected, as if they are tucked away on God’s person.
God protects them from the siege, the attack and the scattering mentioned in verse 2.
After all this destruction, people will be humbled and ashamed—and they will get to
know God! Ezekiel talked about that over and over again: They are going to get to
know God (e.g. Ezekiel 6:7; 7:4; 11:10; 12:20; 13:9; 23:48-49; etc.).
---
Our citys are allreadfy on fire, Scoff if people must, but when our cities have
allmost finished burning with fire and this siege has come, remember this post.
the bible says in Isaiah 45:11
Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things
to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
Weren't all seven of those churches to which St. John wrote The Apocalypse (Revelation) in Turkey? Was that not Gentile territory?
Not sure where you are going here my friend. Before we go on, I'd like to call your attention to the different way we write about the apostles and Jesus. You write it as though the Apostle wrote it, as if it was their ideas within the scriptures, etc. and I write as Jesus wrote it.
It is uncanny of why you brought up the 7 Churches that Jesus wrote letters to. However, I will answer your question and where it is going.
While the Churches were in Gentile territory, those who believe in Jesus (both Jew and Gentile) were there also. There were hundreds of Churches through-out the area yet Jesus picked these 7.
Why 7 of them? , why not 50?
