I can't not say something. There's a thread here about favorite TV shows and some people shocked me. Some of these shows are; The Walking Dead, full of violence and profanity.
Family Guy, created by an atheist who blasphemms God as a joke.
Game of Thrones, nude sex scenes.
Modern Family, two gay men are portrayed as the new family unit.
And the list goes on.

I'm not to here cast stones, I've watched one of these shows for a short time myself. But stop watching filth!
You have The Holy Spirit living in you, don't enjoy the devils work! Don't support wicked people by viewing their fantasies that they brain wash the masses with. Fill your minds with what is good, with what you can actually take something from to be the best servants you can.

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent and praise worthy- think about such things

How about some of the shows mentioned in the topic, like The Walking Dead. In one episode the group is captured by cannibals which leads to a scene where two men take a baseball bat to the back of their victims heads then slice their throuts to bleed them out into a sink. One of lines from the current vilian, "I shoved my c#@k down your throut and you just thanked me for it"
Nothing wrong with that?

I can't say I know the show, but I don't doubt it's not targeted towards reblious teens looking for a liberal fantasy world to escape into.

The good fights evil excuse doesn't really cut it. That element can be found in any horror movie.

As long as these shows don't lead to sin, why would it be wrong to watch them? And if people aren't led to sin, who are we to judge them for watching a TV show?
1 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. 2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? (Romans 14:1-4)

As for whether Christ would enjoy watching contemporary TV shows, I can't really say for sure. But I hope to ask Him someday. I realize that Jesus did not sin during his days here on earth. But I get the impression that Jesus wasn't as uptight as some would have us believe. I suspect that He would enjoy life on earth to the fullest—so long as it didn't lead Him or others to sin.

btw, I enjoy watching Game of Thrones. I wish it didn't have the occasional nudity and sex scenes. But it does. No big deal though. I can watch the show without getting all hot and bothered and lusting after some actress who happens to appear in the buff for 15 or 20 seconds on screen.

The shows praise what is sinful. You're being enertianed by sin. Anything you put into your mind will affect your thinking one way or another.

Think about this, you're supporting a show that allows nudity. You should be speaking out against such things.

First, these shows don't "praise" anything. They are just contemporary TV shows intended to entertain people. And like I said above, I'd prefer it if Game of Thrones didn't have the occasional nude scene or sex scene. But it's not like these scenes get me all hot and bothered and lustful. Other people may be different. If you have problems controlling yourself perhaps you shouldn't watch them. In any case, it's not yours to judge. Or have you taken that role upon yourself?

Think about this, you're supporting a show that allows nudity. You should be speaking out against such things.
I'll go you one further: Adam and Eve spent many years in the Garden of Eden TOTALLY NUDE!!!! Their naughty parts were SHOWING for all the world to see!!! Oh the shame!! And you know what, I personally think they were better people when they were nude in the Garden of Eden than when they left the garden fully clothed. /jmho

I did not know that about those shows, mostly because it has been years since I was bored enough to sit and watch TV. But now I'm starting to wonder why you know all these things.

Not how, why? How is pretty obvious, either you are watching them or you are looking up these facts online somewhere. I'm going to guess you're not watching all these terrible shows. But WHY are you researching all these bad things about these terrible shows? Just so you can argue with people who watch them?

We are called to live holy. We are not called to berate others that we think are doing it wrong. And if you're about to pull out the "watchman on the wall" verse, that doesn't apply to you unless you're a pastor and we're your congregation.

Even if I did watch TV, if those shows have all that bad stuff you are talking about I would not watch them. But the people you are berating are all grownups and it's their choice to make whether they want to watch that stuff. Arguing with them about it isn't going to dissuade one single person.

For real man, don't you have anything better to do than yell at people?

There are lots of things I can’t watch on TV.

Anything with horror, lots of gore, demons, vampires, zombies etc. I find them
disturbing.

I especially can’t watch things like possession, hauntings, ghost hunting etc. They really disturb
me.

In recent years I’m finding that I am more put off by shows with gay characters where
once I found them funny.

Soap opera based programmes bore me silly and the story lines have the morals of
the gutter.

Very few movie stars and very few TV programmes are Christian based.
But I think we do need to use discernment at what we watch.

Having said that I do like a bit of sci fi as it’s less predictable than most other types of TV
shows.

The shows use sin to entertain, they depict the broken values of the people who make them.

If there's sex secens in the show shouldn't you speak out against it? What if I buy a playboy magazine just to read the articles?

Adam and Eve were naked before sin entered the world and no other humans saw them.

Why research anything? Let's walk around with our heads in the clouds. We don't need to judge rightly.

You tell me that we are called to live holy, then you shoot me down for pleading others to. And it makes no difference if I'm a pastor or if you're my congregation. We are supposed to guide each other.
Romans 15:14. Colossians 3:16.

I'm not berating anyone, I'm pleading out of love that my brothers and sisters in Christ remove the blood sucking tick that's being called entertainment. They can do whatever they please, let em wallow in filth if that's their thing.

Don't you have anything better to do than play around and give me a hard, which I don't doubt you do for personal reasons.
