Yes. XD I think we all romanticize it in some way or form, myself especially. But for me the fairytale will be the fact it actually HAPPENED and life afterwards. I don’t need a super glam party to commemorate the start of that.

I don't see anything wrong with desiring/dreaming of a "fairy tale" wedding, as long as those dreams are subjected to careful consideration. Generally, I think it's unwise for a couple to spend more time, energy and money preparing for the wedding than for the marriage that will follow.

I feel the same way sweetie, but I will be honest a nerd wedding would be the coolest wedding ever XD

From what I have seen weddings are not a happy time at least not getting everything ready, I mean if you want a stress induced migraine help prepare a wedding, go ahead try it:b

Awesome posts.

I knew of one instance in which a couple spent $30,000 on the wedding and honeymoon, only to have the marriage break up within 2 years (she found out after they got married that she couldn't have kids; he believed it was his God-given right to procreate, and so, he left her in order to marry someone else and have an army of kids with his second wife.)

I don't think any Christian person marries with the thought of divorce in their minds, but unfortunately, things do happen.

I'm at a point now where I prefer things to be as stress-free as cost-efficient as possible, and I would hope that the guy I married and his family would feel the same way.

Shoot, my Dad is an assistant pastor so as long as we could produce a valid marriage license, he could probably get us married right before dinner (and then say grace before eating... talk about a 2-for-1 deal!) We could invite his parents over, celebrate with family, make sure there's cake (that would be my one condition!) and then, away we go!

And now this thread has me thinking of some poor, unsuspecting chap I could convince to stop over to my parent's house for dinner.

I know a couple of gals who are adept at cake-making, and a guy who could spin some appropriate tunes for you. :)

My wedding cost $900. That imcluded the dress and suit. The reception and everything. I wanted to just get married in the preachers office, but her father was having none of it.

If I ever marry again (I’m a widow), it’ll be a simple outdoors wedding to a fun-loving, old fashioned, robust man who isn’t a pretentious, uptight prig. Would that constitute as too fanciful?

Perhaps even contemplating marriage at my age might be a fairy tale. :p

Well, nothing’s impossible with God. :o

i was that weird girl who didn't start planning a wedding at age 7 lol. when i turned about 30, i honestly believed i was never gonna get married. so! when i got engaged, i honestly didn't have ANYTHING in mind except that i was wearing tennis shoes as wedding shoes. lol.

my lovely, awesome parents gave me money for my wedding, and dad said, "if you need more, just let me know." now, i do not come from a family of money. my parents worked really hard, and by the time i got engaged, they were retirement age. so believe me! i was NOT going to use this money unwisely. i googled "wedding on a budget" and got amazing tips! i paid for my dress and accessories. fiance said he would pay for his own tux rental. i made my own centerpieces. i searched online to get the best prices on crafts. part of the centerpiece was purchased at dollar tree!

God blessed me with amazing friends who helped with other things. someone paid for the photography as our wedding present. another friend is in the decorating business, so she provided table covers and chair sashes. another friend is so talented in crafts and letter making, and she helped with my wedding favors. a dear friend of the family helped with the preparing of the meal. we didn't have a band or dj. instead, i put music on my laptop, and a mic was hooked up to it. i could go on and on lol.

in the end, it was exactly what we wanted, and we spent half of the money my parents gave!!! that's including the honeymoon. :o

No. My sisters wedding we made everything except the dresses / suits. It didn't cost an arm and a leg and it was beautiful. If I ever get married I'd like something simple.

I'm really enjoying all y'all ladies writing about budget weddings. It's turning me into butter.

So being frugal is an attractive quality now is it ?

I have to admit, I get REALLY frustrated when I see men posting on a regular basis that all women are after is money.

Sure, maybe some women, and I'm sorry that they've had those experiences.

But we women have had plenty of run-ins with guys who only wanted sex, and many of us still keep on believing that good guys are out there, too.

And these posts are proof that there ARE women out there who are different! It makes me want to jump up and down, wave my arms, and say, "Look! Look! Some of us really aren't just out for money, and many of us are working to earn our own!! There's a bunch of us right here, hanging out in the Single's Forum!!! Don't you see us? We're standing right here in front of you!" :(

Just saw Tommy's post... So being cheap is a turn-on. Thanks for the info, and duly noted! :)
