I think the coolest people in the forums are the singles. Yes,Im buttering y'all up.lol This may seem like a weird question but I figured singles would be the best to ask for help.

I have a real sweet friend,a former pastors wife of a church I attended when I lived in Canada.I haven't seen her in years but she and I have stayed touch by FB. Well just before Christmas she found out that her husband had an affair with his worship leader. Needless to say she's devastated and feeling bad about herself, the other woman was a lot younger. So with valentines coming up I wanted to do something special for her. Where I need help is that 1.I live in a different country 2.what could I send her that would make her day a little more special and easier to get thru? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks lots.

a hand written letter ....

encourage her
remind her God loves her

and to be honest gift wise

people seriously sleep on cordless headphones (bluetooth)

they are so useful .....
so so useful

I second what Blue said...

..a card in the mail might be nice too...but there's a chance her hubby might see it and wonder what its about..

McGee's suggestion of a hand-written letter is awesome--written letters are such a lost art form.

Do you know what kinds of things she's into, Kayla? What are her hobbies, things that she collects or likes, or does she like things like candles, soaps, etc?

If I have a good idea of what a person likes and am able to, I try to pick up a couple of things I think they'd really enjoy, wrap them all individually (because this makes each little gift a surprise :)), and send them all together as a care package. Who doesn't like to receive a box of little gifts just for them? :D

God bless you for thinking of this woman in her time of need. :)

(I hope you'll write a follow-up post in which you might share what you did or got for her, so that it might give us a few ideas how to handle such a situation as well.) :)

Best wishes to you.

They are separated, she just moved in to a home of her own. A card is a good idea, but I wanted something a little extra to go with it.

This lady is dear to me. She has such low self esteem and she's such a beautiful human being inside and out. Her husband leaving her in this way has confirmed all she felt about herself. So I just want to make her feel special on a day that will be hard for her along with everyone on FB bragging about what their husbands gave them.

Years ago, when she and her husband were pastoring our church she was going through a difficult time. She sang a beautiful song in service one morning, really moving. She got up and headed straight to the ladies room. I sensed she needed someone and I waited for an adult, well someone older than me to go and see if she was ok. No one did. I felt God telling me to go but I was hoping someone would. So I got up and went in and she literally fell on my shoulder and sobbed. I don't know how long I held her.It makes me cry to think that anyone would hurt her on purpose. Later in the week I bought a lavender candle set and brought it to her. I can't do much being so far away, but I'd like to do something to let her know Im thinking of her and perhaps help soothe her broken heart a little. :(

A hand-written letter is an excellent idea! That you put the time to write it all out and spend money on the postage will speak volumes. It's something she will keep a long time and cherish, I'm sure. Share some favorite scripture verses of your own.

Or, another great gift is a devotional that can be an encouragement all year round. Write a personal note in the front for her.

I agree about the hand-written letter. That would give it a very personal touch that would be long remembered.

A handwritten letter, with a wax seal on it.

I'm sure there has to be florists in Canada that deliver.... maybe some flowers. Women seem to like that. I kinda like flowers too. Check out FTD.... see what they got going up there.

Thank you all, great ideas! Now I have to make sure whatever I choose gets there in time.

Maybe I'm late, but I've gotta add my two cents :D. I'd send her a little box, with colorful slips of hand-written paper in it, each saying a different prayer you have for her, a bible verse, reasons why she's special, etc. I had that happen to me once, and it was literally the best pick-me-up EVER. You can make it as simple or as fun as you like, but I'd suggest going all out. Gel pens, stickers, bling!

You can send flowers internationally. I got roses sent from a friend in Romania once. They get in touch with your local florist and put the order together there.

Or you can do it the Cajun way...travel up to your friend in Canada, bring your dad, brother etc., y'all pay him a visit and lecture him on what not to be doing when married. Allow him no time for lenghty speeches.

Thank you ladies for more ideas. I don't have a lot of cash on hand but I don't need anything for valentines. I have all I need. I just want to do something a little special for her.

Susanna I have no idea where her husband went. I sure would love to shake the teeth out of him.Im so disappointed. He was the typical "last guy on earth" you'd think would do this.It still boggles the mind. And like I said she already had self esteem issues so this just made it so much worse. I just don't understand why people do what they do. smh

So I made my decision.I bought a bracelet with Ps. 31:24 written on it.

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

I thought it would be something that she could wear and be a reminder to her. I got a friend to find her address and I want to send it anonymously. But its going so far and across the boarder I dont know if I can do it that way. Anyhow I wanted to thank you all for your ideas. You all are fantastic. <3
