*sigh* I said that I wasn't going to get involved in this topic, but some people just can't go to sleep unless they've shepherded somebody else. Whoever you are, know that I do not answer to you, your church, your pastor, your elders, your denomination (if you have one), your interpretations of Scripture, or your own personal guilt that you project onto anyone and everyone by making them feel as bad as you do. You will not shepherd me, son.

Onan didn't want kids. End of story. Next.

So masturbation doesn't need to apply to this issue, does it? You don't have to spank your monkey to lust after a woman.

Yeah, I'm really desecrating this temple of God by pounding my fish, am I not?

If I'm a slave to whatever I enjoy in life, then I must be a slave to General Tso's chicken.

I never said I wanted to break from the "sin" of masturbation because I don't believe that it is a sin. That's your issue.

How can God love us if He gives us the desire to have sex (a desire we did not ask for, by the way) and then tells us that we are not allowed to alleviate ourselves from it? It's like He rubbed poison ivy all over our bodies and then tells us not to scratch ourselves. That's messed up. Don't grieve HIM? Don't grieve HIM?! You have got to be kidding me!

And then you ended your reply with "God bless". Don't patronize me. You know that you don't want God to "bless" me because you want me to suffer like you do. You're like a meter maid who, because she hates her job, wants everyone else to have a bad day, too. Get off your high horse and go bother someone else. I'm not going to let you get into my head and control me. And don't tell me that that's not what you're trying to do. If you weren't, you wouldn't have responded, would you? No.
Dude, CHILL OUT. I really don't think he was personally attacking you. My gosh. He stated his opinion, JUST LIKE YOU.

And, if you aren't lusting after women while you masterbate, what is it that you think about? Are your thoughts during the whole thing pure and blameless? Do you seriously just think about your own hand?

Hey NightOwl, i can see you are pretty annoyed at my post.

I am not sure why you are SO upset about it..
Use your brain.

One of the most important fruits of the Spirit is Self-Control (Galatians 5:22-23)
Guess I haven't achieved that fruit, yet. This is a very sensitive subject to me. If I were to stick my thumbs in your eyes, you wouldn't be concerned with self-control, would you? No, you'd be hollering and screaming.

I am not on my high horse at all sir. You have to understand that just because you desire to do something doesn't make it acceptable in Gods eyes.
I want to repeat what I wrote in another thread; I do not have the capacity to care what God thinks of me.

"You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.

He made us with sexual desires so that we would not be secluded. He said back in the Garden, it is NOT good for man to be alone, so he made a woman.
What you don't know about me is that there IS no "one" for me. No "one" I would want, anyway. And if there is someone for me, I won't be able to love or respect her because she'll be repulsive to me. You get what you give. I'm no prize. I don't deserve someone who I'll be attracted to because I myself am repulsive. Get it? I'm going to crawl into my grave a virgin.

Don't be angry at me for expressing my thoughts on this subject. & my thoughts are it is absolutely a sin to touch yourself to release pleasure. You are to have more self-control then that as a christian. You may be angry because you have been doing it for so long & it's become so natural to you now that your conscience is partly seared to it but I tell you it is a sin.
Don't care. I despise anyone who tells me what I can or cannot do with my own body. That includes doctors who tell me what I can and cannot eat, when and how often I should exercise, how frequently I should read the Bible, etc.

Or do you not know?: A fool has no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. Proverbs 18:2
Did your pastor give you that one? Did you print what I wrote and give it to him? I notified you that you will not shepherd me, and you call me a fool because of it. Forget you.

Your life is not to seek pleasure for yourself, it is to seek pleasure for God!

Bob Hartman of Petra said true happiness is doing what you know what God wants you to do. God wants me to bury my face in the Bible, pray and spend time alone with Him. I do not want to do that. I'd rather play my computer and video games where I'm the one who's in control. I do not believe He wants me to be happy. He wants me to live in agony every day that I go without relieving myself because my torment is a fragrant offering unto Him, and He delights in my suffering. He wants me to present myself as a living sacrifice to Him. Sorry, but I'm not massochistic.

If it makes you feel any better, i use to masturbate too, but i prayed to god to help me & he delivered me from that sin. & my life is so much better now. I use that energy to do productive things. You are so much happier being Freed from sin rather than being a master to your own pleasure.

No, it doesn't make me feel any better knowing that you used to masturbate. If anything, it's like you're saying to me, Dude, get with the program! If I can stop, then what's your excuse?! I like being the master of my own pleasure. It's on my terms. When I decide. Besides, it's not healthy to let the junk collect in your stones for years and years.

Your sexual desires will become so much better once you find a wife too. That is why God made our sexual nature to great. Because sex is a gift from God BETWEEN MAN & WOMAN. You must have Patients my friend, & with that Self-control.
You spelled "patience" wrong, and I already discussed why I will not find a wife.

I really do hope God gives you revelation on this subject. I'll be praying for you NightOwl :) God bless dude.
Don't lie to me; if you're gonna pray, then pray. Otherwise, don't make empty promises you don't intend to keep just to look all spiritual.

NightOwl, if you don't care what God thinks, then how do you know it's not a sin?

Also, I don't believe HolyTrix was at all attacking you.

And, I don't know what you're going through or how you've been treated that will make you so ngry and think that you're so disgusting, BUT Jesus makes us all pure and worthy of love. Dude, take a second to breath, ok? You are loved whether you realize it or not. And I know my words may not mean a lick to you now, if ever. You should know, though, that in Christ, you are wonderful and He created you ON PURPOse and delighted in doing so.

And if HolyTrix or anyone cares enough to tell you that they're praying for you, it's probably not an empty promise.

I'm sorry that you feel you have no worth and that you are so angry. Know that there is new life and joy in Christ. I will also be praying--not to be spiteful or try to shephard you, as you seem to think. I do care and I am praying.

James 1:19;
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to be angry.

I always forget that one.

I know that I'm opinionated, defensive, and even a bully sometimes. What I wrote here in this thread does not contradict with what I wrote in the prayer request thread. I may seem like a two-faced hypocrite, but I meant what I said in both threads. On the one hand, I really don't want to fight God and I really do love Him, but on the other hand, I can't help but fight Him. I guess you could say that I have a "Love/Hate relationship" with God. Do I want to tell people to commit sin? Of course not. I don't want to harden my own heart toward Him any more than I want anyone else to harden their hearts toward Him, but there has got to be a measure of grace. Does God really stand right behind us and breathe down our necks like in Looney Tunes? Is He waiting for us to slip up just so He can point a finger and say, "GOTCHA!"? I don't believe so. Paul said what I want to do, I do not do, and what I do is not what I want to do. I think Paul wrestled with God just like Jacob did, only not in the physical sense. I know I sure have, and I still do. But the one thing I don't want to do is sever Him off from my life. No matter how angry I may get, no matter how entitled I may feel, no matter how much life hurts, I do not ever intentionally want to do my own thing without Him in my life.

I know for sure that masturbation is a sin. Why? It imitates sex! And sex is aproved by God only with your spouse! Is a sin! And you know it! Otherwise you wouldn't doubt it. You just want to calm your conscience which is telling you that you're wrong! Solution? "Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart"(2 Tim 2:22) and prepare yourself for marriage!

I finally gave up masterbation since having done it since the age of 13 or so. I am 38 now and I it has been almost a year now since I have given up that. I was lusting after women and creating fantasies that have nothing to do with the Holy Spirit. I for one am happier now that I let go of that sin because now my thoughts are not plagued by lust.

But I never will get married, so I may as well castrate myself.

ive been searching for years on end trying to figure out how to deny my flesh i have kodak eyes, they can snap witout me even knowing it, and its all beacause a seed was planted in me as a kid i found a porn magazine next to my uncles bed, now do naked women intrigue or arouse me? no, i dont look at porn either but my imagination is very creative , and that makes it hard to deny the want for it to please women whether its in my head or literally and ive been told there is a way to release yourself without sinning and ive tried it, but its very hard to do, i would post the link but i would much rather just quote the guy it came from abook called "everymans greatest challenge" the book saved me from falling into a pit of lust and in the book i says " on young man found a way to get around it safely but be warned if you try you will have to account for your actions" in a latter a young man wrote " i found way to release what im feeling without sinning i start and either think about nothing at all and just move, or i think about things that wont involve lust (cars planes tanks my fav, game etc) but since im not thinking about any woman or anything, it takes longer and often times i end up slippin into thinking about women i may just stay awat from it period"

and im a virgin so i dont tend to try to please women literally beacause they can be very influencing,

so i dont know, ive tried and like he dais its hard and when i think about it its kind of a waste of time i just hope there are other ways of releasing stress at the moment, that way is sort of a last resort type of thing now,

I remember the first time in a small group discussion someone mentioned 'clean' masturbating i.e. not thinking lustful thoughts while masturbating. It was the first time this thought had crossed my mind. For me it makes me feel ashamed and guilty, it was always done with lustful thoughts, so for me a sin. This may not be the case for everyone. Does God want you to masturbate, I think you know the answer to that one.
Romans 14
1Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. 2One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. 8If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
9For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. 10You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. 11It is written:
" 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord,
'every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will confess to God.' "[a] 12So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.
13Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way. 14As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food[b] is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean. 15If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died. 16Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil. 17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.
19Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.
22So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

Hey NightOwl. Buddy, talking and thinking like that is guranteeing what your saying. Like Paul said if you can survive not being married you are blessed, otherwise believe God has someone for you. "Seek first the kingdom of heaven...."

Look at Genesis, it says it all!

Masturbation is sinful, and we all struggle with it. Especially in a society that worships instant gratification.
We have distorted God's original design for sex. We have to go to Him for the true meaning and purpose of our design.

There is hope for everyone, even though it's hard to maintain sexual purity, God help's us. Remember, he doesn't give us more than we can handle.

Men, God doesn't make mistakes, He gave us our sexual drive, and we can achieve self control. We should STRIVE for it!!!

I recommend this podcast for everyone: SOS: Study of Sexuality. It's a christian podcast that studies sexuality with the biblical truth.

The bible says lust is a sin and i am sure when you masterbate your lusting so therefore masterbation is a sin. The bible was not written to write all the ways that are sin but as a guidline to what is sin. Were suppose to use our brains to figure the rest out. masterbation is also selfish and Jesus command us not to be selfish but selfless. So with that us your knowledge of the bible. Is it sin?

I think that you would have to decide that as a couple and WITH God. :] Like, talk about the limits and pray about it together. Are you going to stop at kissing andholding each other? Is it ok to touch each others legs? You know...but be careful because if you both get wrapped up in it easily, it could go a lot further than you wanted it to.

jwindow,

I don't believe that. Sounds like the "Name It & Claim It" doctrine. It also sounds New Age ("You are your own 'god'"). I thought God decides who we're supposed to marry. I'm not saying that I don't want to get married; I'm saying I can't believe it will ever happen. I can't believe there is someone out there who would be both physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually attractive and attracted to me. (Because I'm a mess.)

Paul was talking about meat, but what are you talking about? Apparently, some Christians think it's a sin to eat meat, even though God said otherwise.

Masterbation is 100% absoloutly a sin .

Any person who disagrees with that, or makes excuses against it are trying to justify there guilty pleasures.

God Bless :)

I agree that it's a sin and a bad thing in general. Onan is unrelated because it had to do with the duty of impregnating his sister in law a believe not masturbation.

If you can do it without lusting I dont think he is frowning. I have no proof nor have I read anything to turn against that statement. The act itself is not a sin it the thought in the mind that triggers such a response that is the sin.

I do not mean to be lewd, but honestly what is the point if lust is not involved? If a person can partake in the act with no intention of lusting, I would wager there is more wrong with that person than with a person who partakes in the act in order to fulfill lustful urges. The latter is normal, at least. The former is abnormal.

I was talking to a friend about this postulation that people could masturbate without having lustful thoughts, and he laughed at the absurdity of it. The only purpose of masturbating is to gratify one's lustful flesh. You cannot separate the two.

Granted, a person could leave this thread, and go masturbate without lustful thoughts just to prove a point, but that would simply make the person messed up in the head, and a willful sinner.

I do not believe it is a sin. Plain and simple.

How is someone messed in the head if they masturbate without being lustful...thats ridiculous.

Honestly, its not that big of a deal. People blow little things like this topic way out of proportion.
