Rev 17, Who is the Woman? Jerusalem Vs Rome.


There are many good scriptural reasons to see things both ways, in my opinion.

I think that it is Rome. The woman sits on, is, the city of the seven hills/mountains which are the seven heads of the beast Roman Empire Rev 17:9, 18.

The woman was in the wilderness v 3. Jerusalem is not in the wilderness of the gentile nations.

The woman was 1st century Jerusalem upon whom the blood of the prophets would come:

Mat 23:35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

Mat 23:36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.

Mat 23:37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

Who does John say the blood was avenged upon:

Rev 18:20 “Rejoice over her, you heavens! Rejoice, you people of God! Rejoice, apostles and prophets! For God has judged her with the judgment she imposed on you.”

Why would John tell them to rejoice over any other city that was not guilty of killing the prophets and apostles?

The woman arrayed in purple and scarlet sitting on the scarlet beast, with decorated with precious stones definitely is referring to Roman church, the false system of worship. The truth is being suppressed but the everlasting gospel shall be preached unto all the world as witness. There's another woman in Revelation which has the sun and the moon under feet. Mystery Babylon is the corrupt and idolatrous religious system which has been primarily adopted by the Roman Catholic Church, but will incorporate the blasphemous and idolatrous worship system of the Antichrist and Satan in the future.

the great false religions that are Biblically described as Babylon
being practised and tolerated without limit.

religion of Rome the purity and spirituality of the original Apostolic gospel
was lost and replaced by a hybrid religion blending Babylon and Christianity
into a new creature. The gospel was paganised.

History teaches us that the Rome fell and was ransacked by the Huns and others
but she survived - and his deadly wound was healed: Rev 13:
and the previous Roman Empire and her Emperors were replaced by a new
empire - The Holy Roman Empire of the Roman Church with a new emperor;
the Bishop of Rome who was now to become Pontifex Maximus.
A new emperor would rule all of Christendom for a thousand years until
the great schism between Catholicism and Orthodox branches.

And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood
of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

This verse alone reveals the whore to be Rome and the Papacy for no other
church has over the centuries slaughtered and burned millions of heretics,
Bible translators and Protestants, as the RCC has.
The RCC has much blood on her hands and her history is steeped in the blood
of those who rebelled against the blasphemies of the Popes and their self-given
divine authority. Worshipping the Emperor is still the Roman way.

St Bartholomew's Day Massacre in 1572 of the Protestant Calvinist Huguenots
by the French Catholics. The slaughter began in Paris and spread to the countryside
with between 40,000 and 100,000 Huguenots being butchered in cold blood.
For which the Pope of the time struck a commemorative gold medallion to celebrate
this great victory over the Protestants in France.

No other city has determined the civilization and political history of Europe
and Christianity as much as Rome. No other denomination has the history of
worldly power and corruption as the Roman church.

With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants
of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

Again this clearly indicates Rome and the Papacy for all world leaders, even
Protestant heads of State, visit the Pope and pay homage to him.
The emperor still rules from his throne in Rome.

Could be Rome cannot be Jerusalem. Might be Babylon as I see Islam as overtaking Rome and having the necessary hatred of Israel to siege them with the necessary ferocity to kill them all.

Revelation 17 is not a stand alone chapter
there are many cross references to Rome

6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name,
and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them:
and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Revelation 13:

Here again is reference to the historical reality of the rise of the RCC and the
temporal power of the Papacy.
Claiming divine authority on Earth as the Vicar of Christ and overriding the
authority of the scriptures. Replacing Jesus the Christ as the head of
"the Church" with Pontifex Maximus as the head of the Mother Church
here on Earth.
Papal Bulls declare doctrine as the final authority above scripture.

Verse 7 clearly identifies the RCC who truly has slaughtered the saints and heretics
over the centuries and suppressed the true Apostolic gospel - even forbidding the
reading of the Holy Scriptures by the common people.
What other Church murders Bible translators in the name of Rome?

And the power and influence of the Roman Catholic Church is worldwide extending
to all inhabited continents and nations and peoples and languages.

To understand who the future Whore is, one must first forget about past cities, empires, religious organizations and look at a present day nation that fits the traits listed in Scripture. It is not Rome, Jerusalem, or the Catholic church.

I believe the designation "Mystery" as in Mystery Babylon, is not referring to the literal city of Babylon, but the pagan practices, the mystery religions of Babylon, of which the majority of can be found in the practices of Roman Catholicism.

For example, the pagan practice of "queen of heaven" worship was transposed onto Mary. Same with "moth and son" worship, which stemmed from Semiramis and Tamuz, which were transposed upon Mary and Jesus. Same thing regarding their worship of a pantheon of god's, which got transposed over to praying to the saints.

Many of the Babylonian pagan religious practices where simply carried over in a different form when Constantine deemed Christianity as the official religion of Rome. With that came all of their pagan practices. That Miter hat that the bishops wear, is pretty much identical to the fish hat that the priests of Dagon wore.

And I might also mention that 82 foot Egyptian obelisk from Hierapolis that stands out in the middle of St. Peter's square. What is this doing out in front of what is supposed to be the true church (as they claim). What a slap in the fact to God to have an image of pagan worship standing in the entrance to the Lord's church! This should be a big red flag.

Roman Catholicism is the mother of all pagan beliefs. She is that city that sits on and is famous for her seven hills/mountains. She is the woman who is dressed in purple and scarlet, for this is the exact colors of her bishops and cardinals. She is what is going to become that world-wide religious system. In addition, I believe that one of the future pope's will play the part of the false prophet who will be performing those miracles, signs and wonders on behalf of the first beast/antichrist. According to Rev.13:16, it is the false prophet that causes all people to receive the mark of the beast. This will mean that the beast will have all of those believers of that religious system with the false prophet as their religious ruler, in his hip pocket, so to speak.
