Questions about the 7 Basic Commands of Jesus

According to George Peterson the 7 basic commands of Jesus are as follows:

1. Repent (and believe the Good News). Mark 1:15

2 Be baptized. Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38

3. Love. John 13:34, Matthew 22:37-40

4. Celebrate the Lord’s supper (take communion). Luke 22:17-20

5. Pray. John 16:34, Matthew 6:5-15

6. Give. Matthew 16:19-21, Luke 6:38

7. Witness (make disciples). Matthew 28:18-20

I like what he had done. It is easy to remember and to teach others.

The questions are:
1. Can we really categorize what Jesus commanded in His teachings into just these seven?
2. Has anyone else done something similar to this? Have they categorized the His teachings/ instructions/ commands/ etc. into their respective categories?
 
Jesus simplified things so I could focus on just 2 basic commands.

Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.'
 
Jesus told the apostles to teach us everything that He commanded them to- therefore the entire New Testament is the doctrine of Christ.
 
I made a list of all the questions that Jesus asked people. It is interesting to do this and then answer them personally as if He was asking you.

There are quite a few of them.

The Source you are quoting left out the important one about footwashing found in John, Chpt. 13.......but that's ok

So, are these Commands the Law? Are the Commandments Jesus gave us the Law?

I went to the website and watched the short video there: very interesting and helpful with your questions here. The context there is a mission setting where pastors are trying to learn how to disciple and build a church. Rather than just throw the entire New Testament at an illiterate pastor or require months of training and education, the thought was that these seven commands give a firm start to a church plant in a mission setting.

And if you stop and consider these seven: they were also all practiced by the church in Acts: they are foundational commands. Yes, there are many other commands and theological truths that are necessary and helpful, but these are a helpful starting point for a mission church setting.
 
What about trust and rest?

I think the "seven basic commands" is a force-fit to make it seem like it fits the pattern of sevens in Scripture. Not everything is about sevens.

Oh yeah, in a mission field these probably seem to be the first 7 'basic' teachings to use in discipleship. After these 7 there are others... wow, why I did not notice that before?! This answer helps. Thanks!

I would love to also see your list...

May be you can author a discipleship book based the the questions of Jesus or something like that!

I found a book by a Jimmie L. Hancock that lists all the questions in the Bible. But he just listed them all without any teachings or sermons from the KJV. The first question by Jesus in Matthew is from chapter 3 verse 7. It exposes hypocrisy! Wow!

YES! But George missed it. G-D/MESSIAH, HIMSELF DID WHEN HE GAVE THE 10 COMMANDMENTS!!!!

Since twelve is a significant number in Scripture, this works well. But then, 24 is another significant number, so another 12 could be added.

I can see why you might think that - but I went to the website and watched the short video there and found a very good explanation of the intent of these seven - see post #10
