He had his problems, but I was impressed by his paper linking hyper-faith to gnosticism. I think he's a genuine believer.

Abraham had come from a war ,and this war had happened because he went to recover his brother Lot,his son and his goods ,women and the ,(Genesis 14;12-16) in verse 24 Abram did not keep what was not his
now Melchizedek..was not just a great man,he is also refered to as the high priest,(verse 18, Melkizedek brought Abram bread and wine when he met him)he was the priest of THE MOST HIGH GOD,apart from the bread and wine he also BLESSED Abram verse 19,.He did reject the tenth offering but note in chapter 15 God really blessed Abram,
in the NT, melkizedek is mentioned again in( Hebrews 7;1-3..
7This ‘King Melchizedek of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham as he was returning from defeating the kings and blessed him’; [SUP]2[/SUP]and to him Abraham apportioned ‘one-tenth of everything’. WE as christians know that Jesus is the new HIGH PRIEST who reighns for ever and ever,
so yes tithing is all about generosity,Abram was generous enough to offer from what he had and was mightily blessed by God,it must come from our heart,because we cannot devieve God who sees into our hearts,and we must not give expecting in return.It doesnt have to be a tenth,this is what Abram had offered,and from which the levites law of giving to the high priest was drawn from.
above all lets pray to the Holy Spirit who is the counsellor and teacher that has been sent to us ,that he may bring to us understanding.
i personaly believe in bringing gifts to God as a sighn of thanksgiving for what AND WHO He is and the blessings he has poured on us including His ONLY son.
As I said, Abram's case is not an exemplar for Christians, because we aren't tithing from war spoils. Further, he kept nothing of the remainder.
If tithing was about generosity, it would be optional. It wasn't for Israel.
The word translated "tithe" literally means "'tenth" (as in one-tenth or tenth in a row). No other portion or ordinal means "tithe".
The "law of tithing" came from God through Moses. It did not come from Abraham. What the Levites "gave" was a tenth of the tithe they had received from the other eleven tribes. It was required by law.
That's great, but it has nothing to do with old covenant tithing. Christians aren't required to tithe.
Come on, man. No one is suggesting to seek "the Kingdom of God" second. What is being said is you cannot tithe in the biblical sense. Besides, giving money to the Swaggarts is not seeking the Kingdom of God.
Moved to Baton Rouge in 1984 during the heyday of his ministry. You are quite correct. His complex on Bluebonnet is mostly abandoned or rented out. Still has a following of die hards though.

I t was great in the old days when you could stake a claim on a piece of land camp there in your what ever and slowly build yourself a home pay your debt on that home on it free and clear and have something forever. These days money is spent everywhere rent or mortage utlilites etc. You can start knocking bills out and not restarting them like credit cards know them out and cut them up. Turn your electronics off that you do not use. there are ways to cut down on the devourer but you will never get rid of it 100 percent until your in the ground then the devourer will go after your family lol .. seriously though take a look at your bills cut down on stuff. spend more time in nature then on the play station or what ever hehe. p.s. if you find a way to get rid of devouerer before death let me know.

Jesus can and will get us a job and even a career. What is impossible with us mere humans with no resources whatsoever IS possible with Jesus with every resource available to Him and therefore He makes available to us His beloved. I was 55 with no real job skills and no hope of getting any... and Jesus provided a series of miracles that only He could do. Supernatural.
When I stopped depending on my mere human abilities and began resting (there is a rest for the people of God) that is when God began working in my life. I did enough worrying and striving for a life time and it got me confusion., emptiness and shame.
When we work..... God rests. When we rest.... God works. Worry for nothing... but in everything by prayer and supplication make your requests known unto God.. leaning your whole human personality on Him... not only will He give you peace but He will direct your paths and lead you to where you need to go. He gives peace in the process as well. He supplies every need even peace as we wait.
Not because of our being good enough or for our earning it but because of Jesus who IS good enough and who is standing in for us.

Not tithing doesn't send a person to hell. However, it does place a person (Believer) under the curse of poverty that gives the devourer access. Mal. 3:9-11
"Not tithing" means nothing to the Christian, who was never required to tithe in the first place. Galatians 3:9-11.
