We have raccoons here, too :D

I also had raccoons as pets when I was a child

When I was nine years old, my dad rescued four baby raccoons.

We kept two of them; I looked after Charlie and Ferocious for four years.

Ferocious was the nice one :)
They are intelligent creatures shown by how they can get into things people think they can't. We put bungy cords on our garbage cans to keep them out. Otherwise off comes the lids and a mess to clean up.

Amen.....another truth overlooked by the workers for....Salvation is a FREE GIFT OF GRACE BASED ENTIRELY UPON FAITH WITHOUT WORKS ATTACHED....however...we are REWARDED FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE OR WORKS...

the word REWARD is MISTHOS which means wages or pay rendered for service...

An easy enough truth to understand...!
Amen! Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

1 Corinthians 3:11 - For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; (of reward) but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire/as one escaping through the flames. *And NO the fire/flames is not a reference to purgatory as Roman Catholics teach.

There is certainly a difference between a "gift" and a "reward." A gift is "something given voluntarily without payment in return." A reward is "something given or received for service, work, merit, etc.. A reward is something you earn. A gift is freely given and is not earned by the recipient.

That is a funny story, Studyman! Haha, your mom taught your raccoon Ben manners  I was bitten by the other raccoon~ once when I went to feed them, she charged out and chomped down on me as I was putting the bowl of food on the ground. I stood up and she was dangling from my arm, so I knocked her off with my other hand, fisted :p The same one bit down on my ankle once while I was sitting on top of their pen grooming her sister (the one in the pics). Somebody was walking by, and their presence obviously upset her, because she ran in and out of the pen in a type of frantic panic before she bit my leg, which was dangling near the entrance to the pen. That told me something about the person that was walking by at the time :( I often walked them, and she was the one that would sit on my shoulders in the classic raccoon posture, with her front paws perched on the top of my head, so she wasn't always bad :D But I knew I had to be more careful with her :)
They can be vicious, we had 3 during my childhood. They all got pretty ornery as they got older. Ben was the best one. He would ride on my shoulders all the time. I walked to school with him one morning, he did so good until he decided to go to the bathroom all over by back and neck. Classmates thought it was pretty funny. Me, not so much.

Thanks for the post and the memories it brought to my mind. You have a great day :)

Have you not noticed that no one hardly responds to your drivel.....serious.....Why are you blind to not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy has he saved us....ALL PAST TENSE...

Must be your Catholic roots
John 15:18-25 The World Hates the Disciples “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates me hates my Father as well. If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’

John 12:42-50 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from men more than praise from God. Then Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. “As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”

Matthew 12:33-37 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

WHY DO YOU CURSE AND MOCK GOD???

Hebrews 9:27-28 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but TO BRING SALVATION to those who are WAITING for him.

Romans 8:24-25 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But IF WE HOPE FOR WHAT WE DO NOT HAVE YET we wait for it patiently.

2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For WHAT IS SEEN IS TEMPORARY, but WHAT IS UNSEEN IS ETERNAL.

THERE ARE SOME ON THIS FORUM WHO CLAIM TO HAVE ALREADY POSSESSED ETERNAL SALVATION. DO THEY NO LONGER WAIT FOR THE LORD TO BRING THEM SALVATION SINCE THEY ALREADY POSSESS IT? ARE THEY NOT GOING TO FACE JUDGMENT ANYMORE?

Philippians 3:12-16 NOT that I have already OBTAINED all this, or have ALREADY BEEN MADE PERFECT, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward THE GOAL to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are MATURE should take such a view of things. And if on some point YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have ALREADY ATTAINED.

1 Peter 1:9 for you are receiving THE GOAL OF YOUR FAITH, the SALVATION of your souls.

SALVATION IS THE GOAL OF THOSE WHO ARE WAITING FOR HIM, THE CHURCH WHICH IS THE BODY OF CHRIST OF WHICH HE IS THE SAVIOR.

OSAS IS A FALSE MANMADE DOCTRINE THAT NULLIFIES THE WORD OF GOD.

Mark 7:6-13 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.” And he said to them: “YOU HAVE A FINE WAY OF SETTING ASIDE THE COMMANDS OF GOD in order to observe your own traditions! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: ‘Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God), then YOU NO LONGER LET HIM DO ANYTHING for his father or mother. THUS YOU NULLIFY THE WORD OF GOD by your tradition that you have handed down. AND YOU DO MANY THINGS LIKE THAT.”

JESUS SAID;

“If you love me, you will obey what I command.” john 14:15

…” If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”matthew 19:17

“ Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.” john 14:21-24

THIS FALSE MANMADE DOCTRINE TEACHES THAT OBEDIENCE TO GOD IS JUST A WORK THAT MAN CAN DO BUT HAVE NO PART, NEITHER ESSENTIAL NOR NECESSARY FOR SALVATION WHICH CONTRADICTS THE FF:

Hebrews 5:7-9 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of ETERNAL SALVATION FOR ALL WHO OBEY HIM.

A QUOTE FROM ElAmor’s POST

2 John 1:4-11 It has given me great joy to find some of your children WALKING IN THE TRUTH, just as the Father COMMANDED US. And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had FROM THE BEGINNING. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we WALK IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you WALK IN LOVE. Many DECEIVERS, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as COMING IN THE FLESH, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the DECEIVER and the ANTICHRIST. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who RUNS AHEAD and DOES NOT CONTINUE in the TEACHING OF CHRIST does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him SHARES IN HIS WICKED WORK.

Who are those RUNNING AHEAD and DOES NOT CONTINUE IN THE TEACHING OF CHRIST?

They are those who CLAIM SALVATION is by Faith ALONE and ONCE SAVED they are ALWAYS SAVED therefore rejecting God’s Laws and commands which are in fact God’s own words. says that even obedience to God cannot save anyone because they are works and Faith ALONE saves.

Who then is the deceiver and the ANTICHRIST?

They are those who do not continue in the teaching about WALKING IN LOVE which is WALKING IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS. Who do not acknowledge Jesus as coming in the flesh by the mere fact that they reject the LAW that prophesied about Jesus as coming in the flesh.

1 John 2:1-6 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. THE MAN WHO SAYS, “I KNOW HIM,” BUT DOES NOT DO WHAT HE COMMANDS IS A LIAR, AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him MUST WALK AS JESUS DID.””””””””

WE ARE TO WORK OUT OUR OWN SALVATION NOT AS INDIVIDUALS WORKING FOR HIS OWN SALVATION BUT AS ONE BODY IN CHRIST(eph 4:1-16) WORKING AS GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANTS OF GOD(mat 25:14-30) WHO ARE LIVING ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT AND NOT ACCORDING TO THE SINFUL NATURE.(rom 8:1-17) WE HONOR AND GLORIFY GOD BY THESE WORKS OF LOVE, FAITH AND OBEDIENCE THAT BEARS GOOD FRUITS THAT WILL LAST..(john 15:6-17)

Luke 3:9 the ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

1 Peter 1:3-7 Praise to God for a living hope Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a LIVING HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the SALVATION THAT IS READY TO BE REVEALED IN THE LAST TIME. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be PROVED GENUINE and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

2 Peter 1:5-11 For this very reason, make every effort to ADD TO YOUR FAITH goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being INEFFECTIVE and UNPRODUCTIVE in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and BLIND, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his PAST SINS. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Revelation 3:1-3 To the Church in Sardis “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but YOU ARE DEAD. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; OBEY IT AND REPENT. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

Galatians 6:7-8 DO NOT BE DECEIVED, GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

John 7:17-18 If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from
God or whether I speak on my own. He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

Luke 6:46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

James 4:17 Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.

“DEAD FAITH CANNOT SAVE” ))james 2:14-26)

Hey people.

I am now 6 weeks without smoking.

Is that a good work?
If I died tonight does that mean I'm going to heaven?

I have been told in the past that I'm going to hell and smell like it on the way?
B....,

Congrats.

Good progress...but, not out of the woods ...yet.

A useful tip...from experience.......never tell that little demand center in your head that you will NEVER have another cig...just that you choose not to have one today/this hour, etc. When you say ...NEVER...it is like pouring gas on a fire...watch out. ...it is almost un-controllable.

Be steadfast you are over the hump.

The NCV is so far biased for grace as a gift and that good works are so worthless, it contridicts the words of Christ to such a degree as to make it a dangerous translation that will lead many astray.

Paul is talking about the works of the law cannot save, it takes the grace of Christ to save. Paul speaks many times as to how important good works are to your complete salvation, but he knows that you cannot be saved just by living the works of the law. But the idea of an automatic path to eternal life by the grace of Jesus is not a true doctrine.

Salvation is a process of Jesus giving his life for your sins and for your resurrection. You must believe in Jesus and his mission and trust that his sacrifice will affect you. You also must have faith in the grace that Jesus offers you, as you give your life to him, and you do as he asks and do the good works that he has created for you to help his needy people. In fact one of the differences between the sheep and the goats was that the sheep took care of the needy, and the goats did not. So the combination of belief, faith, trust, grace, and good works is the unbiased biblical path to salvation.

Yep benhur, he has the same syrupy sweet false gospel, and he is full of nonsensical questions.
Sorry, I am not somebody else in the past. Wrong again. Many Christians believe as I do, you do not hold a monopoly on the grace doctrine.

Not yet, its his manner of speech and world view that comes through and if you contest what he says he has a real bad mean streak. I am a bit surprised you were unaware of him. He has cut back on the syrup a little bit.
I have on occasion been straight forward and not minced words, especially with you, but a real bad mean streak is not in my nature, you must be thinking a someone in the past that is not me.

I am glad I do not have to pretend to be Hebrew....and under the new covenant there is neither JEW nor GENTILE, BUT RATHER A NEW CREATION in Christ Jesus...

Does using the following make one more holy or righteous....

YHWH
ISRAYL
ELOHIM

Jesus is his name and he saves his people from their sins and he states when you pray say...Our FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN.....

All you can say is: to each his own.

Hi BH,

This is what I read you saying.

Grace in fact is not free but earned. I have embolded my perception above.

To me the path to eternal life is as a result of the grace of God and no other mechanism.

It's grace that sets us free to walk in the works prepared for us in advance.
It's grace that causes our sins to decrease and Jesus increase.

Without faith we cannot be saved

Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

The works we walk in are an expression of our love for what Jesus has done for us, not to earn anything.
If we look to earn anything then it's not free and this includes salvation.
If we conclude that works earn salvation then we need to quantify the number of works and also the quality of works.

You mention sheep and goats.
And I totally agree with you.
That addresses the quality of works, to me that is based on love.
Yet what we find with the sheep is that they say

Matthew 25:37-41

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

They did not boast in their works or present an amount of works.
They did works because of love as a result of grace.

What verses does Paul say works are required to complete our salvation?

Not salvation.....that is given freely, eternally by grace through faith with no strings attached.....or works, law keeping or jumping through religious hoops.......
That's all fine, but now tell me about the rewards that God has in heaven for those that do what he asks them to do and do good works to help his needy people here on earth. What reward is given? I think it was Ariel that said the reward was a gem packed crown? Not sure how valuable even a gem packed crown is in heaven, so what do you think the reward is?
