James 2:10 - For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of all.

(unless you kept of the law entirely at every point, you are guilty as any other law breaker)

1 John 3:4 - Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

(this isnt just about laws given to moses.... this applies even to ALL sin...... which means)

Romans 3:20 - 25
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

without the deeds of the law

but
......
what of the law then?

honestly...I do wish the strawman constantly inserted would hijack itself out to the Burning Man thingy in the desert and throw itself into the flames

JESUS FULFILLED ALL THE REQUIREMENTS SO WE DO NO HAVE TO

but you know, He also said if you love me....seems if is still one of the biggest little words in the English language

to think our obedience to the law is tied to our salvation is ridiculous

and to think Gods grace is a license to sin is equally ridiculous

God saves His children
God chastens His children
God keeps His children
God provides growth and a transformation in His children

the commandments given by Jesus underscore and prove the validity of the commandments given by God to Moses on Mt Sinai

the love of God, which we can ONLY have through His Holy Spirit, enables us to love

and this takes time. there is no instant bucket of love or instant anything with God EXCEPT for our initial step of faith towards Him and accepting Him as our Savior, who died in our place

it would seem people do not understand that Jesus fulfilled all the commandments by offering Himself in our stead...the Bible says the blood of bulls and goats could never wash away or cleanse from sin...only a holy and OBEDIENT and willing sacrifice could do so

people needa get out their Bibles and start studying

you read about Jesus saying to love etc, but they do not understand that love is the fulfillment of the original commandments

hence, the constant objections every time somebody says obedience

well hey ~ y'all just go and disobey then if you think that is what God desires. He does not force anyone

love is never about force.

Absolutely!!!!

Great post.

We are to offer "Free Will" offerings. It is not those who reject God totally that He has His greatest problem with. It is those who "confess Him with their lips" but don't follow through, that is the problem.

Duet. 23:21 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
22 But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.

23 That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.

and again;

"Why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and do not what I say?

People do need to stop letting preachers filter the Word of God to them. This is the New Covenant. No more Scribes and Pharisees.

Good post :)

How dare you use the word, strawman, with any others......

Jesus says many will come to Him on that day saying Lord, Lord, and He will reply, go away, I know you not. So it is since He ascended to the right Hand of Power, amen.

What you fail to grasp is growing up into obedience is the sign you have the free gift of the Holy Spirit in salvation. The person who says they know God but doesn't do what he says does not have the free gift of salvation. Haven't you been reading mailmandan's posts?

yup those He never know who point to their works

it is a shame....

reminds me of those in romans who seek to establish their own righteousness not submitting to His

they did not have faith in Him

:(

sad really

we all have fallen short
but unless your iniquity is covered by His righteousness

you will depart from Him and be judged according to your own righteousness (a failing imperfect righteousness)

do you honestly come away with that after reading my posts?

maybe I misunderstand you

I have repeatedly said that we cannot earn or keep salvation through 'acts' which would be fulfilling our own righteousness

I have said that here, I have said that there, I have said that everywhere

and to think Gods grace is a license to sin is equally ridiculous

there is that strawman again. I don't know where so much straw comes from

I know I have never said, thought or intimated any such thing

that would be like saying I don't have to obey the law because my daddy is a cop

Jesus says many will come to Him on that day saying Lord, Lord, and He will reply, go away, I know you not. So it is since He ascended to the right Hand of Power, amen.

And what do we know about those people

1. They did many works
2. they practiced sin. (Jesus said he never knew them, and john said they never knew god, jesus and john agree)

just goes to prove works as a means to see who is saved and who is.p not is meaningless. Even the unbeliever has works,

By the tone of your post, you sound a bit guilty. Either that or this is one of your strawmen...

You and your cohorts should really stop deflecting and listen to Jesus christ, my Lord and my God..

Reminds me of pharisees

pump their chest, and praise god they are not like sinner.

He got it because your sticking up for JJ.

thats what happens when you stand up for people, and say things to others teyi g to show trhem how they are wrong.

others think you believe as they do,

thanks!

I guess we should not even introduce the concept of 'living sacrifice'

you know, I don't think I have ever seen that 'discussed' (insert a good belly laugh here) around here

12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Yeah t is everyones fault but yours.

agreed

i come on after a couple minutes and am met with false accusation after false accusation

and a bunch of silly arguments against something i never said

"ye shall know them by their fruits" eh?

especially when he was proven to be wrong, and even when his own post was posted which proves it, he still refuses to repent.

He may fool a few people, but most will see right through it

i came here thinking the argument was

"does your salvation depend on your obedience to the law"

and responded to those i thought were arguing "yes"

if you think i made a strawman

or if i happened to

i did unknowingly

i wasnt sarcastic with my posts

and i didnt respond to you 7 with "what i got from your post" or suggest YOU SAID we are saved through our own obedience

and to J

well
i havent seen an ounce of anything from you other than being offended by truth...

anyways

the fact of the matter is

no..... we are not justified or saved or kept saved according to how well we obey His law

we are saved by grace through faith APPART FROM THE WORKS OF THE LAW

but Gods law is GOOD in that it is what dictates what we should and should not do

and all those who are not covered with His righteousness will be condemned by His law

but all those (born again believers) who are covered by His righteousness are under grace
and saved

you guys can argue all day about how fruitful you have to be to be saved

but no J

i am not guilty

i am innocent

but not according to MY righteousness

but the righteousness of Him who saved me

Jesus Christ

It is quite disturbing to read people writing to or posting to each other about others in the thread instead of about theWord and the OP......

Ignoring g when Jesus Christ teaches us to obey His commandments is the epitome of strawmen activity.

I am really not worthy, but then only Jesus Christ is worthy of all blessing, power, dominion adoration and praise. Praise Jesus christ, He is worthy not any of us, amen.
