Nonsense, that is an absolutist statement. It may not be as good for you but it doesn't negate the work you put in....

Or am I over reacting here? ;-)

Hard to say... What is an absolutist? Is that closer to a Methodist or Baptist? Only thing I can think of is absolutist is one who only drinks Absolut. If I know what it is, I can say whether you are overreacting.

Arguably, some of the contents of those 3 McDoubles I ate could go to fueling my muscle repair process.

I was raised by a grammar nazi mother. Oncefallen is correct.

And three mcdoubles would not benefit anything... except McDonald's cash register. Bleh! Next time get a fish sandwich plus a piece of crispy chicken. It's a good meal, it costs less than three mcdoubles, it tastes better and you still get your daily quota of grease.

Yesterday was weird. Good weird, but weird.

I woke up at 4:00 a.m. and started praying. See, we love our church, but we’ve been frustrated by a lack of any real teaching. Our Sunday school class goes through a chapter in the Bible and the teacher asks what certain words mean to us. “Vain”, “steadfast”...we end up going in circles listening to three or four outspoken folks define and redefine a few words that aren’t really open to interpretation, particularly in context.

I considered taking a dictionary to class instead of my Bible, but I thought that might not be the right attitude or solution.

We’ve also had a hard time really connecting with anyone at church. Sundays are crazy for us, and we don’t really see anyone from church outside the church. I’ve got several people I talk to each week, and the more I work at it, the less awkward I am with them, but I’ve felt kind of...purposely kept at a distance, I guess, by most women my own age.

So, prayer, yeah? I kind of just vented to God about everything. We Want to be at church, to serve, for fellowship, to learn...why did it seem like none of that was happening? What else could we do besides show up and meet people and offer to help?

The following events are all small things that seem like direct, though unexpected, answers to my prayers-

Our Sunday school teacher announced that he is stepping down and hoping that my husband might want to take over to teach the next planned lessons on church history.

The pastor gave my husband and I lesson books for a class on the basics of Christianity, which is something I told my husband privately last week that I felt our church could really benefit from. We’re not sure if the pastor just wants our thoughts on the lessons, or if he’s hoping my husband may want to teach it. I guess we’ll find out next week.

The pastor’s youngest daughter (a couple years younger than me) is married to a man who was just hired where my husband works- the two of them are getting to be good friends, and I had been hoping for a chance to meet Her at some point. Yesterday that happened and I think she may be more shy and awkward than I am.

As we were driving away from the church, I noticed that the pastor’s other daughter and her husband were behind us- they followed us for over a mile to a stop sign and pulled up next to us and invited us out to lunch with them. They seriously chased us through two neighborhoods and over a huge hill to ask if we were hungry.

God opened a lot of doors yesterday that I hadn’t been sure how to unlock myself...and all of that is awesome and what I’d been asking for, but the craziest part of the whole day:

Right after church, my husband was finishing up some work in the sound booth, and I needed to pick up some things at the grocery store, so the kids and I went to do that and then came back for my husband. I didn’t ask for dry ice for the milk or few other cold items because I thought I’d have it home and in the fridge within a half hour. Thanks to the random lunch invitation, the groceries ended up sitting in the hot car for three hours...yet when we got them home, they were ice cold.

God is definitely into details and has everything under control if He cares enough to spare our dairy products from the heat :D

Cool beans! And cool milk and cool other stuff...

God definitely takes care of details. Just ask Joshua. God did not correct him about making the sun stop in place. God didn't stop and explain to him that the Earth revolves around the Sun and he would actually have to stop the rotation of the earth. God just took care of it. He also took care of everything not flying all over the place when the earth suddenly stopped.

Not necessarily true. If you are a hard weight trainer most of the week, you can have a "free" day (eat whatever you want) once a week and it won't make much of a difference at all. You’ll burn thru them calories faster than you can say Ronald McDonald. Check out the "Body For Life Challenge" nutrition program online and see for yourself. The intense regimen sister egeiro just described sounds like she has her fat/carbs/protein percentages under control.

Way to go, egeiro! That workout sounds glorious. Weight training is exhilarating, isn't it? :D

I generally eat healthy and consistently through out the day to keep my metabolism going. My older brother is a personal trainer and went on to do sports nutrition as well. I don't always listen to what he says but I've picked up a few things here and there.

It is now 6:07am in Brisbane and I'm about to leave for a 5km jog.

I mean, I love exercising and all but I think the main picture is I'm one of these people that has trouble sitting still.

Ooooh, that's so cool you have a personal trainer in the family. I envy you. I used to have a trainer years ago when I competed in weight training. I sure miss having someone to assist me like that.

Yep, I know that restless feeling well. I used to struggle with eating disorders due to trauma from my past. I was so skinny, my ribs stuck out. Of course, poor nutrition worsened my overall health (physical & mental). And I could never sit still for very long, always going, always having to do something, becoming a workaholic & climbing up the corporate ladder. I was so hard on myself and felt guilty if I wasn't busy. Then I crashed.

Weight training while meditating on God's Word, walking & hiking while talking with God, and eating at least a few meals a day and thanking God for providing it (instead of being afraid to eat) got me healthy again. I'm learning how to really rest in God's love and care, more and more each day. I'm still energetic, and I love to walk and exercise regularly because it's just exhilarating and makes me feel so happy. And I love to cook and eat now, too! :eek:

Wow, AuntieAnt. I'm sure you're one of these people I would love to sit and have a coffee with. Thanks for sharing some of your story.

I'm glad you're at a good place now, and I'm sorry to hear about your past. It sems like you've come a long way and have won many battles. Even so, that is so cool you competed in weight training! I'm not disciplined enough to compete but have respect for those who do.

I too love spending time with God while exercising. Actually, jogging with worship music is one of my favorite ways to spend time with Him. I find if I keep my body active I can keep my mind and heart on Him.

I'm trending towards a Big Mac, supersize fries and a strawberry shake and leave the negating of work to the health guru's. They may eat healthier but I eat happier.

after a 5 mile run me and my friend are very grumpy and we go to jack in the box and i order a combo (that's my usual) with soda.

Not true. Micheal Phelps (won a bunch of gold medals for swimming in the Olympics) used to eat whole pizzas after swimming...

The bad parts about fast food are the increased sodium added by the restaurant, the large portion sizes which increase fat and cholesterol content (depending on the item ordered), and the added sugar content (in condiments and bread).... BUT when one burns calories during exercise it does in fact lessen the impact of all those things. And enough exercise will cancel out the bad stuff like in Phelps' case, but it takes a lot of exercise.... But that doesn't mean a person can't indulge once in awhile. Even professional bodybuilders who have to compete with dangerously low bodyfat levels schedule in what they call "cheat days" at least once a week when they can eat whatever they want....

Check out this video. This girl who is a fitness buff eats a bunch of donuts, fried chicken, cookies, etc. for 12 hours..

You know what’s fun about eating healthy? DO you?

...not very stinking much.

For one thing, it’s completely blown my grocery budget. I used to be able to make my meal list, estimate how much all the ingredients would cost, and be right on or under that number at the register. I could always count on spending less than a dollar for Mac and cheese, five bucks for two gallons of milk, and I knew when meat or cheese were going to be on sale.

Now, I have to try to guess the cost per pound of weird stuff like apples, Brussels sprouts, or green beans. Also, how many crowns of broccoli will I need, and why can’t more than four fit nicely into those flimsy little bags? Apparently those scales in the produce section aren’t just for kids to try to weigh their elbows on...? Why does a bag of lettuce cost 3x more than a head of lettuce?

A half gallon of rice milk costs the same as two gallons of milk...but it lasts the same amount of time because nobody drinks it.

I spend a lot of time checking labels, only to discover that the shorter the list of ingredients is, the more it’s going to cost. The less processed an item is, the more expensive it will be. If I’ve estimated that I’ll spend $330, I now find that I end up paying more like $350-$400.

And that’s just the issues before I even get it all home.

That $15 bottle of extra virgin olive oil runs out fast when every recipe calls for it. And then nobody wants to eat the barley, lentils, or quinoa because they hate me- I mean, because it’s a weird texture. That bag of grapefruit looks so nice arranged in a basket...until two weeks later when they’re all still there and going moldy. The organic, low sodium trail mix everyone loved a month ago sits sadly in the back of the cabinet because all of the sudden everyone doesn’t like almonds. One day they love basil, the next it’s “weird”. One day Greek yogurt is amazing, the next nobody will touch it.

Do you have any idea how many healthy meals use chicken? At this point, I’m pretty sure I never want to see chicken again...I’m tired of eating the dead ones, and the live ones attack me and dig up my garden.

The worst part though? I’ve stopped eating sweets, soda, most carbs, pork, and I have one lonely little cup of coffee a day, plus I walk and garden and ride my exercise bike and chase kids and chickens around...I’ve lost six pounds. My husband? He still goes out for lunch once a week, hasn’t added any exercise, and he’s dropped 45 pounds.

I could cry into my leftover Mediterranean quinoa and chicken salad (that I’m going to have to eat for breakfast and lunch for three more days or it will go to waste).
