China: Deepening Assault on Human Rights

May. 18, 2018 China’s mass indoctrination camps evoke Cultural Revolution
https://apnews.com/6e151296fb194f85ba69a8babd972e4b

'Since last spring, Chinese authorities in the heavily Muslim region of Xinjiang have ensnared tens,
possibly hundreds of thousands of Muslim Chinese — and even foreign citizens — in mass intern-
ment camps. This detention campaign has swept across Xinjiang, a territory half the area of India,
leading to what a U.S. commission on China last month said is “the largest mass incarceration of
a minority population in the world today.

https://apnews.com/0db368402a214799921a05743b7acff7

The program is a hallmark of China’s emboldened state security apparatus under the deeply
nationalistic, hard-line rule of President Xi Jinping. It is partly rooted in the ancient Chinese
belief in transformation through education — taken once before to terrifying extremes during the
mass thought reform campaigns of Mao Zedong, the Chinese leader sometimes channeled by Xi.

“Cultural cleansing is Beijing’s attempt to find a final solution to the Xinjiang problem,”
said James Millward, a China historian at Georgetown University.

"The internment system is shrouded in secrecy, with no publicly available data. The U.S. State
Department estimates those being held are “at the very least in the tens of thousands.”

Although China denies the camps, a state-run Chinese journal ran a story in
June 2017 about how successful reeducation camps are.

Christianity is a “national security threat”

Islam isn’t the only religion targeted. In 2017, China declared that Christianity was
a “national security threat.” Chinese Christians have been told to replace Christian
symbols in their homes and businesses with images of Xi Jinping.

This month, the Chinese government commanded that all religious buildings fly the Chinese

May 1, 2018 A Real Missile Gap Is Looming In Hypersonic Weapons
http://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/real-missile-gap-looming-hypersonic-weapons-25650

A new “missile gap” is emerging, one that is based in fact. This is the disparity between the United States and its main competitors, Russia and China, in the field of hypersonic weapons systems. A hypersonic vehicle is one that moves through the atmosphere at a minimum speed of five times that of sound, or Mach 5. A hypersonic cruise missile travels continuously through the air employing a special high-powered engine. A hypersonic glide vehicle is launched into space atop a ballistic missile, after which it maneuvers through the upper reaches of the atmosphere until it dives towards its target. Both vehicle types can carry either conventional or nuclear weapons.

Hypersonic weapons systems could dramatically alter the existing balance of conventional military power forces between the United States and its major competitors. They could strike key military targets such as airfields, command and control centers, depots and force concentrations almost without warning. Hypersonic delivery systems are viewed as particularly useful against aircraft carriers, large surface combatants, amphibious warfare ships and even transports carrying critical military supplies.

This new gap could be far more consequential than that which concerned Senator Kennedy some sixty years ago. Hypersonic weapons are extremely difficult to track with existing air and missile defense sensors and virtually impossible to intercept. According to General John Hyten, Commander of U.S. Strategic Command: “We don’t have any defense that could deny the employment of such a weapon against us, so our response would be our deterrent force, which would be the triad and the nuclear capabilities that we have to respond to such a threat.”

A significant addition to Beijing's military portfolio
2 May 2018 China Deploys Cruise Missiles on South China Sea Islands

China has installed antiship cruise missiles and surface-to-air missile systems on three
of its artificial islands in the South China Sea, cnbc reported on May 2, citing “sources
with direct knowledge of United States intelligence reports.”
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/02/chi...ms-on-spratly-islands-in-south-china-sea.html

The installations, if confirmed, would mark the first Chinese missile deployments in the
Spratly Islands, where several countries including Vietnam and Taiwan have rival claims.

The assessment says the weapons were placed on Fiery Cross Reef, Subi Reef and
Mischief Reef, all of which are in the disputed Spratly Islands.

Greg Poling, a South China Sea specialist at Washington’s Center for Strategic and Inter-
national Studies, said deploying missiles on the outposts is a game-changer for the region.

He added that such deployments were expected as China built missile shelters on the reefs
last year and already deployed such missile systems on Woody Island further to the north.

The YJ-12B antiship cruise missiles allow China to strike ships within 295 nautical miles
of the bases. The HQ-9B long-range surface-to-air missiles can hit aircraft and incoming
missiles up to a range of about 160 nautical miles.

“Before this, if you were one of the other claimants … you knew that China was monitoring
your every move,” he said. “Now you will know that you’re operating inside Chinese missile
range. That’s a pretty strong, if implicit, threat.”

"By all accounts, the new coastal defense systems are a significant addition to
Beijing's military portfolio in one of the most contested regions in the world."

China Installs Military Jamming Equipment on islands

"The placement of the defensive weapons also comes on the heels of China's
recent South China Sea installation of military jamming equipment, which
disrupts communications and radar systems."

April 9, 2018 China Installed Military Jamming Equipment on Spratly Islands, U.S. Says

Disclosure comes as Chinese military conducts what U.S. officials describe
as its largest military exercise to date in South China Sea.

“China has built a massive infrastructure specifically — and solely — to support
advanced military capabilities that can deploy to the bases on short notice,” Adm.
Harry Harris, the head of the U.S. Pacific Command, told lawmakers.

China’s “impressive military buildup” over the last years may soon enable the
People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to challenge America’s military dominance in
the Pacific region “across almost all domains,” the American commander warned.

May 27, 2018 China rages over US warships sailing near disputed islands,

China has reacted angrily after two US warships sailed near the disputed Paracel Islands
in the South China Sea, describing the move as a “provocation” and accusing America
of committing a serious infringement of the country’s sovereignty.

A statement issued by the defence ministry said Chinese vessels and aircraft warned
American ships to leave because they had entered its territorial waters in the South
China Sea, through which nearly $5 trillion in ship-borne trade flows, without permission.

The move “contravened Chinese and relevant international law, seriously infringed upon
Chinese sovereignty and harmed strategic mutual trust between the two militaries”, it said.

It described the Chinese military’s resolve to defend the country’s sovereignty as “unswerving”.

China promised the U.S. his plan was not to militarize the Islands.
Only five years ago, China’s outposts in the Spratly Islands did not exist.

In September of 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping stood in the Rose Garden in
the United States and promised that China did not plan to militarize the locations.

“Relevant construction activity that China is undertaking in the Nansha Islands
does not target or impact any country and there is no intention to militarize,”
he said, using the Chinese name for the Spratly archipelago.

From the beginning, Xi’s words were doubtful. And the May 2 revelations
from cnbc, and other actions make a mockery of them.

It is now clear that these militarized islands will function as air and naval bases,
allowing China to enforce its claims not just to the Spratly Archipelago but to
almost the entire South China Sea—and beyond. “The only thing lacking are
the deployed forces,” wrote U.S. Navy Adm. Philip Davidson in late April.

“Once occupied, China will be able to extend its influence thousands of miles
to the south and project power deep into Oceania,” Davidson wrote.

The Importance of the South China Sea

The South China Sea is among the most valuable and important ocean regions on
the globe. It is immensely wealthy in natural resources, containing an estimated
11 billion barrels of oil, 190 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and some 10 percent
of the global fisheries.

Even more importantly, around $5.3 trillion of trade each year flows through the
South China Sea. That is more than 30 percent of total global shipping trade.

China Is Steering the World Toward War by being aggressive and provocative, and
thereby challenging seven decades of American naval dominance in the Pacific Rim.

Should the world surrender the South China Sea to China? History teaches that
appeasing expansionist powers does not bring lasting peace. China can use this
in a blockcade, in a trade war with America that is brewing already.

28 June 2018 China won’t give ‘even one inch’ of South China Sea, Xi tells US
https://www.smh.com.au/world/asia/c...th-china-sea-xi-tells-us-20180628-p4zo6v.html

Beijing: When US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis met with Chinese President Xi Jinping
on Wednesday, he hoped to start a conversation on China's position in the South China Sea.
He left knowing just how firm Xi is on the issue.

"We cannot lose even one inch of the territory left behind by our ancestors," Xi told him,
according to Chinese state media. "What is other people's, we do not want at all."

Disagreements between Washington and Beijing over the Chinese military's expanding
presence in the South China Sea and the US policy toward Taiwan were two of the most
prominent issues raised during meetings between Mattis and senior officials in Beijing,
the first stop on a trip that will take him to South Korea and Japan.

Mattis, who has assailed the Chinese military for its expansion in the South China Sea,
made clear the Pentagon's stance on contested waters, stressing the need for freedom of
navigation in the region and China's adherence to international law, according to defence
officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

At a conference in Singapore this month, Mattis accused China of "intimidation and coercion"
for placing surface-to-air missiles and other military equipment on islands in the South China
Sea, many of which are also claimed by Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia.

The Philippines has expressed concern to China over an increasing number of Chinese
radio messages warning Philippine aircraft and ships to stay away from newly fortified
islands and other territories in the So. China Sea claimed by both countries, officials said.

It is a question of when, rather than if.

“They’ve built these extensive facilities and both Chinese civilian and PLA experts
have always made it clear that when the strategic time is right, they’re going to start
using them more fully,” said Bonnie Glaser, a China security expert at Washington’s

choosing,” Glaser told Reuters. OCTOBER 31, 2017

A six-day live-fire drill gets Xi Jinping’s point across.

2018/7/17 PLA drill in East China Sea ‘tailored for Taiwan separatists’
http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1111219.shtml

“The drill’s main objective is to send a serious warning to Taiwan separatists,”
Song Zhongping, a military expert, told the Global Times. “The pla Air Force and Navy
have been frequently conducting island encirclement exercises. The drill this time will
add up and form a military deterrence of high pressure against the Taiwan separatists.”

China sailed its aircraft carrier through the Taiwan Strait in January
and held a large-scale military exercise in March.

In 1949, Communists took over China, and the defeated nationalist government
retreated to Taiwan. Taiwan is an independent democratic nation, but China has
never recognized its sovereignty, and it frequently threatens to conquer it by force.

The only thing that has kept China from invading Taiwan is its partnership with
the United States and America’s promise to defend it with force if necessary.

August 16, 2018 Chinese bombers likely training for U.S. strikes: Pentagon
https://www.yahoo.com/news/chinese-bombers-likely-training-us-strikes-pentagon-194141619.html

Chinese bombers are likely training for strikes against US and allied targets in the Pacific,
according to a new Pentagon report that also details how Beijing is transforming its ground
forces to “fight and win.”

The annual report to Congress, released Thursday, highlights China’s growing military,
economic and diplomatic clout and how Beijing is leveraging this to rapidly build its inter-
national footprint and establish regional dominance.

In the case of China’s air power, the report states that Chinese bombers are developing
capabilities to hit targets as far from China as possible.

“Over the last three years, the PLA (People’s Liberation Army) has rapidly expanded its
overwater bomber operating areas, gaining experience in critical maritime regions and
likely training for strikes against US and allied targets,” the document states, noting how
China is pushing its operations out into the Pacific....

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, suggested that U.S. dollars no longer be used for
loans coming from the International Monetary Fund. He proposed that gold be used instead.

“These debts should be in gold,” he told the Turkish media. “Because at this point the karat
of gold is unlike anything else. The world is continually putting us under currency pressure
with the dollar. We need to save states and nations from this currency pressure.”

Erdogan is telling the world that it needs to remove the shackles of reliance on the dollar.
It shouts to the world, We no longer wish to conduct business with you on your terms.

The U.S. dollar has been the world’s primary reserve currency since the 1944 Bretton-Woods
Agreement. Now more and more nations are once again looking to gold for financial security.
This trend threatens to undermine the dollar and bring about the collapse monetary system.

-A Growing Deep cooperation between Moscow and Beijing
http://tass.com/world/997455

On April 3, Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe traveled to Russia as the special envoy
of Paramount Leader Xi Jinping for the Moscow International Security Conference. The
general had two main messages to deliver to the Russian leadership and to the world.

First, Wei said: “I am visiting Russia as a new defense minister of China
to show the world a high level of development of our bilateral relations
and firm determination of our armed forces to strengthen cooperation.”

He continued: “Second, to support the Russian side in organizing the Moscow Inter-
national Security Conference, the Chinese side has come to show Americans the
close ties between the armed forces of China and Russia, especially in this situation.
We’ve come to support you.”

So the messages are that Russia-China military axis is here
and it is ready to challenge the existing global order.

systems into one global navigation giant. “Moscow and Beijing will team up to create an

More Asian Nations Strengthen there Military Cooperation

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (sco), a security alliance of Asian nations,
held its 15th annual Defense Ministers’ Meeting in Beijing on April 24.

The eight member nations—Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan,
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan—pledged to enhance cooperation between their defense
departments and armed forces.

Chinese Minister of National Defense Gen. Wei Fenghe presided over the summit
and delivered a keynote speech. “The ‘Shanghai Spirit’ should be well-preserved,”
he said, “while pragmatic cooperation is strengthened in areas such as high-level
exchanges, joint military drills, and education, among others.”
http://eng.mod.gov.cn/news/2018-04/25/content_4810475.htm

Members also agreed to hold major joint military exercises in Russia this September.
The combined population of these nations comes to around 3.2 billion people, which is
close to half of the total global population.

The strengthening of cooperation between these eight Asian nations is deeply
significant in light of Bible prophecies for modern-day Asia, in this end times.

It will have An Army of 200 Million Men. John refers to this 200 million-man army
as “the kings of the east.” And will be one of the main players in the last part of a

this stupefying size could be assembled. The way is being prepared for the last war.

prove-all,

Thanks for these informative posts.

It is important to know that the real enemy is the government of China and Russia among others and their expansionist policies.

The enemy is not our fellow peace and freedom loving partners. Not republicans, or democrats, green party, or some other party that votes in peace, and for peace.

The forces that are dividing our nations are strong lying spirits, with origins and influence from our enemies, planting tares among the wheat.

China Buying Control of the Caribbean

May 1, 2018 China snatches Dominican Republic from Taiwan in diplomatic blow
https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/01/asia/china-taiwan-dominican-republican-intl/index.html

"Establishing diplomatic ties with China means unprecedented huge potential opportunities
for the Dominican Republic's development," Wang said.China refuses to maintain diplomatic
relations with any country that recognizes Taiwan, a self-governed and democratic island off
China's southeastern coast that Beijing considers an integral part of its territory.

Taipei reacted angrily to the news, which left the island with 19 diplomatic allies around the
world -- mostly small and poor countries in the Pacific and the Caribbean, with the Dominican
Republic being the largest before the latest development.
-

Using economic incentive to control the policy of other nations is not new to China.
Recently we can see what happened in Sri Lanka and Vanuatu. Infrastructure and
investment projects are often used as leverage—particularly with poorer nations.

The Dominican Republic is no different. China is Buying Control of the Caribbean,
at the same time the U.S. is struggling to pay for its foreign military bases.

China on Taiwan

In 2016, Sao Tome and Principe ended relations with Taiwan in favor of ties with
China. Last year, Panama followed suit. And in May, both the Dominican Republic
and Burkina Faso announced that they are also switching allegiances.

China views Taiwan as a rogue province that belongs under the control of the
Communist Party along with the mainland. It has said it is willing to use force,
if necessary, to bring the island under its control.

This has always been the utmost strategic and political goal for the Chinese Com. Party.
Many analysts believe that Xi is likely to focus on bringing Taiwan under China’s control.

China and India push to improve strained ties

Financial Times China and India push to improve strained ties

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in China on
April 27 and 28. In the informal summit, they discussed ways to ease the tense situation on
their Himalayan border. A visit expected to reset relations between the world’s two most
populous nations. A reset could start reversing India’s current alignment with the U. S.

Just last year, the two nations were on the brink of war over a territorial dispute. However, Xi
and Modi pledged at the summit to keep the border in “peace and tranquility” by using “strategic
communications” to prevent misunderstandings. They also agreed to “handle all their differences
through peaceful discussions.”

for influence. China is the largest economy in Asia. It also has a significant military force and a pen-
chant for gobbling up territory that is not its own.

The Belt and Road Initiative is another contested point between the two nations. India tries to
portray itself as the alternative to China in the region. Each nation seeks to contain the other’s
influence, which inevitably leads to clashes.

“That no advisers and no ministers will be present in the room with Xi and Modi,” the Sunday
Guardian wrote, “indicates the importance both leaders are giving to their own role in improving
relations between the two countries.”

"Both are believers in the 21st century as belonging to Asia, and recognise that for this to occur,
the two largest countries on the continent need to act in concert on several matters.

According to Chinese state news agency Xinhua, Xi told Modi, “The great cooperation between
our two great countries can influence the world.” As U.S. influence wanes, India is realizing that
it isn’t in its best interest to be too anti-China.

“Within China, hostility toward India is being replaced by hopes for friendly ties,”
the Times stated. Leaders in New Delhi appear to share China’s hopefulness.

“India is ready to work with China to deepen leaders’ friendship through the meeting,”
Ex Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said during the April 22 announcement of the summit.

She added that the country is ready to “enhance trust between the two countries and
promote India-China strategic cooperative partnership to a new high.”

Modi is also eager to shore up support as he prepares for next year’s election.
Brokering peace with China could help accomplish this. “[A] warming after nearly
six decades of frost between Delhi and Beijing would represent a historic achievement”

Both sides understand that for relations to improve in a meaningful way, India must
distance itself from the United States. Asia analyst Keegan Elmore said, “China will
be keen to woo India away from a U.S. alliance against Beijing.”

A Breakthrough in China-Japan Relations

Japan is another traditional adversary of China that is reconsidering its position. China and
Japan have been on tense terms for several years because of a series of territorial disputes.

China has been aggressively taking control of waters and islands in the South China Sea that
are not its own. As an island nation, Japan eyes China’s territorial grabs uneasily, but it doesn’t
want to fight back.

There is a lot of bad blood between the two nations. However, it may be in Japan’s best interest
to build warmer relations with China, since its American ally is becoming more isolationist.

On May 9, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and South
Korean President Moon Jae-in. The main topic on the agenda was North Korea, but Abe also had
a one-on-one summit with the Chinese leader. As one source told Bloomberg, “The summit’s main
deliverable is the fact that these proud countries are talking.”

According to the Japan Times, Japan and China are working toward establishing free trade
through the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. They have also agreed on a
“Maritime and Aerial Communication Mechanism” to prevent unnecessary conflicts between
their forces in contested waters.

China has made no move to give up the islands and waters that it has already taken over.
Still, it looks like the two nations are moving toward an uneasy friendship.

Both Japan and India have traditionally had close ties with the United States. However, U.S.
President Donald Trump’s “America First” policy is causing them to rethink their alliances.

China is rapidly gaining power and influence in Asia. Trade war between the U.S. and China
has become a reality. As the U.S. isolates itself, it makes the rest of the world more likely
to unite against it.

It may seem far-fetched to say that India, China and Japan will end up as allies.
But that is what the Bible indicates will happen! Revelation 16:12 refers to the “kings of east.”

Other prophecies show that this alliance will include Russia, China and Japan, and probably India,
the Koreas and smaller southeast Asian nations. These Asian nations will ally together into a strong
power that will “trouble” the king of the north (Daniel 11:44). China and Japan will eventually
combine their power with the ultimate intention of forcing the U.S. out of the western Pacific.

Despite its many national, religious and political differences, Asia will ultimately be welded together
into a common power bloc.” Japan and India’s rapprochement with China show the growing reality
of that “kings of the east” alliance.

The U.S. is struggling to pay for its foreign military bases.

The U.S. maintains 800 foreign military bases spread across 80 countries, according to
David Vine, an associate professor of Anthropology from American University. These bases
cost U.S. taxpayers over $156 billion per year—almost one fifth of all U.S. military spending.

With the federal budget deficit projected to soar to $1 trillion by 2020, interest
payments are consuming an increasing share of U.S. tax revenues.

Within the next few years, the federal government is projected to spend
more on interest than on defense.
https://blogs.wsj.com/economics/201...efense-and-nondefense-discretionary-spending/

This means that America will be forced into making budget cuts or printing massive amounts
of money. Since 62 percent of the $4.407 trillion slated to be spent in fiscal year 2019 is ear-
marked for mandatory spending programs like Medicare and Social Security, all budget cuts
must come from the discretionary budget (unless Congress reforms mandatory spending).

This likely means defense budget cuts in the near future.

Congress acknowledges this reality and projects that defense spending will fall from
4.7 percent to 2.7 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product within a decade.

If the nation is forced to cut defense spending, its overseas military bases will likely be one
of the first expenses to go. The loss of these bases would transform America from a global
hegemon projecting power around the world into a normal nation just defending its borders.

Many people on both sides of the political spectrum would love to see this happen. Many on
the left view America’s overseas military bases as oppressive colonial outposts, while many
on the right view them as a needless burden on taxpayers.
