Those who are sanctified are set apart/made holy in standing before God, positionally in Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:11 - Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 1:2 - To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified (past tense) in Christ Jesus..

Yet I also see progressive sanctification in which the reality of that holiness becomes more and more evident in our actions, words, thoughts, attitudes, and motives. In regards to presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice, in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, we read- For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain (present tense) from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor.

Here is how I see it. The believer possess a positional, judicial standing of righteousness positionally in Christ (sanctified/set apart/made holy) and, second, a remaining need for practical, progressive holiness.
Amen! Well said.

Salvation is God's gift to us, our bodies on the altar of service are our gift to Him . . . a sweet-smelling savor in His nostrils.

HELP - Can somebody teach us how to do what the scriptures is telling us to do (please post scriptures)?
The message of the Scriptures is actually very simple. Most of what God gives us in His Word are purposely placed on the bottom shelf so that even babes in Christ can reach it. Consider this passage for I believe it holds in totality the answer to your question . . .

"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure" (Philippians 2:12-13).

Remember,

". . . the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
(1 John 2:27).

To walk in the spirit means to maintain faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross, i.e., Finished Work, i.e., The Blood of Jesus. This allow the Holy Spirit latitude to work and help us and deliver the Believer into the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ so that the life of Christ is manifested through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit only works in the life of a Believer in the parameter of Christ and His Finished Work (Romans 8:1-2). This is why it is called "The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2)" which is the highest law of all. The Holy Spirit keeps all of the commandments for us. You are guaranteed failure if you try to live for God in your on will power, strength, and performance. The only solution for sin, the only answer to sin, is the Cross of Christ.

How does a Believer maintain faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross? By just believing in Jesus and what He accomplished at Calvary Cross. Romans 4:5 - Galatians 2:19-21 NKJV - 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 NKJV - Colossians 2:11-15 NKJV

When faith is not maintain in Christ and the Cross the Believer enters the flesh, i.e., The Law - the curse. Romans 8:1 - Galatians 5:16-26

A. To walk in the spirit means to maintain faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross, i.e., Finished Work, i.e., The Blood of Jesus.

So, you are saying that a lost man needs to 'walk in the spirit' [lower case 's'] before He even has the Holy Spirit? And that he must have an 'exclusive faith' in the finished work of Christ?

B. This allow the Holy Spirit latitude to work and help us and deliver the Believer into the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ so that the life of Christ is manifested through the power of the Holy Spirit.

As a result of A the lost man is 'delivered' to the Gospel (death, burial and resurrection) to be saved even though the lost guy already has an 'exclusive' faith in Christ?

Is that what I am reading here?

And what in the world does this have to do with the question and answer referenced above where you ask, "HELP - Can somebody teach us how to do what the scriptures is telling us to do (please post scriptures)?"

Why do I feel like this is a gotcha! post?

Read my post again...I said the Believer. A unbeliever is not discussed in my post. Most Christians are posting scriptures without understanding how to do the what to do the scriptures are asking them to do.

God has chosen to operate His work from the basis of faith. "The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:2) is God's prescribed order of victory for the Believer over sin, the world, the flesh, and the Devil. This means that the Believer must place and maintain proper Faith the size of a mustard seed exclusively in Christ and the Cross of Calvary, i.e., The Finished Work, i.e., The Blood of Jesus, where the victory was won so that His life would be lived through you. This gives the Holy Spirit the legal means to help and do what is needed to be done in the Believers life because the Believer is glorifying Christ, God's beloved Son in whom He is pleased. You are now operating in the spirit. No Believer can fix the flesh with the flesh. All fruits that are added to the leaves of the Believer most be done by the Holy Spirit or you enter the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21).

The Holy Spirit doesn't require much of us, but He does require one thing, and without reservation.
Our Faith must be exclusively be in Christ and the Cross; understanding that this is God's Prescribed Order of Victory (Rom. 8:2).

The Holy Spirit works strictly within the parameters of the "Finished Work" i.e., "The Cross of Christ" i.e., "The Blood of Jesus;" which demands that our Faith be placed and maintained exclusively in the Cross of Christ. The reason is simple, that's were the price was paid, and the victory was forever won (Romans 6:1-14; 1 Cor. 2:2; Gal. 5; Gal. 6:14; Eph. 2:13-18; Col. 2:14-15).

Victory over sin: Romans 8:2
Victory over the world: Galatians 6:14; 1 John 5:4
Victory over the flesh: Galatians 5:24
Victory over the Devil:Hebrews 2:14; Colossians 2:15

The Apostle Paul makes it very clear in Romans 8:10 that the physical body, mind / intellect, and the heart (which is evil - Jeremiah 17:9) has been rendered helpless because of the original sin; consequently, the Believer trying to overcome by willpower presents a fruitless task. Only the Holy Spirit can mortify the deeds of the flesh and make us what we ought to be (Romans 8:13). This means we cannot do it ourselves. Once again, He performs all that He does within the confines of the Finished Work of Christ (Romans 8:2).

If a Christian will and their efforts to live for God is in anything except Christ and the Cross, i.e., Finished Work, The Blood of Jesus (Romans 8:2), Satan can override your will and force you to do things you don't want to do and trying not to do (Ephesians 6:12). Jesus said deny yourself and pick up your cross and follow me (Luke 9:23).

Remember our bodies are dead and useless to God. The heart is prone to wander away from God's love and eat from "The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil." The reason why the body is dead is because of the effects of the fall has made us totally incapable of yielding spiritual obedience on a regular basis (Jeremiah 13:23). So there must be a source outside of myself that helps me to enter into sanctification which is the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:13).

Note: The Believer must repent not just for the bad they are doing, but also for the good they are doing. Why? Because the Believer can depend on the good to get them through (Jer. 6:13-15). Good things will always follow right living. However, that is not God's way. His way is Faith exclusively in Christ and His Finished Work (Rev. 3:17-22).

How does a Believer maintain Faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross? By just believing in Jesus (who He is - John 1:1-14) and what He accomplished at Calvary Cross where the victory was one. Romans 4:5 - Galatians 2:19-21 NKJV - 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 NKJV - Colossians 2:11-15 NKJV

The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus and the Law of Sin and Death are the two most powerful Laws in the Universe; the "Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus" alone is stronger than the "Law of Sin and Death"; this means that if the Believer attempts to live for God by any manner other than Faith in Christ and the Cross, i.e, "The Finished Work", i.e., "The Blood of Jesus," they are doomed to failure.

If a Christians faith is not maintain exclusively in Christ and His Finished Work, i.e., The Cross, i.e., The BLOOD of Jesus, the works of the flesh will manifest.

Paul tells us this in the 5th Chapter of Galatians. The entire Book of Galatians, but especially the 5th Chapter, is a warning from Paul to the Church at Galatia, which is also meant for us. The warning is that if they place their faith in anything except “Christ and Him Crucified,” that “Christ shall profit you nothing” (Gal. 5:2).

The Apostle goes on to say that if the Believer doesn’t adhere to the Way of the Spirit, which is the Way of the Cross, then works of the flesh will manifest themselves. He said:

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God” (Gal. 5:19-21).

Now let me say it again, because it is so very important:
If the Believer doesn’t understand the Cross of Christ, as it regards Sanctification, then, in some way, one or more of these “works of the flesh” are going to manifest themselves in his life. As stated, such is inevitable! The first four, “Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, and lasciviousness,” are obvious and easily understood. But the modern Christian quickly dismisses “idolatry, witchcraft, and heresies,” thinking they do not really apply today.

Everything that mans does dies; everything Jesus does lives forever and is blessed. Psalm 1:3

"The Cross" (capitalized) did nothing for you and can do nothing for you; it's an idol, just like the pole with the snake became a snare and an idol for the Israelites.

Our faith is to be in Jesus Christ and what He accomplished. The cross (lower case) was merely the instrument of His death. Putting your faith in "the Cross" is folly. Putting your faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ is wisdom.

Faith that is not placed and maintained exclusively in Christ and the Cross, i.e., The Finished Work, i.e., The Blood of Jesus (Romans 8:2), cancels out the grace of God in your life that the Cross of Christ achieved for you (1 Cor. 1:17; Gal. 2:21). Christ is become of no effect unto you (Gal. 5:4).

The Cross of Christ is as necessary for sanctification as it is for salvation (1 Cor. 1:18).

The Apostle Paul said, "I am determine to know no any thing among you, except Jesus Christ, and Him Crucified (1 Cor. 2:2)." Why would Paul say that? Because that is the only solution. Many Believers have been given a sugar pill.

It is correct that the 'pole' became an idol . . . but that was not it's original purpose. It was only later after they left the symbol beyond it's purpose.

Yes, the cross has become an idol to those that wear their shiny bauble on a chain around their neck, but I'll always cherish the 'old rugged cross.' I hung there with Him seeing as how "I am crucified with Christ . . .".

You hatred of the cross is most disturbing.

Nope, not in Ephesians 6:12.

Just wrong. Adam and Eve ate of that tree. We inherited the sin nature. We don't eat from the tree.

If you are talking about salvation then aren’t we positioned In CHRIST and sealed?

How does a believer maintain faith?

If JESUS Is the vine and we are the branches receiving sustenance from the vine which would be fruit of the Spirit and faith Is a fruit of the Spirit,I don’t believe you have to maintain faith If JESUS Is the vine.

That’s like an apple tree straining to make apples and thinking I have to make apples.
