Hi all. I am new to religion and have a few questions regarding absolution and forgiveness of sins. I would like to think of myself as a good person with sound morals and ethics, unfortunately that was not always the case. There have been sins, some of them were extremely bad with no justification whatsoever. It's my understanding god forgives sin, but I don't think I deserve forgiveness for certain things. Even if he would forgive me I don't think I can ever forgive myself. It puts me in a strange place. Does anybody have any input or personal experience with something similar?

Your spiritual journey is off to a great start -- you feel you don't deserve forgiveness and this means you're very far from being a Pharisee. God values sincerity over almost everything else. Worry no more -- if your repentance is sincere God has already forgiven you!

All sin can be forgiven except for attributing something evil to God, which is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

You can blaspheme against the Son, the man Christ Jesus, and be forgiven, as in the case of Saul turned Paul, but not against the Spirit.

Even those that crucified Jesus could be forgiven for they went against the flesh.

If you are sincere about repenting of your sins you have think you are worthy to be forgiven, for it not you cannot be forgiven, for you have to forgive yourself.

Look at terrible things people have done in the Bible, and was forgiven, like David putting a man in the front line of a battle so he could have his wife, among other things.

And Saul persecuting the Church and putting many to death for he thought the Church was not of God, but Saul loved the God of Israel, and Jesus met him and Saul straightway followed Him, and God changed his name to Paul, which you know he was forgiven, and saved, and Paul said he is the least of the saints for his terrible actions, but said God had mercy on him.

Believe me you have not done terrible things like some people in the Bible, or in life in general, and they were forgiven, and you said you are a good person, with sound morals and ethnics, so how bad could you have been.

Some people do not believe they are worthy to be forgiven, but in a way that is a good thing for someone beginning to understand truth, for that means they care to do what is right, and with time they will abandon that attitude, and know that they are worthy to be forgiven, but of course it is because of the Lord.

But someone that has been living for the Lord 10 years does not feel they are worthy to be forgiven is not right, for they have to forgive themselves, if they think that in the wrong perspective.

For we can think we are not worthy to be forgiven for we are ashamed of our actions in the past, but think that we are worthy to be forgiven because God said so if you get to the point in truth to be led of the Spirit, but if we think we are not worthy to be forgiven despite what God said then that would not be right, for we have to forgive ourselves for doing wrong, the same as forgive others for doing us wrong.

The only thing to say is you are worthy to be forgiven if you get in the truth, for God said you are worthy to be forgiven.

People go to jail, and they are set free, having paid their debt, and the jail did not say you are not worthy to be set free, but must remain here forever.

Children disobey their parents, and have punishment, but then it is over, and back in good graces with their parents, and their parents did not say you are punished forever, although some joke like that, or at least until they are 30 years old which seems to be the standard amount of time in their joking around.

How much more would God forgive us, which God said that parents being evil know how to give good gifts to their children, so how much more will God give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.

Jesus paid our debt so that we could be forgiven, for there is no way we could set ourselves free for we are born with a choice, so we will sin every now and then, and living in sin for we are born not knowing God, unless we come to the truth of God, so before we come to God we could not set ourselves free from jail because we could never pay our debt for our sins because they could never be forgiven without Jesus who is a sinless man who mediates between God and men.

But the Bible says that Lucifer, who became Satan to identify his new identity of evil, does not let his prisoners out of the prison house, for he keeps them in their forever if they do not come to the Lord.

Do not let Satan keep you in prison making you pay way more than you deserve to pay, but come to the Lord and be set free from that prison, for he said you are worthy to be forgiven.

None of us deserve the love God has poured out upon us, and the fact is that we were all born enemies of God, hostile to His ways, and prone to the ravages of sin and a sinful lifestyle. No, it is not always easy to forgive our trespasses once we see our selves as we truly are in the light of being wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked, yet we are told not to look back, for doing so makes one unfit for the kingdom. Look instead to the hope we have in Christ, Who gave His life as a ransom for many due to His great and everlasting love for us, that we may know we are saved from the penalty and consequence of our sin, through faith in His shed righteous blood on our behalf.

Absolution is a Catholic term, where a human priest grants so-called *absolution*. This is not taught in the Bible, but is a Catholic invention.

"Remission of sins" is the Bible term, and means the same as forgiveness or pardon of sins by God Himself, on the basis of the shed blood of Christ.

And it is frequently the case that we are unable to forgive ourselves, even though God has forgiven us.

God did not send His Son to die a torturous death for no reason- just to have it not work and result in saving no one. Every single person has committed sin- including those whom God has made righteous. It is this simple... "IF you are IN Christ ALL your sins are washed away." Not swept under the rug, but vanished, they no longer exist. Justified = "just if I'd never even sinned at all." HOWEVER, using Christ's sacrifice as a license to sin puts you out of Christ and your sins will no longer be washed away. "But if you sin willfully there no longer remains a sacrifice for your sins." All sin is willful, but sinning willfully means seeking to sin without goal or effort to stop.

Absolution just came to mind, it wasn't necessarily the exact definition I was looking for, the forgiveness of sin was key. In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best choice of words. I must confess I am currently unchristened and am still discovering myself and religion. It is somewhat confusing to know which sect of christianity would be for me, there are various options. Many of which appeal to me. Feel lost in a rabbit hole.

I understand what you said in your first post as well about the not looking back and looking to hope. And I really wish I could learn to do it. I know it to be true, but the putting it to practice bit takes some work, but here's hoping I get there.

All sin was paid for on the cross. If it was not. That sin can not be forgiven. That means their are some people who will never see life. Because they have commited those sins.

Scripture says all manner of sin will be forgiven. It does not equate some sins as worse. In fact. According to scripture. All sin is equal. The penalty of sin (all) is death. The gift of God is life (eternal)

Recieve the gift, and you are forgiven all.

Religion says we have to work off our sins, This is not from scripture.

You deserve to be punished forever. We all do. There is only ONE Way for our eternal debt, THAT WE CANNOT PAY, to be "absolved".

This is THE Gospel unto Salvation.

God wrapped Himself in human flesh in the Form of His Son Jesus Christ. Conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, suffered, was crucified, died to pay our sin debt, and was raised to life on the 3rd day.

Confess with your mouth Jesus IS Lord. Believe in your heart God raised Him to life. And you WILL be saved.

After that, the Holy Spirit will enter, seal, and sanctify you to the likeness of Jesus.

You don't have to try and find yourself. The Lord is knocking on your heart to come in. Accept Him and He will come in and dine with you.

Abandon ANY OTHER way that you can be saved. Holy Father, I pray Matthew will accept and believe this Gospel. In Jesus sweet Name I pray.

You are welcome! Learning to do something usually takes practice, no matter what it is Trusting God, or perhaps rather saying we trust God is easy: we have faith in His shed righteous blood on our behalf, we believe the Scriptures; yet life will relentlessly show us where we are not trusting, where our hearts really are, that which we idolize, where we wish to be in control etc, and this need not be a bad thing, as long as seeing yourself as you truly are is filtered through the love of God, for you know you are forgiven, even if sinful human beings are incapable of forgiving you for things you have done, or their inability to love unconditionally breaks your heart. Only God loves unconditionally. This is why we continually turn to Him, for nobody else can live up to our expectations, nor can we live up to the expectations of others, and we cannot even live up to our own expectations. We don't stop growing in this self awareness, and some would call it a life-long process of purification which is aided by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit of God.

I hope you are able to find a Bible-believing, Bible-teaching home church you can fall in love with. Following my conversion fourteen years ago, I was so hungry and thirsty for the revealed written Word of God that I regularly went to multiple churches all on a single Sunday I did eventually find one that I have stuck with for quite some time now. I love my spiritual fellowship! I pray you find fellowship that feeds your longing to be loved and known for who you are in Jesus Christ.

The Lord uses his word, the scriptures to increase the faith that Jesus plants in our hearts when we turn to him in repentance. The blood of Jesus is used to purge our consciences from dead works to serve the living God. So that we are able to even forgive ourselves and with a clear conscience sleep the sleep of the innocent.

Heb 9: 9 "Which was a figure for the time then present in which were offered gifts and sacrifices that could not make him that did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience."
Heb 9:14 "How much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot unto God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God."

That the Lord cleanses our consciences can be seen in the effect of that purging and we can see below that the Lord uses the scripture to produce that cleansing.

1 Jn 3:19-22 "And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall insure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then we have confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, that we should believe upon the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another as he gave us commandment."

Eph 5:26 "That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word."
