Hey Everyone,
I don't watch movies all that often, but I finally broke down and watched Inception, and I confess, it was mostly because of all the hype. I didn't even know what the movie was about when I picked it up, so after watching it, I was interested in discussing some of the main concepts I found intriguing (i.e., choosing reality vs. choosing a dream) with a few co-workers...
To my surprise, every guy I asked (different age ranges, social groups, etc.) had the same reaction of horror and disgust: "You mean the movie with that guy from Titanic? If I had a choice between watching one of his movies and sudden death, I'd choose death. Twice."
I was genuinely shocked by this. Now, I understand that the guy may be a little overexposed (I'm more of a Christian Bale fan myself, because of the diversity of the roles he plays), and I understand that there may be the feeling that Mr. DiCaprio may not be the best actor out there, but, I was just curious... how much of it is just plain old jealousy? Do guys see the high school jock who gets all the girls in Mr. DiCaprio, and feel some small triumph in shunning everything he does?
I was wondering if the ladies out there have the same reaction to similar "it girl" actresses: Megan Fox, Scarlett Johansson, etc. Do women protest extremely attractive females by banning their movies as well?
I know we all profess our Christian faith and talk about our higher standards of living because of our beliefs, but I'm always interested in what people say vs. what people do (myself included.) Growing up in Christian schools, Sunday school, vacation Bible school, church camps, etc., I always found it interesting how extremely attractive people were treated--either as idols, or else as objects of scorn and sometimes, very unfair rumors (i.e., some of the most popular girls being called slang promiscuous names by other girls and sometimes guys out of spite and not truth.)
What do you all think? And how do you react to really good-looking people? Or, are you one of the good-looking people, and how have others reacted to you?
And of course... there is also the original question presented by this thread--why is there so much disdain out there for poor old Leo?
