if you found an inventive genie (not a single hypothetical invention escape it's capability) that is only capable of granting one wish and that one wish is an invention, what will that invention be?

as a restriction: you are not allowed to trick the genie in any way shape or form to grant you infinite wish, nor can you cheat and ask for more than one invention

so, you can only choose one, obey the restriction and make this count, so choose wisely.

as another restriction: no one is allowed to give cliched answers like "time machine", we want some creative insightful answers

so let's think big and start from the most idealistic (the height of fantasy), and work our way down to the most realistic ...

I'm curious to see what creative wonders we can come up with

A bible thumping robot, that was filled with the word, that was capable of picking up our emotional and mental needs and would give us spiritual wisdom that we needed at any given moment.

Or the ability to sit and talk with some one facetime or on skype in a way that it was like they were in the same room, kinda like a hologram.

No it's not science fiction, but you did say the height of fantasy...

Star trek teleporter (modified for terrestrial use, probably with integrated GPS and google maps or something like that).

I want to see the time machine invented. Then I want a full auto dry cleaner that you just stroll through with all of your clothes on and then be as clean as garments washed in the blood of the Lamb when you’re done.

Good one, I would like something that sorts and folds laundry, lol

Is flying cars the obvious one? We were promised those would be here 20 years ago 😝

I think safety and accident response to flying cars could be pretty fascinating. Finding a way to fly to work but not have a fender bender or running out of gas mean near instant death.

An engine\generator combo that is powered by the earths magnetic field.

The engine would power our vehicles, meaning no need for gas.

Connect it to the generator to power homes, factories, and hospitals.

If anyone creates this, all I want is 20%.

awesome, just like a car wash, where the car just drive in, this invention will be like automatic laundry and automatic shower all in one, this can really increase the "standard of living" and incase if we need to prevent the detergent from affecting the human skin, then we can go back to the "old ways" of using that ancient "energystar" washing machine, with what CharliRenee suggested to be an upgrade "auto-sort, and fold" ...

if the special soap is skin friendly, and effectively clean clothes, by all means, let's enter the machine and enjoy living the "higher standard of living"

awesome, this can avoid a lot of unnecessary traffic jam

less traffic jam = less pollution, lower risk of car accidents, and many wonderful benefits from all this

if we are limited to only 2 spots, most likely, from as close to your home, to as close to your workplace as possible, as the two most frequently "visited" places in the majority of your entire life

incase of any "privacy issue" or risk of "home invasion", having the two teleporters, between a big parkinglot to another big parkinglot that's close to your workplace might become a necessary inconvenience for the sake of safety (too bad, we live in a fallen world)

while we won't be able to have this accident risk-reducing, air-pollution-reducing star-trek teleporter, we can work with "flying cars" as a "bridge" which is still better than normal cars but not as good as star-trek teleporters

Is flying cars the obvious one? We were promised those would be here 20 years ago 😝

if flying cars can be compared to "giant drones", first of all, news have talked about how humans abuse these "drones" to the point where "drones" are considered banned and illegal.

the Flying Cars should at least be policed with GPS tracking device and some security measures, or, forget about flying cars, try "flying public transportation" like "flying bus", or "flying trains", to minimize abuse. Taxi might risk abuse, but before taxi, I think pipe-line replacement of 18-wheeler box trucks for commercial purposes ...

first, it's military, then business, where we wil see "flying 18-wheeler box trucks", before "flying public transportation", till we become trustworthy with "flying taxi", or become trustworthy enough for drone-like "flying cars"

speed limit regulation can be an issue, because not everyone are "jet-pilots"

lots of implications to think of

the reaction to this idea would be

as long as the magnetic field doesn't affect computers, or the human brain, or how iron flows on the human body

I read somewhere that the earth receives about 1 billion-th of the sun's radiating energy
or, 0. 000 000 001 of the sun's radiating energy, so therefore, feel free to send solar-paneled satellites, up there and figure out ways to do this energy efficiently (ie: using earth magnetic fields, maybe)

incase of those energy source seems "long distance", those army of satellites can have mirrors that can reflect sunlight, like magnifying glass concentrating sunlight

on second thought, keep this kind of power away from the wrong hands of evil at all cost.

but imagine the heat-like energy, save a lot of unnecessary coal burning, and generators to power up cities can be more eco-friendly, or, what Rod is saying, magnetic field powers up cities through main power-plants, it might be able to compete with nuclear energy, and possibly safer, and everything else is safe for the city, for that ...

I would like an invention called a 'mobile sleeping pod' that would work to eradicate homelessness. Basically anyone without somewhere to sleep in the evening would be able to call upon one of these pods. When they got inside they'd be shower, sleeping and food facilities. The pods would hover in the sky to avoid congestion on the streets and have their own solar and wind power and be completely self sufficient.

what if the soap is not just "skin friendly" but eco friendly as well, that machine that people can walk inside, can have pipes that will transfer used soap and water for automatic watering of plants, and what if that garden is growing organic plants that is the main ingredient for that skin friendly detergent? just have the machine to process the plant into soap, and have machines be powered by earth's magnetic field, and the machine that wash when people walk in there can also wash bedsheets, pillows, quilts, matresses, you name it!

wow, what an invention!
if only this invention can become reality **sigh dreamily**

The thing about this is that if you drive past the equator that car would start to go in reverse. 20% is reasonable but personally I would settle for 10% and call it good.

I ain't driving that far... ;)

there's a switch on the cars dashboard that will let you reverse the polarity. It's all good now!
