Hey Everyone,

I'm sure everyone knows the holiday song, "It's the most wonderful time of the year," but for many, it is also the loneliest time of the year.

I know that one of the things I've struggled with in the past is not having anyone to talk to on major days of the year when it's supposedly all about being surrounded by family and friends.

Maybe we can keep each other company today and throughout the holiday week. :) Although I am writing this thread with singles and/or people who are alone today in mind, anyone and everyone is welcome to participate.

1. If you are single and/or alone on the holidays, what do the holidays mean to you? (You can also post if you're not single or alone... Maybe you could tell us what you or your family have done to help others who are alone during the holidays?)

* I know that for me, a holiday usually means either an extra day of work or an extra day of sleep, which can definitely be a blessing!

2. What do you plan to cook or eat today? Do you make or get yourself something special, or will it be like most any other day?

* I just got myself a frozen Tostino's pizza--milk chocolate covered cherries--so please don't judge. :D (For me, this is definitely a treat!)

3. What are your plans for the rest of the day? Will you be watching any favorite shows, and if so, which ones?

* I'm planning on watching a lot of YouTube about Frances Glessner Lee, the first lady of forensic science :), and a very cool-looking channel I just found about breeding reptiles and some of the various genetic combinations. :D

Therefore, I plan to fill my Thanksgiving with pizza, chocolate, investigating homicides, and snakes--which is a pretty good glimpse into how my brain works when it's given free time. :D

How about the rest of you? Whether you'd like to stop in and tell us about the big game you're planning on watching (complete with periodic updates and scores), or if you'd just like to have some fellowship with others on Thanksgiving, any post is welcome.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

You make a lot of great threads. They are always really thoughtful.

1. Holidays for me are for spending time with family. I usually feel some loneliness when they roll around, especially if I can’r work. My mom died about 5 and a half years ago, and my family has gone its separate way since then. We used to get together at my mom’s house before then.

We did go all in on a couple of dinners the first year after she died. That first Christmas, we decided to use whatever money we were going to spend on presents to bring our favorite holiday food to dinner. We also polled some money together to get a prime rib from a butcher. It was expensive but tasted amazing.

We met at the house I owned at the time.

2. I bought a ham to eat today. I was going to try mashed cauliflower, but completely spaced it. I usually don’t do anything special, but decided to go ahead and give it a try this year after reading your other thread about Thanksgiving favorites.

3. I’m going to take my dog over to the park, and then I may watch football or play some games. I have to make sure things are up and happy at work st some point, but I can do that from home.

Oh, and I might play some guitar later, too. I haven’t worked on any new songs for a couple of weeks. I have to study at some point, but I might put that off until tomorrow so I can just enjoy today.

I'm so sorry about your mom. :( I think it's awesome that your family was able to put their resources together into a memorable meal that is clearly remembered and cherished. :)

And now I'm inspired by your inspiration. I have never made a ham for myself before, but maybe I'll try that next. I have made mashed cauli before and was amazed by how much they LOOK like mashed potatoes... but taste? Eh, not so much. :) Maybe yours will turn out better than my attempt!

I'm sure your dog will be very happy, and guitar is always cool. What are you studying, if I may ask?

Thank you for the kind comment. I feel like that's one of the things God has put in front of me during this time in my life... Trying to connect other singles with each other so they have someone to talk to, and help each other through the especially lonely times.

I have a friend whose family always inspires me very much because they are ALWAYS doing things for others. Someday, even if I'm not single, I hope to always keep a few extra places open at the table for those who don't have a gathering to attend.

Thanks. I have never tried mashed cauliflower. I am eating keto to deal with diabetes, lose weight and because I feel so much better this way. That’s two not so great experiences with mashed cauliflower so I might juat skip it. Lol.

I am studying software development. It took forever to decide on a major because I enjoy too many topics. For a long time I was a poli sci major, but decided it wasn’t going to be good for money unless I got a PhD. I do build engineering and like it,. A degree will help open doors caree wise though. Now that I am a semester away, I debating getting an MS.

I’m also reading a ton of paychology books to aort myself out, so that is also fun.

That’s really cool. I have a friend who is a lawyer that decided to open his own practice and focus on family law. We both came from broken and neglectful/abusive childhoods, and he had a bad marriage to an alcoholic. He is using that experience to help him connect to others going through a rpufh time. I have been thinking that is sort of what is missing in my career, or free time. I don’t know if I could do something similar with my interests, or maybe volunteering or something.

Your openness and transparency are quite refreshing. I too am sorry for your loss. Holiday hugs in Christ. God Bless you and yours.

Thanks. I’m not sure if it is oversharing or being vulnerable? Or maybe worrying less about approval seeking? Like Popeye, I yam what I yam.

I need to proof read more when I am typing on my phone or tablet. So many painful typos.

And now I'm wondering what would happen if a yam said, "I yam... a sweet potato."

Next up: "When Spuds Have an Identity Crisis..."

I'm not alone, but I'm single. Does that qualify me to post in this thread? I'm with my mother, stepfather and half brother.

Even if not, howdy anyway.

Thanksgiving is a long weekend off :D. Its the first break I've had in several months and I was ready for it.

My Mom stayed in town, so I had dinner with her. The kids are having dinner at their Moms house.

Seoul, frozen pizza sounds good. Moose tracks ice cream would be a great dessert though. (Just sayin...)

3. What are your plans for the rest of the day? Will you be watching any favorite shows, and if so, which ones?

1. Worked on the mowers.
2. Cleaned up a bit.
3. Though I don't like working on cars, I had to get under mine for a look around. Just routine stuff.
4. Looking online at binoculars. Astronomy is a hobby of mine, and the kids enjoy it too. Can't get a decent telescope ($$$), so a good pair of binoculars should do fine.

So I don't celebrate Thanksgiving but Happy Thanksgiving to my continental cousins.

1. I'm single but not alone. I do sometimes wish I had a significant other to enjoy holidays and important days with. I normally get the day off work on a bank holiday etc so that's nice because I get another day of rest.

2. Well it's nearly midnight here but tomorrow I'll be having fish and chips for dinner as is tradition in my family.

3. Well there's only 10 minutes left so not much but tomorrow I'm gonna see if I can do some journalling.

Happy Holidays

Ah yes. Few can resist the siren call... of the moose. :)

Unfortunately, I have a complicated relationship with ice cream. As much as I love it, I can down a pint in about 3 spoonfuls so it will feel like I haven't really eaten anything--and if I buy a regular container, it's all over. :D

I try to stick to a rule I've made for myself on ESRY (Eat Something Really Yummy) Days--I try to buy items/sizes that will survive for only one day, so that tomorrow I can hopefully hop right back on track. Wishful thinking sometimes, but alas, I had to pass the moose on by (even though it felt like an entire herd was calling.)

And, star-gazing sounds like the perfect way to end the day.

Hi Kaps!

Welcome to CC and Season's Greetings from across the pond!

One of the things on my (hopeful) bucket list someday is to try to visit every country in the United Kingdom.

For one, I love the way people talk there; and secondly, I'm thinking I haven't really lived until I've tried a proper fish and chips. :)

And as for writing (journaling, in this case), there's nothing quite like allowing the thoughts in your mind to flow from your head down into your fingers, and then spilling over onto a set of fresh, clean pages.

Hope you've had a terrific day. :)

Well thanks seoul. Ah we're not all that really. It depends what accent you're on about because there's a fair few and some regional dialects mixed in as well.

Now fish and chips has been a hot topic for the last few days and yes we do have the best fish and chips in the world. We're not good at many things but we're good at fish and chips and drinking tea.

Have a lovely holiday....day. :D

Hi CharliRenee!

Thank you so much for the kind words.

I understand what you're saying about feeling. Isn't it a strange feeling... to be thankful and yet sad at the same time? The other day I was telling God about a situation... It's been quite a year, hasn't it? And here I was telling God about all these things--that He certainly already knew about.

I guess I just wanted to fill in a few details just in case He'd missed something.

Thank you for reminding us to not just look ahead in life, but most important, Above. :)

I greatly appreciate your kindness, and I hope you've had a peaceful, relaxing day.
