DC Comics Turns Jesus Into a New Superhero – But There's a Big Problem
CBNNEWS.COM
1-8-2019 - Emily
Jones

DC Comics has a new superhero and His name is Jesus.

DC Vertigo will star Christ Himself in an upcoming comic series called Second Coming, which features Jesus returning to earth on a mission to "set the gospel straight," the plot summary reads. The series, written by Mark Russell and illustrated by Richard Pace, will debut in March 2019.

But Second Coming is closer to blasphemous than biblical. Instead of a biblical account of Christ's return, it depicts Jesus as a failure who disappointed God by getting crucified when he first walked the earth. He is sent back to learn how to be a real Messiah by learning from the superhero "Sun-Man."

"An all-powerful superhero, named Sun-Man, has to share a two bedroom apartment with Jesus Christ. The conceit is that God was so upset with Jesus's performance the first time he came to Earth, since he was arrested so soon and crucified shortly after, that he has kept him locked-up since then," Mark Russell said in an interview with Bleeding Cool.

While announcing the series' debut last year, illustrator Richard Pace said Sun-Man "is like the varsity quarterback son God never had."

Jesus is not omniscient in this series, but is totally clueless about what has happened on earth since he left.

"God was so upset with the fact that he got crucified last time that he wouldn't even let him look through the celestial keyhole at earth to keep up," said Russell in the Bleeding Cool interview. "He doesn't know how sideways things have gone until he's come down to Earth and sees it himself."

When Jesus returns, He is shocked at how Christians have misinterpreted the gospel, Russell explains.

" [Second Coming] is about Jesus coming down and being appalled by what he sees has been done in his name by Christianity in the last two thousand years. He goes by a megachurch and they have a billboard of this Tom Brady-looking Jesus Christ throwing a football and he doesn't even recognize himself which is a metaphor for him not recognizing what's been done with the religion that bears his name," he said the Bleeding Cool interview.

The series depicts Jesus "setting the gospel straight" by teaching Christians who He really is – an identity that Russell never fully explains himself in the interview.

Russell believes Christianity's got it all wrong.

"The Christian religion doesn't really base itself on what he taught, particularly in the modern Evangelical megachurches. They have him more as a mascot on t-shirts to prove they're on the winning team," he said.

The series is expected to have six issues.

Mark Russel is the same guy who wrote the book, "God is Disappointed in You."

In that book Russel rewrote the entire Bible, in cartoon form, giving the world what he claimed to be the "real" message of the Bible.

Seriously?
Oh, but it gets better.
Russel is the same man who writes the modern Flintstone comic series.
Yes, the same man who writes the Flintstones just got up one day, and decided he was magically qualified to rewrite the entire Bible, to explain what it REALLY meant.

(I couldn't find many pastors or Christian organizations reviewing the book, because it's apparently too stupid for anyone to bother with.)

Thanks Maxwel :)

Mark looks like someone who may say/do things to get a reaction (to drum up extra business for his books/magazines, and to make a TON of $$ to boot, of course). Whatever his motivations are, he probably doesn't realize what kind of 'fire' he is playing with.

Here he is:

You've just gotta love it when non-Christians attempt to interpret the Bible

14 A natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

Hello, Deuteronomy;

Thank you for sharing and pointing this out. Sadly, when the unreached interpret the Bible they will back it up with worldly justifications. "It's only fiction" or "entertainment" or "being imaginative/artistic". Later they will forget all about it.

I'll research this but please keep us posted?

Its good to meet you and am enjoying your posts.

God bless you, Deuteronomy, and your family.

He isn't exactly wrong on that score. The megachurches preaching happy, happy, happy and you can have a Beamer, mansion and private jet if you just vow me a thousand dollars are false preachers. A quote from one of the old saints says "If Jesus preached what preachers do today,He'd have never been crucified." These megachurches and tv evangelists are so false even the world sees it. smh

I've heard one of those TV deeceevers say, "Jesus was crucified because He didn't have enough faith".

Sadly some today who are professing Christ just don't care too much about false gospels, nor do they care too much for those who oppose false gospels and other errors. But it has always been this way.

It's all bout appeasement, love, unity and compromise. As long as we embrace this Russell guy and others with love, peace and unity, see his message as only a differing opinions, then nothing else matters, right? It's about love! Now, would anyone like to offer up a prayer of peace, love and unity in the form of a mild rebuke of those who defend truth?

Lolzzz...

It's things like that that I'm talking about. They deceive so many people. Except for one or two I never watch tv evangelists. They preach one thing and do another.

The creators at DC are almost all youngish liberal people. They have a very different perspective on Christianity then us.
Furthermore they understand that the large base of their readers will not really take much offense to this, if at all.
And like it was said, the publicly is good for them.
