Correction is a good thing, but If correcting others with arrogance, lacking kindness and humility is your thing, I think the one needing correction is you.

"Boast no more so very proudly, Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; For the Lord is a God of knowledge, And with Him actions are weighed.
1 Samuel 2:3 NASB

Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord ; be assured, he will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:5 ESV

"Scoffer" is the name of the arrogant, haughty man who acts with arrogant pride.
Proverbs 21:24 ESV

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
Romans 12:16 ESV

They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
Psalms 17:10 ESV

The haughty looks of man shall be brought low, and the lofty pride of men shall be humbled, and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
Isaiah 2:11 ESV

One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
Proverbs 29:23 ESV

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Luke 14:11 ESV

I'd rather fall and land in humility, than rise to heights of arrogance. Humility is a God thing. He will get us there, one way or another.

We are to lovingly admonish and correct others, for sure. My point is not to bash keeping it real, standing in His truth. We are called to be the salt and the light. I just think we must not negate the importance in a delivery given with humility and loving-kindnrss. His truth includes those attributes. Treating others with dignity, decency and kindness is often seen as sugar coating or insincere kissing up. I find it a shame that warmth and hospitality are considered weak or insincere, when He called us to love one another with mercy.

It is possible and productive to be honest with compassion and humility.

I pray that I have not offended. I am far too aware of my own shortcomings to feel that I am the authority. I am so thankful for His authority. I just feel compelled to remind myself and others that It isn't only others that need correction.

Thanks for the gentle reminder for us all...
While 'arrogance' is a strong term - this topic touches very close to home on so many fronts to me personally (today)...
Part of me recognizes that the message may fall on 'deaf ears' for those who are in need of receiving this message. Unfortunately, I assume some will perceive this like 'preaching to the choir' - and assume themselves to be members of the choir and possibly presume that this message does not necessarily pertain to them. But if we are all being completely honest with ourselves we are all in need of self-reflection every now and then as well...
Thanks again, and God Bless

I agree completely. I figured it was probably not going to be well received, not to mention that the length itself was a problem. I also understand that it comes off as just another soap boxy, Mama like, lecture. It is just a topic that I feel passionate about, so I really appreciate that you took the time to read and respond with truth and kindness. Btw, I am not immune to arrogance either. I too need to examine my actions and thoughts as well. I am not calling out ppl as much as I am the lack of humility in all of us.

Hi charli,

Ah, i see 3 proverbs you got t here. Proverbs is a book i like to return to, and it has much to say on arrogance and pride. I pray the words are really speaking to me and all who read, as it is easy to be proud when we see we are being giving, prayerful, righteous, or what... but God shows it is all from Him, our ability to give, pray, be upright before Him, so there is nothing to be arrogant or boast about.

God resists the proud but gives grace unto the humble, so if you get arrogant then God cannot use you like He wants, which Paul was given a thorn in the flesh so that he would not exalt himself above measure for the abundance of revelations God showed him, and working mightily in his life.

But of course I have been guilty of posting improper, and getting short with people, but I do not like arrogance, and many others do not too.

I think it can be an adopted behavior over time for when I first was saved, and posted online, I did not post anything that would appear arrogant, saying nothing according to my flesh, but as years went by I would be a little more bold, and a little sarcastic.

Because that is how it can become with people that they do not start that way, but after debating for years with the belief that you think is the truth, which it can be, you get short with people for you think can't you get it through your bony head what I am posting, but that is the flesh although they might say truth.

What I do not understand is how people ignore scriptures, and interpret them that is not in the truth, for I might get sarcastic for their lack of wanting to hear the Bible the way it is written, and portrayed.

But then they will say but your interpretation is wrong, and what can you do with that, for you cannot prove it to someone that does not believe what you say, so you might lash out with an attitude, listen here dummy and take heed to what I post.

The thing is do we have the truth or not, which scriptures speak for themselves, and many people go by their denomination as they lay out the Bible interpretation for them, so they abide by that.

I am not going to say I am right in every interpretation of the Bible, and some things we may not grasp right away, so I suppose we should not post about it until we know for sure.

But the scriptures are plain what they say, but people still ignore them for their denomination.

God said He commands all people to repent, and come to the truth, and be saved, but they say not so.

Paul and James both say without charity, love in action, works, then your faith does not count, for charity is greater than faith, and faith works by love, which has to be done in action, which if not then you lack love, then you lack faith, but they say not so.

Jesus will reign on earth for 1000 years, for the LORD shall be king over all the earth, and in that day there shall be one LORD, and His name one, and the knowledge of the LORD shall fill the whole earth, but they say not so.

Paul said we do not void out the law through faith, but we live up to it, which a person can do by the Spirit, which a Spirit led life will abstain from sin, so they are not under the law, which the law cannot touch them for prosecution, but they say not so.

There are a lot of examples of how people ignore scriptures, and interpret them according to their denomination that already laid a foundation down for them, so after a while it can get on our nerves why don't they heed what the scriptures plainly teach.

They have been arguing over Paul and James concerning works, and they say the same thing, for Paul said without works of love they erred for the faith, like James said without works of love their faith is dead.

It is like you can post, thou shalt not steal, and someone will post but that only means on Sunday.

If we post a scripture that is plain to understand why are people ignoring it, and not giving heed to it, and people can get short with people after a while because they do not heed to it, but they might not of started that way getting short with people.

I think for the most part it is an adopted behavior through time of putting up with the nit wits, half wits, and dim wits, lol.

Oh true, I also appreciate a good discussion, especially when trying to look at all the scriptures. I get frustrated when ppl, including myself, disregard the scriptures presented, like you said, and only respond with ones that substantiate their views. This gets us no where. I am on a quest to find harmony within all the scriptures.
I do hear what you are saying, brother Matthew. I understand the frustration, truly I do.

Oh yes, Brother Mar, Proverbs is such a blessing. You are so right, it is all about Him. We all need Him desperately. He is our hope.

It is important to remain strong in our Love, and sometime this entails "tough" love from above.

The things our Father has done to demonstrate His love is heart rendering and "hard" to bear at times, but He assures we all get through it.... It is our work from Him.

Well...I think Jesus did get a bit frustrated when his disicples didnt grasp what he was saying he would say how long must I suffer...or do ye not know the scriptures....so thats understandable.

As for arrogance well,we can just look at Saul and the pharisees to see really bad examples of a zeal for God but and ignorant and unbelieving zeal, and they were arrogant about it! They didnt really grasp scriptures either and it was a mystery to them but they did act like they knew it all!

I think they looked down on others not just because they were in a position to do so (they got the upper seats in the synagogue) but cos they thought of themselves as better than others, they were self absorbed.

But see God doesnt want us to think highly of ourselves but to think of God who is higher than ourselves.

Check out the episode in acts 5 when the chief priests and saduccees and sandrehin tried to stop the apostles from preaching Jesus. peter and the apostles said 'we ought to obey God rather than men'

Then Gamiel a pharisee with a great reputation defended these apostles giving two examples of men who taught boasting of themselves Theudas and Judas and how both came to nothing. If what the apostles teach is of men it will come to nothing but if it is truly of God you cannot overthrow it and even find oneself fighting against God.

The pharisees agreed and beat up the apostles anyway. They then let them go saying dont teach in the name of Jesus

But you know what the apostles rejoiced that they got beaten up, and didnt stop preaching Jesus. :)

Yes, so heart rendering. We must remain strong in our love.

I think some of us get frustrated, then wonder how to respond in a way we can remain united.
