Where does this phrase come from, is it from the Bible?

How clean are we meant to be, and how can we stay clean. Does the Bible have any tips. Are we meant to wash everyday? What do we do with our waste?
Is being clean the same as being holy?

We, just as our deeds away from the Father, are not capable of cleaqning ourselves. We are truly cleaned of all, including wickedness, by the Blood of our Salvation, Yeshua.

As for holy, keepingourselves SEPARATE from the world is being holy, no big deal about it. Our Fassther is Holy, and we are too once w separaqte ourselves from the world in Jesus. We are that peculiar people………….in Christ always and forever , amen.

It's not from the Bible.

There are laws about physical washing in the Old Testament; these were tied to spiritual cleanliness and purification. There aren't any laws about physical washing in the New Testament.

What about washing peoples feet. JEsus did that and widows were meant to do that. Didn't someone wash Jesus feet with her hair??? How is that possible.

If you google it, it says John Wesley (1703 -1791) first used the phrase in a sermon.

How often you wash is a personal decision but should take into account consideration for others and your own health needs. Today, physical washing is not directly related to anything spiritual. In the past, physical washing was an illustration of getting right with God, the need to deal with sin etc.

Thats what I read. Although its not found in the Bible, I believe it makes perfect sense. Like how can one feel comfortable living in filth?

It does not come from the Bible..

Physical cleanliness is not the same thing as being Holy..

The Bible says we are washed by the Blood of Jesus..

Revelation 1: KJV
4 "John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; {5} And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,"

Having said all that, we should persue physical cleanliness for it's practical health and social benifits.. :) But it plays no part in our eternal salvation..

The washing of feet was a common practice in first-century Israel. Most people wore sandals, so the dust would accumulate, and when people came indoors they would remove their sandals. Foot washing was a menial task, usually done by servants or even slaves, for those who had them. When Jesus washed the feet of the disciples, He was showing them how to interact with each other... with humility. He didn't establish a law for it, but a principle.

In our modern culture, and outside of the tropics, foot washing seems irrelevant because we usually wear socks, and wash our bodies more frequently. It still may be practiced occasionally for a specific reason though.

No, it doesn't come from the Bible.

Being clean on the outward has absolutely nothing to do with being pure in heart. Jesus had dirty feet and He and the disciples ate before they washed their hands.

In Matthew 15, it's written:

Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law from Jerusalem came up to Jesus and asked Him, “How come Your disciples are breaking the elders’ traditions of eating before they wash their hands?” Jesus answered, “Why do you break God’s commandments for the sake of keeping your own traditions? God told you to honor your parents and that if you cursed them, you should be executed. But you guys say anyone can declare something as a 'devotion to God' and you dishonor your parents by withholding it from them. You are hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied, 'These folks talk about honoring God, but their hearts aren’t anywhere near Him. Their worship is worthless because they teach mere human rules.'"

Didnt. JEsus say to the Pharisees to wash inside the cup first rather than the outside. I also remember him saying they were like whitewashed tombs...inside full of dead mans bones.

As for not washing feet in modern times, what about washing socks...? And revelation says our robes will be white and clean. So clearly some laundry is going on...

Are you skipping church to clean your house? Much of the Law had to do with health matters and society construct. White is just a symbol of purity. Look at John the Baptist. I hardly think he would have looked clean (mind you he spent a lot of time in the water) but it was he chosen to baptize the Lord.

we are spirit soul and body

body is the temple - so that to do it spiritual abode of the HoSP you need keep it holy

it is two sources of uncleanness - from outside and from inside

but both likewise do unclean the body - to be clean wash oneself body and after sunset becoming clean

to make clean spirit one need to have HoSP

and to clean the soul -one have to reject it and subdue

No..why do you say that?
I only skip church if I have a cold and dont want to spread it to anyone else.

I just wondered where that phrase came from... if John wesley said it he must have said it for a good reason. Maybe there were lots of dirty people, or churches around I dont know.

why would John the baptist not have looked clean. What makes you think that he didnt look clean. Just cos he wore camels hair clothes which is a tan colour doesnt mean he wasnt clean...

So true! People could take an acid bath and it would not make them holy, nor bring them any nearer to God. Only the blood of Christ can do that. And the washing of feet was/is an act of humility.

The saying "cleanliness is next to godliness, is just one of those made up sayings.

People said John wesley said it, if so what was the context. Wesley was a christian so it must have been in relation to Christ I would think. What was the point he was trying to get across?
 
When people have a view written or repeated written by others, they are not here to "discuss."

The only exception to this type of hinderence would be the Word, for the Holy Spirit teaches all.
