Been pondering and examining humility, as it applies to our relationship and usability with the Most High...
Then Moses said to the Lord , “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”
EXODUS 4:10 NASB
And Abraham replied, “Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes.
GENESIS 18:27 NASB
Saul replied, “Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel, and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then do you speak to me in this way?”
1 SAMUEL 9:21 NASB
Then David the king went in and sat before the Lord and said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?
1 CHRONICLES 17:16 NASB
Solomon said to God, “You have dealt with my father David with great lovingkindness, and have made me king in his place. Now, O Lord God, Your promise to my father David is fulfilled, for You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this great people of Yours?”
2 CHRONICLES 1:8-10 NASB
Thus says the Lord , “Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest? For My hand made all these things, Thus all these things came into being,” declares the Lord . “But to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.
ISAIAH 66:1-2 NASB
Then I said, “Alas, Lord God ! Behold, I do not know how to speak, Because I am a youth.”
JEREMIAH 1:6 NASB
Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 CORINTHIANS 12:7-10 NASB
Introspection, as it pertains to self examination, is such a slippery slope. It can be a tool for honesty of who we are and are not in comparison to who He is and what He is not. He is without limits and He is not Human. We are bound by what we are and are not, which is human. He is deity, while we are flesh and bones. He has authority, we have none outside of Him. See, that is healthy and accurate, right? However, our focus must remain on and in Him, not just who we are in Him. This has been something I am still working through in my head, avoiding the to and fro tossed about ideas. With His guidance, I seek to grow. So bear with me, as I think out loud...not intending to elevate my thoughts or preach to you Brothers and Sisters.
Anyway...
There is a line of humility that should keep our hearts humbled before Him, but that in His Victory, we are able stand boldly before Him.
As a wretched sinner, I have spent a great deal of time (ugh@time wasted), reflecting and lamenting, whilst hanging myself on the cross, instead of focusing on His time on the cross. Through His great patience in dealing with a mind set on thinking of itself in regards to Him, He has interjected Himself beyond myself, Praise His Holy Name. He is helping me realize that there is work to be done on my part, yes. It is, however, by meditating on His work, then taking the assignment given to me, walking out the tasks given, following His lead every step of the way. Not who am I, what am I, how am I, but who is He, what is He, and How does He...
I notice that all the influential leaders in the word had humility, they realized that of themselves it was impossible to do what was asked. They took their humble estate and turned to the One and Only, the great I Am, who for whatever reason chose them. Even Christ Himself came as a humble servant. They didn't spend their time in their insufficiency, in who they were or were not, but in His sufficiency, in Him alone.
May our hearts kneel before Him, for we are merely vessels to be used for His Will and Purposes. I don't know about you but for me I get chill bumps of honor, thinking about this privilege He gives and allows us. May we never take Him or our calling lightly. Oh Lord, Lord, we thank You and praise Your Holy Name.
