Twenty years ago when I moved here large chunks of Colorado were conservative with a clump of liberals in the Boulder/Denver metro area. Due to mass migration from California and other liberal states this state has swung hard left in recent years.

Those that I'm hearing from are mostly conservatives :LOL:, though our state (Maine) isn't much better in that sense.

If you ever get into Lancaster county pa, the Amish are always a tourist trap.

And a favorite place of mine is Rough and Tumble historic engineers association. https://www.roughandtumble.org

Just make sure it's open if you visit.

I have been to 32 states so I need 18 more to cross off my list. My favorite state is Tennessee because of its scenic beauty and also because of the change of seasons. I lived there for 3 years in the early 80's and hope to relocate there, probably in Gatlinburg, within a year. Having lived in Florida for over 25 years I miss the change of seasons. I'm not really a big fan of winter bur in Tennessee there is some winter but usually on the mild side. Some snow and ice but by mid-Feb it starts transitioning into spring.

My wife and I would like very much to go to Alaska one day in the next few years. Probably take a scenic cruise. She already has been to Hawaii but that is one state I probably won't get a chance to see, but you never know. I lived in Maine for 8 years and that state has beautiful fall coloration. Of course, the winter's are brutal and the summers short. Nice spring though.

My only feast in New Mexico was a stop at a Dairy Queen for lunch in Albuquerque. They screwed up and gave me an extra Double Brazier burger for free. The fries were lame but the fruit slush was refreshing seeing how it was over 100 degrees in the shade in the middle of August.

I don't live too far from it. I've seen it many times since I was a child so it's not all that spectacular to me, but here is some info. on it:
Moonbow
During or near a full moon on clear nights, a lunar rainbow or moonbow is sometimes formed by the water of the falls. The formation of a moonbow at Cumberland Falls is aided by a combination of steep gorge walls, which reduce dissipation of the waterfall's mist by wind, and a wide gorge which allows increased levels of moonlight.

It is the only location in the Western Hemisphere where moonbows are known to appear with regularity, and the Kentucky Department of Parks publishes schedules for visitors.

The ability of visitors to see a moonbow may vary with water level. At low levels, the falls may not produce sufficient mist for the phenomenon. Conversely, if conditions include substantial downstream wind, this may increase the level of mist and make a moonbow more likely to be visible.

Cumberland Falls is the second largest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains, and the largest waterfall as measured by water volume in the Eastern United States, south of Niagara Falls. The falls divides the river into two sections, the Upper and Lower, or "below the falls" section.

Yeah i would not want to go in the winter either. My daughter and her family will deployed there for 3 years in Alaska next year, so maybe soon. I think that would be wonderful for you and your wife to go on a cruise. I know that would be so fun. Yeah Maine, it must be over the moon gorgeous. And about Hawaii, hey it might happen. It is cool that she has been to Hawaii

That sounds awesome! What a blessing to have traveled to 32 states. I love how different the states are. I will always love home (Maine) for the same reasons that you love Tennessee, the beauty and change of seasons, though winter here was very long this year. I really enjoyed my time in Tennessee, but I was mostly visiting friends, so I didn't see too many places while visiting.

I pray that you will both get the opportunity to visit Hawaii someday. I was able to go in February and it truly was incredible!

So I went to Florida with my sister and her family, we were in all the tourist areas and I didn't enjoy it. Which part of the state would you recommend?

Should check out freshwater springs if you are in Florida. Imagine a giant hole in the ground where the aquifer just sort of got mad at being contained below the earth and decided to punch through to the surface ;)

But really, they are gorgeous. Clearer water than the keys due to no saline content. Clearer than a chlorinated pool.
Lots of fish and sometimes manatees in the larger ones in the winter.

It's somewhat of a hidden thing in Florida and even a good bit of natives I'd met when I was in school had only seen 1 or 2.

Silver springs is about the only "touristy" spring although it is the largest.

The thing about Maine is that I lived there from 2005 to 2014 in Rockland. I was married to my second wife at the time living in Florida, lost my career job and the place we were renting was to be sold. She wanted to go home to Maine after living in Florida since 2002 when we got married, to be with her parents who were getting up in years. My wife was in declining health, bad economic climate due to Maine having an anti-job bias, step kids draining me, her brothers cheating me out of money, etc. She died prematurely at the age of 59 in 2014. Lost everything before I left for good for Florida where my family lives in Orlando.

Maine is very scenic but the winters are brutal and the summers too short. Hard to earn a decent living there, high cost of living, especially food. Maine was a nightmare for me. I don't anticipate ever going back.

As far as Florida is concerned I recommend Orlando as that is a 24/7/365 type of place and where Walt Disney World is and Universal. I lived an hour from Disney and Universal Studios and have been there many times with my daughter and my family. Place is awesome. Yeah, basically the whole state of Florida is geared towards tourists. I am currently living in Clearwater which is next to Tampa / St. Petersburg. Not really too touristy but plenty of traffic congestion.

So coincidental reading this just now
Not more then 15 minutes ago I was counting the states I have been to.
Not traveled through or had a layover in, but actually spent time in.
Actually a bit of a haughty thought on my part, kinda like David doing the census.
Anyway, I liked Utah and Colorado. Both beautiful states.

Been to 28 states.we were flying over Teaxas earlier today. The skies were very clear, a d wow, not like I didn't know it. And I've seen it before, but wow, loads of open farm land.
Beautiful.
Texas, Kansas, some of the bible belt states. To me they are the heart and soul of the country. And this coming from a native New Yorker.

I can understand not wanting to return to Maine. Sounds like a heart wrenching time in your life.

I will return to Florida someday, as I have family there. Perhaps my next visit will be more enjoyable. The springs that someone mentioned earlier sound fun. 🙂
