Last race to be held there over the 4th of July weekend. The race will move to Indy next year. For those who have an interest in Nascar racing.

When nascar stopped with cars based on what was for sale on the dealers show room, I stopped being a fan.
I remember the old days of 427 Chevys, 429 Fords, and 426 Mopars.
Just ain't the same today.

I agree....had two of those old Mopars.....My fav was a 67 Satellite 2 door, low back bucket seats, red, white interior......

yes, there is nothing " stock" about stock car racing anymore, has not been for a long time...

Maybe not in professional NASCAR racing, but in the lower classes (hobby stock and street stock) they are still nothing more than street cars that have had a roll cage added and minimal allowable modification to the suspension and drive line.

The interesting thing is that stock car racing has it's roots in moonshine running during the prohibition era.

The changes from when the first Daytona race was actually run on the beach at Daytona, and today has to do with SAFETY. When cars can travel at speeds of over 200 MPH in a tightly bunched formation, it is essential to modify the cars for the safety of the drivers.

Look at all the drivers injured or killed, and the modifications NASCAR made to try and prevent such injuries/deaths in the future. Dale Earndhart is a prime example.

Look at the highlights of this last race and watch the huge 19 car wreck, and the destruction of the cars, and then imagine IF they were "street stock"........how many of the drivers would have walked away at all?

No serious injuries were reported after that carnage..............so I'm all for the modifications.

I understand the need for safety, but there is absolutely no similarity to stock cars in todays NASCAR.
There are no rear drive V8 Camrys for sale. And now we hear that Kia and Honda may build cars for NASCAR.
These are specially built race cars with special engines, not modifications.

Not really NASCAR any more in my opinion.
Don't care to watch any more.

I can understand how you feel.......especially when you consider that the Fords and Chevorlets racing in NASCAR are built in Mexico, and the Toyota's are built here in the US........ :)

The STOCK Ford/Chevorlet at the Dealership is really an Import from Mexico is it not? :)

Actually, every car racing in NASCAR is a specially built race car built in the US with no similarity to those imports sold in the showrooms, and that is my issue with NASCAR today.

A know that NASCAR is still very popular with many, but I have lost interest.

A lot of people have lost interest.........the Grandstands surely reflect the truth of that. :)

I was referring to the cars available to us to buy from our local Dealers when talking about them being built in Mexico. :) It really is kinda funny to know that here in Bama...... Fords and Chevys on the Dealers Lots are built in Mexico, but the Toyotas, Mercedes, and Hondas are built here in the US...........

Buy American?

To buy an American car you have to go to a foreign car dealer.

My 2005 Trail Blazer was actually built in the USA. One of the last.
My wife has a 55 Chevy 150 2-door with only 2 options--- heater/defroster and power-glide.
I think she loves that old Chevy more than she loves me ;)
