David, which was inspired and you are not...SPOKE OF HIS SALVATION IN THE PRESENT TENSE......I am so sick of deceivers that disregard the word of GOD while claiming to be a believer!!!!
Its quite a common belief among pastors but if you insist these are deceivers because you want to view issues as black and white, well everyone has a right to his opinion. :)

Nothing you said trumps the inspired word of GOD and what DAVID SAID which makes the BIBLE.........why is it so hard for you to just accept the truth and correction......serious!!

You know....JOB said....I KNOW my redeemer lives and that after the maggots had eaten his body he would STAND again at the last day and SEE his redeemer with his own EYES....

A few very BIBLICAL points to ponder.....

a. A LOST MAN could NOT SAY THIS
b. A LOST MAN could NOT EVEN understand this truth
c. THIS shows that HE UNDERSTOOD the resurrection
d. THIS shows that he UNDERSTOOD that he would have a NEW BODY
e. HE HAD TO BE SAVED to UNDERSTAND THESE truths because the NATURAL MAN cannot receive, know and or DISCERN spiritual truths as the Corinthian letter STATES

You see it that way and of course you have the right to that opinion.

For me, I view that truth among different people can be subjective depending on how they interpret scripture. What you hold as truth is actually an opinion you hold based on how you interpret the scripture.

Not hardly pal......David was clear....he said the JOY OF THY SALVATION in the present tense.....be honest or do not address me again...I am sick of people that trample all over the word of GOD while being dishonest with what the bible states.....and you are one of the worst on this site

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

AND before you jump on what is not said....he says the JOY of thy salvation.....NOT SALVATION

For me, there is no need to feel sick when debating on the Internet.

I just hold a sense of curiosity to understand why others think the way they do, and respect their thought process. There is no need to use terms like dishonest and liars when you are respecting other people's thinking processes.

"a sense of curiosity"

There were a lot of Israelites curious about Jesus. A lot of people are still curious today.

Tell that to Dathan, Korah and Abiram. Or Cain.

There seems to be a major misconception on this site by some when it comes to salvation in the O.T. I have heard numerous people say one could not be saved in the O.T. or Jesus is not found in the O.T. or some flippant false statement that faith plus works were required in the O.T. for one to be saved. This false....as we look to the following truths, be open to learning and instruction and simply accept these biblical truths.

a. JESUS said, "IN the volume of the book it is written of ME"
b. JESUS said, "Search the scriptures, for they are they that testify of ME" <-N.T. not written yet
c. Abraham told the rich man that his brothers had the LAW and the Prophets to KEEP them from coming to the place of torment

NOTE the AWESOME pictures of truth

1. God shedding the blood of animals and COVERING Adam and Eve's shame
2. The promise of a redeemer in Genesis 3:15
3. Abel in faith offering a lamb without blemish and spot by shedding blood
4. Noah in the ark <--sealed within and without with pitch
5. Noah sacrificing a CLEAN animal and offering the blood after being spared
6. Abraham offering Isaac
7. The institution of the Passover and shed blood and God passing over
8. The Brazen Serpent <--JESUS even references this one
9. The sacrifices and offerings under the law and what they point to
10. Rahab and the scarlet thread by faith and being preserved in the destruction of Jericho (She is in the lineage of JESUS)
11. Job KNEW his redeemer lives and would see him with his own eyes after he had rotted in the ground (he understood the resurrection)
12. David speaking of HIS salvation in the present tense in the Psalms
13. Ruth and the KINSMEN redeemer (she was a GENTILE)
14. The scape goat in the wilderness and OUR SINS being removed and forgotten
15. The ark of the covenant and the ANGELS not being able to see the LAW inside which condemns when the BLOOD was applied
16. MOSES (the LAW) not delivering the people but taking them RIGHT to the promise land and it taking a SAVIOR (Joshua) to deliver
17. The 53rd chapter of Isaiah pointing to the suffering messiah and us being HEALED by his stripes
18. The Priesthood of Melchizedek as referenced in Hebrews
19. Jonah three days and three nights in the whale's belly <--Referenced by JESUS
20. Zechariah and the PIERCED one
21. Habakkuk the JUST shall shall live by his faith
22. Moses striking the rock which represented Christ and LIVING WATER <---JESUS references this and this water springing up in us and it representing eternal life and never thirsting again
23. The name Emmanuel and GOD with US and the concept of this truth

THESE are off the top of my head......NO ONE will ever convince me that an O.T. saint could not see or understand the truth of redemption by blood through faith from the O.T......the WHOLE bible points to CHRIST and being justified BY FAITH is woven throughout the whole BIBLE...there is a plethora of other truths and like I said these are just off the top of my head.......
didn’t it take Noah about 100 years to build the ark, kind of sounds like he had to build his salvation.

By faith Hebrews states.....and GOD was the one that shut the door........!!
And it was Noah who built it, God didn’t build the ship for him of coarse God taught Noah how to build a proper keel but Noah had to apply the knowledge through hard work to achieve salvation. if you are convicted about doing something from God and you do it, you can be assured He will close the door on it.

I understand your point. I think to the thread starter, he combined both believing and doing as part of faith. That allows him to have the opinion that it has always been faith alone that saves even in the OT.

For others like yourself and me, we distinguish between them. Faith is believing God, works is what you do after you believe God.

Noah not only had to believe God that there would be a flood, he also had to build the ark after he believed God. If he believed God that there will be a flood, but choose not to build an ark, he would have perished like the rest.

No doubt the ark is suppose to represent Jesus but it does not mean Noah can say like us now, "I believe in Jesus for my salvation and cease from my works". If he adopt that view, he would still have perished like everyone else.

Likewise for all the Jews in the OT, they have to get circumcised, they have to bring the lamb every time they sinned, to get saved in the end. All these are considered works, even though we now know that the lamb represents Jesus. That still will not excuse them from those works if they want to be saved.

It’s clear to me Noah had to do the work for him and his family’s salvation, like you said if he sat back and didn’t take it seriously him and his family would have drowned as well.

Noah's faith is what saved him based upon Gods grace....and his faith was not in the ARK, it was in the message and belief that GOD was going to flood the world and like normal...you are conflating the preservation of his PHYSICAL LIFE with SPIRITUAL SALVATION.......there will be many that will not make the final cut because of conflating truths into that which the bible does not support.

Yes, I thank God for this marvelous mystery, the grace dispensation that he revealed to Paul for us Gentiles now. That we can be saved by faith alone in Christ's death burial and resurrection, apart from works, unlike what all the OT people had to do previously.

And that work of Jesus Christ for us was so much more powerful than anything those works could have done for them. Jesus's work satisfy God so much until God promised never to impute sin to us. Now I understand better why King David envied us so much in Romans 4. :)

So if a Jew during the ot rejected circumcision and refused to sacrifice animals every time he sinned, and just say “I put my faith in God/Jesus”, will he be saved spiritually?

There are times in the Word when God's prophets prophesy in the past tense of a verb……….. I have been told this is to emphasize the event is certain, just as when our Father repeats an event will come about. The tenses of verbs and other parts of speech are not in stone for our Father. His ways are not our ways to be delineated by the fleshy minds ofmen caught up in their own intelligence, and tnot the knowledge from our Father.

Sounds to me like some folks need to read the book of Hebrews.
