I am now an assistant coach for a group of girls between the grades 6-8. I am more of a substitute as it is a husband and wife team doing the bulk of the coaching for the A, B and C teams. I am just filling in the blanks, so to speak. I tell you what, though, it is so fun and rewarding, but also challenging.

My skill sets in the way of volleyball and leadership are definitely requiring patience from the head coach. My learning curve in both areas are quite rusty.

Finding the balance between having fun but not chaos requires consistency and boundaries. If just a couple of the young gals refuses to listen, or insists on their own way, disruption runs a muck.

This morning, I started reflecting on the body of Christ as a team. Christ is the head coach and the Holy Spirit the assistant coach, both are One working to guide, instruct and help each team member and the team as a whole.

The team members are not without accountability; they need to show up, ready to work, well nourished and hydrated, all while sporting cheerfulness and an eagerness to co-operate a team.

Team activities are really a blessing, in that they teach us that it isn't all about ourselves. We each matter individually, but together even more so.

As members of the blood bought family of God, we are a community. We are not just alone with Jesus in our walks. We have been given one another, to love one another, to care for and help each other. Don't you agree that we ought to be cognizant of the team component as to not take our focus off the end goal as a community, pointing to Our Leader in all that we do, think and say?

Oh interesting!

How old are grades 6-8

Just a thought I wonder what you will make of those with less honour 🙂

1 Corinthians 12:22-24 NLT
[22] In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. [23] And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, [24] while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.

Very good question, though I am not sure what you are asking. You mean how will I deal with the less skilled, the ones more newer to the team. Or how do we deal with one another in the family in Christ.

I love that verse. I suppose with all we consider them more important and serve them accordingly, as much as we can. Your aunt for example requires more honor and care, at this more humbling stage of her life, right?

Btw...the girls are 11-14. I work more with the B and C teams which consists of about 12 girls. Many of them have never played before.

God bless you. Whatever you do, do it with the love of God.
Having been a youth leader for years, I am sure you will
never regret this opportunity. :D

Those children will always refer back to the "leaders" with admiration, perhaps not immediately but as time goes by. Just as we realize how our parents ere truly good and wise. All love in Jesus, Yeshua, j.
