Numbers 6 is packed with a message of blessing…

Have you ever listened to worship music and thought... I don't like it. Have you ever gone to church and thought…. these people are not nice enough. Have you ever served and thought…this isn't as gratifying as I'd hoped it would be.

I remember one time I went to serve at a food bank and instead of given the duty and honor of working one on one with the ppl, my chores included stocking and separating food. My thoughts were...dang it this isn't as fun as I'd hoped. I can not count the times that I went to bed focusing on my to do list and woke up stressed because I didn't want to get up and get to getting. For whatever reason, it all feels too daunting sometimes.

We see though in Numbers the importance of consecrating our lives to God, not for the purpose of blessing our lives, but for the purpose of honoring and blessing our Lord and that which belongs to Him.

I don't know about you, but that notion puts a fire under my hiney bo, driving my desire to not only get things done but to be grateful for the opportunity to get to serve our Lord. I so often come from a place of...I have to do this and that, but with Him in our hearts, it takes that obligatory attitude of have to and renews our minds into a grateful spirit of I get to.

To all those who serve the Lord to bless Him rather than merely to be blessed by Him, you inspire my faith. I yearn to be more and more like that...

I do believe, though, when our motives are in the right place, He does bless us so much...

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24‭-‬26 ESV

I just want to be serving and worshipping completely for Him, not for what is in it for me.

I'm not in it either for myself as far as rewards in heaven or even on earth but to only humbly serve the Lord. "Well done good and faithful servant" would be the greatest reward that I could ever hope for. Yes, I'm all in too. Numbers 6:24-26 is comforting. The talking donkey must be coming up soon and that will be amusing, sorta like Mr. Ed. He was a horse of course.

I am encouraged. Yes, can you even imagine how awesome it will be to hear well done good and faithful servant? Do you and your wife have a fav old testament book? It would be hard to pick for me.

My favorite OT book is the Song of Solomon. Not sure if my wife has a favorite but she always finds a reading of Jonah to be most amusing. God tells him to go one way and he goes in the opposite direction. Then gets mad at God for making his little plant that provided shade to wither and die. I guess that some guys learn the hard way, myself included.

Whatever we do, we should do it with the love of God.
If we volunteer work, let's do what is necessary to be done.
We do what we do not for pride but for God and not to be
repaid but open our hearts to future opportunity.

Yes, may we always have our hands and hearts open for service to Him.
